>Something I never got about buyfaging in general because congrats, you're a consumer?

I think it has a lot to do with the difference between buying something you want to have; and buying something you want to impress other people with. To use the sports car anaology; you might buy a BMW because you like the way they look, and are comfortable and have the accessories you want. You get in it and drive away. But someone else will make sure everyone on their facebook feed knows they've just bought a BMW because they're buying it to impress the people around them, rather than because they wanted it themselves.

Most of us here (and /a/'s buyfag community too) buy what we want to have, not what we want to impress others with, so this seems the norm to us. If you want a taste of the other side, go visit mfc.

Unboxing posts and those preorder bingo posts are about as close as we get to normalfag consumerism. Luckily the vitrue of being anonymous negates a majority of it. I don't think /a/ or /jp/'s buyfag threads have any active tripfags. They're all on mfc now.

There's nothing wrong with posting a picture of something you've just bought if it's for critique (either positive or negative) and/or to appreciate the item itself. It's posting just to show others that you've bought the item that is frowned upon - It can be a bit nuanced at times but if you've got a facebook account you've probably seen the latter at least once. Someone who's bought a car or jewelry nearly beyond their means just to show it off rather than enjoy it themselves.

It's one part of why /jp/ is probably one of the best places to share the doll hobby with - the format and culture repulse the status buyers.

>>20814034

Ringdoll is resin right? You may have better luck over at /toy/'s doll thread. They are more resin-focused. It's not that we hate resin BJDs, it's just most of us have vinyl dolls.

That's still such an odd reason. Even if it went to someone within Japan, there's no promise that the buyer would post the doll online or take them out or anything.

I'm curious though, can we start posting which people aren't selling to proxies? It seems to be getting more common. I just don't want to get my hopes up for sellers who won't sell cute dolls to me.

I've bought from Lansy and CocoDoll with Zenmarket with no issue, at least.

>> No.20817271

>>20817209
I think this one is a special case. They made twin dolls and put one of them on auction and kept the other one, so they were afraid for them to be "seperated forever", I guess (which wouldn't be true, I would've loved to send them pictures). But you're right, even within japan there's no guarantee the buyer even has social media. But the vinyl doll community seems more tight-knit there, so the possibility they'll see them again might be higher.

I think going through their seller feedback and looking for clear SS accounts is a good hint if they accept them or not.

I would LOVE to have a Kantai Collection Shimakaze doll. But the only option for now is pic related. I find it very.... lacking.

There's lots of third party companies who create thing that are blatantly "character X" without clearly naming it. It's prevalent in the Transformers universe aplenty. But is there a 3P company that specialise in costume-n-wig sets only?
Because having a Dollfie Dream Sister "cosplaying" as Shimakaze would be very awesome.

Anons I got some questions.
I'm new to dolls and little paranoid about stains so I finally bought body suit and silicone cap for wig.
I undressed my girl completely and put her back in the box every time I finished playing with her, but this is sometimes pain in the butt, like when I know I will play with her next day but I still need to undress her for the night, and then dress her again after I wake up.
Now that I have this suit I might be little more bold about leaving her for not that long periods of time clothed.
But this leaves me with question: Could this a bit vanilly coloured suit stain my doll if I leave her in it for longer periods of time? (like months?) As you can see on the picture my doll skin colour doesn't perfectly match with suit.
And the same question goes for cap. Could silicone cap hurt my girl if I leaved her in it for long time? If not I don't see point in ever taking it off.

ps. I really do prefer my girl without the suit though. Visible doll joints are cute!

the silicon cap won't protect from staining from wigs. If you're using it to stop a wig from slipping it should be okay. I'm pretty sure that bodysuit won't stain your doll since that kind of fabric is usually synthetic and not dyed much, also any color change it could possibly cause (unlikely) will be unnoticeable. As long as the cap isn't super tight it won't hurt her. Also you can probably just leave lighter coloured clothes on her for a while without many problems especially with the suit on

This is true. If you want to be protected from wig cap stains then you need a white/natural colored cloth wig cap, I usually put one on top of the silicone cap if needed. As to your body suit question, I've never had one of those stain after many months of continuous usage.

Before you go crazy buying more stuff just remember headcap stains are hidden by wigs. If you're not super OCD you can just leave it. If you are though, kindly disregard.

And white will not stain ever. It'll either be a synthetic plastic or an undyed fabric so it's 100% safe in all cases with one exception, and that's if you somehow manage to find something that's been painted white.

Mine spend months at a time in white and pink clothing without issue.

It all depend on clothes, really. My DDS Kagamine come with clothes that are doubled with white fabric. So I don't fear staining. I wonder if that's a recent thing? Because if all clothes have a white layer underneath, especially for dark clothes, it will fix a lot of problems.

That's pretty random.
Someone with sewing tallent could add the double white layer themselves if possible. Unfortunately, for things like black socks and leggings, this would be impossible. But big velvet dresses and things like that? Possible. But more simple to put on some underwear like a thin white dress.

Or marinate the damn clothes in salt and vinegar.

Just as a conversation point: Why is there such a big stigma around collecting dolls, while anime figures have none of it? Even in the anime community they're looked down on, while figs are almost praised. Please help me understand.

>> No.20866742

>>20866701
Because while collecting figures and toys related to anime is mostly normalized (in japan) and tolerated in the west as merchandise related to your interests and something mostly associated with males (assuming we're just talking about normal figs and not lewd one anyways), dolls still seem to be something that is associated purely with females and is a feminine point of interest and seeing men play with "toys" like that is looked down upon? At least, that's what it seems like.

>> No.20866824

>>20866701
Because dolls are primarily played with by young girls and adult men are not supposed to enjoy the same things as them. There's also the big difference of merchandising; most toys are of existing properties and sell because people want a physical representation of them. Dolls are not and anyone who really gets into them prides themselves on the uniqueness of their individual dolls. Even the licensed DDs and Azones usually barely resemble the characters they are supposed to be outside of their outfits and most people just seem to buy them because they have a cute face and dress them up differently/change wigs until they're unrecognizable.

For women, it's not a big deal, it's seen as a quirk, some people think it's creepy and age inappropriate but nothing serious or bizarre. For men, it's seen as age AND gender inappropriate as it's seen as feminine and childish. Immature men in most western countries are viewed as sad at best, and dangerous at worst, add in the gender wrong, and the thoughts of pedos and queers start flying around. Thus the stigma.

Clothing with high collars and also lowering her chin a little bit will go a long way to help.

Does her head come off easily? If not it's possible the female connector in the head is stuck on the male connector in the neck and won't budge to go all the way in.

Obitsu do have long necks that need flattering angles for photography, but even considering that yours doesn't seem quite right. I don't intend to make fun of your doll or say it's bad quality or ugly - but you need to be aware these are assembled by a guy on a production line and it's possible something isn't quite right.

Can you take some photos of the neck and head pin and sockets? No need to set up the dlsr and lightbox, I just want to see them. I have 5 of the damn things, and a headless corpse to play with too.

...also be advised semen will destroy a faceup if allowed to dry.

Thanks, I don't usually have her in a shirt only. I usually have her wearing a coat or hoodie so that bunches up around the back of the neck which helps a lot with the neck length.

>Does her head come off easily?
You actually made me try again. I swear I tried taking off her head when I first got her and it didn't want to come off but it came off super easy this time. I think a mixture of things you suggested helped but the neck fits better into her head now and I think it looks less odd.
