Touhou Panel at Sakura-con Status Update

Didn't get as much work done on it as I wanted to over the last two weeks due to my university work getting in the way far too much on the days I wanted to get stuff done on it. At this rate, I'll probably have it finished by the time Spring Break rolls around, which is undesired since it only leaves a month to get the editing process done, but oh well.

I said two weeks ago, I'd show you what it looks like right now, and even though it still is in a very rough stage of its development, and looks like total ass in this format (even cutting some stuff out) due to how google documents handles slideshows compared to powerpoint where it looks a lot better, here you go.

By the end, the sections on the games are going to be completely overhauled and replaced by gameplay videos to highlight what is actually being said about the games since they will show off the changes much better than lone screenshots ever could and screenshots never do Touhou justice besides making people go "HOLY CRAP, THAT'S A LOT OF BULLETS!".

I still have to finish up the Character section, I'm thinking the ones I'll go with are Reimu, Marisa, Sakuya, Yukari, and possibly Aya. I may also go for an entirely different method and look over the various areas in the Touhou-verse and highlight the characters within them with special focus put towards the main ones.

After that, all that really remains is the art, music, and doujinshi (Everything fanmade will go here) and then finally the editing process can begin and it will look a lot better.

Like I said, I'll be replacing all of those screenshots with actual videos soon enough and all the text will be replaced by speakers notes detailing what to say with the videos. That and a lot of those screenshots suck immensely because I took them on my laptop, which requires me to press an extra key than normal in order to take a screenshot which resulted in me doing pretty badly in a lot of them. Hell, a few of them are right before or as I am dying.

The naysayers in /jp/ forget that simply by making a panel at the highly attended SakuraCon that has "flashiness" and "action" on the screen, it will be attended.

And as for people having a bad time, all the con-goers know that catcalling /jp/ style will get you booted out of the con for the day, thus wasting your money and badge. So, the attendees will be for the most part good attendees.

Thus, I predict "success" for Bastille at SakuraCon. And if he does it well, he will have a "lock" for doing the updated Touhou panel next year as well. So, in some ways, he can be famous as the Touhou guy (at least until AnimeExpo). And if the panel at AX doesn't promote any one person, and Bastille promotes himself, then he may end up as the only "remembered" person. Particularly if he shows up at AX and runs a Touhou game party at AX's games.

So, will it be Touhou the /jp/ way? Or Touhou the Bastille way? I predict the Bastille way, particularly if he makes an introductory set of videos (longer versions of the videos in his presentation). The CDR of those should find a wide distribution. Just make like 50 of them to take to the panel and distribute one to each person who seems to like the things. And have them pre-loaded to MU, MF, and RS. The actual URLs can then be released at the panel. By having a combo distro like that, Bastille can create some excitement that can help his presentation be remembered as one of the better panels at SakuraCon.

If you have an assistant, you can have her/him pass out the video discs. Chances are s/he will remember which faces already got a disc whereas you will be busy talking to others or chatting people up (like /jp/ people who came and grudgingly admitted they enjoyed your panel).

I won't be the only person presenting this, nor will I be the main person presenting this. The majority of the work I'll be putting into this is going to be the presentation while I let my friends who are much more harismatic and capable of speaking to a large audience handle it, though I still will do some of the talking. I'll be more active during the second half when the gaming comes into play.

As for distributing all that stuff, eh... It's an interesting idea, but far too time consuming. If there is time, and it actually looks like a smart thing to do, I might consider it, but for now, getting the panel done is the only thing I'm looking at.

I go to a lot of cons. Mostly for drinking, and to see people from across the state I don't get to see nearly often enough. Cons weren't so bad when I first started attending so many years ago, but now, most attendees are shitheads. I've seen firsthand the quality of the fanbase drop as popularity increased.

Maybe some intelligent people will find your panel interesting and start playing the games, but most people at the con will spew out giant heaps of shit if your panel catches their short spastic attention.
