Wow I read it a few times and still missed that. Usually I'm bugged by even small errors.

Still, fan translations are overall much better than commercial VN translations, sadly enough. I'm playing Ever17 and the number of errors for a professional translation is fucking embarrassing.

Yeah, it's kind of funny. I guess having no deadline and no budget problems is one of the advantages of fan translations. If they want, they can spend as much time as they like polishing up their work.

One thing I found really annoying in Heaven's Feel was all the similes to "A puppet with its strings cut".

"Sakura fell to the ground like a puppet with its strings cut."

"I collapsed like a puppet with its strings cut."

"She felt like a puppet with its strings cut."

Fuck Nasu, we get it, Sakura's a puppet, use another metaphor.

That was a decent simile at first, but it did get irritating.

The worst one I remember (though I'm sure there were more than a few of them) was when Shirou compared Lancer or Archer or whoever to old yogurt.

>> No.2086042

>>2086020
Given Seung Park's fanatical advocation of liberal translation, I'd assume that Mirror Moon's is more accurate.

>> No.2086056

Hey fags, be grateful to MM for translating this, there's far worse localizations out there, including COMMERCIAL localizations.
I think they did well for such a large game, and it would be uncomparably superior to what you would get from reading shitty chinese to english translations or using ATLAS to play the game.
Their work is not without faults, but they can always release a new bugfix version to the patch once they find enough errors in it, and if peopel keep reporting them.

If I recall correctly, the old yogurt simile was referring to how whoever it was who was fighting wasn't as good as Saber at fighting, hence he was "like old yogurt" or something. I don't remember anything like that in the Iliad. But then it's been a while since I read it.

>> No.2086096

>>2086061

I just thought it was a Japanese term, that could only be understood in the cultural context.

Really, this nitpicking about translation is retarded. The only thing that really matters to me is that it's comprehensible. In my run through the game I never noticed the "I my", nor the logical error Kotomine, but I understood what they were trying to say. Only when you completely remove the image from context and examine every word in the sentence do you find errors like these, and none of them are catastrophic enough to make the sentence impossible to understand.
