2080035 No.2080035 [Reply] [Original]

So Yuyuko's hair apparently lightened up a good deal in comparison to when she was alive.

Mokou's hair was dark before she drank the Hourai Elixir.

Eirin is a Lunarian.

Keine is a were-hakutaku.

Youmu is a half-phantom half-human.

So what happened with Sakuya's hair?

FREE INTERPRETATION TIME!

I just like to think that messing with time caused her hair to go like that. I don't have much of a basis though, unfortunately, other than it seems relatively reasonable. But I also like to think that Sakuya's been around for quite some time. Once the mansion got plopped into Gensokyo, her powers got stronger, simply because of the magical nature of Gensokyo. This allowed her to keep herself looking young, while still being mortal.

You're not alone in that. That seems to be one of the more common ideas.

I always imagined that Remilia beat Sakuya down so badly the first time they met, that Remilia took Sakuya to Patchouli to fix her up. Patchouli used the only piece of the Philosopher's stone in Gensokyo to create the sought after Elixir of Life. She forced Sakuya to drink it. However, unlike the Hourai Elixir, which immortalized the soul, the Elixir of Life immortalized the physical body only. The hair turned white as a side effect.

That makes no sense. Hair is apart of the body, and if after drinking the Elixir of Life immortalizes your body in the state it was in at the time you drank it, her hair would already have to be white before she drank it.

>>2080194
>Elixir of Life immortalizes your body in the state it was in at the time you drank it,
It depends on how you interpret that. Maybe he means that the body simply won't die from most wounds or illnesses. Maybe it would just make Sakuya age infinitely. of course, that's no the case, seeing that she looks pretty young, but just tossing out examples.

>>2080171
Is vague as shit, but it's still an interesting concept nonetheless. I suppose you could half-ass an excuse, saying that the hair isn't as attached to the body or whatever, so it doesn't receive the full benefits of the elixir, but that just seems like a cop out.

So it's just one of the side-effects of drinking the Elixir? Now THAT'S a cop-out. Come on, now. I'm sure you could think of a better explanation while still maintaining some of your original ideas.

It was also a theory from Akyu. I always take her stuff as being relatively accurate, but for more "mysterious" characters, like the Lunarians and Sakuya, she could be completely wrong, as her statements are from the point of view of another human in the human village.

1. Who say's Sakuya was a vampire hunter? That's just one of many theories.

2. It's fucking Flandre, even Duke Nukem would probably pee his pants a little.

That, plus as far as I'm concerned, Sakuya is just a normal girl with an extraordinary power, who's no older than she looks, and was raised by the Scarlet household.

I don't think that's a good excuse, that she has asthma, especially if she's had it since birth. That's completely different from healing simple cuts or bruises, however severe, since it's just rehealing tissue, and not necessarily genetically influenced. How else do you think she got so good at elemental magic? She learned it out of books and practiced it on her own. Why wouldn't she be at least a little bit interested in healing magic? It would be handy, after all, if she cut herself by accident or something.

>> No.2080424

There have been several clues spread across the Touhou series that suggest that Sakuya may not actually be human. Most of these occur in Imperishable Night, where Eirin Yagokoro is surprised to see her (according to ZUN). In another scene, she survives staring at the full moon (which should drive humans insane, even though Marisa, Youmu and Reimu survive staring at it as well...). She has silver hair just like Eirin, and uses silver knives, both the color and metal silver representing the moon in many contexts. In Perfect Memento, Hieda no Akyu agrees that Sakuya probably does not come from Gensokyo, and the description of Kaguya Houraisan's powers are quite similar to Sakuya's time manipulation. These all seem to point to the possibility that Sakuya may in fact be Lunarian. (Some doujin artists have attempted to explain the relationship between Eirin and Sakuya in their stories. These range from the ideas that Eirin created Sakuya's Lunar Dial, but prolonged usage erased Sakuya's memory, to the two of them even being sisters.)

:)

How bout the idea that nothing happened and that it was the same color before, now, and forever?

>> No.2080452

>>2080422
Dunno, bro. I always saw her as a hardcore elemental magician with heavy emphasis on conjuration and offensive stuff. Just seems to me like it fits her taciturn personality better. She may learn healing for the sake of pursuing knowledge, but the elements separate from the flesh is where I see her thriving.

Nevertheless, it's still pretty neat that we've got different ideas about Patchouli. It never really crossed my mind that she'd do much, if any healing magic at all, and I never really considered her as being a perfect magician.

Sakuya's eyes turning blue instead of red are an obscure reference to relativistic doppler effect. Within the SDM, where Sakuya is messing around with time and space, her eyes appear redshifted since her powers are observed from the outside (since she is extending both time and space, she appears to be constantly travelling away). In later games her powers are viewed from within her sphere of influence, where time and space appear contracted to an observer, and thus her eyes are blueshifted instead.
Flan also has a reference to this phenomenon (Starbow Break).

... no, actually I just made that up. I'm probably even wrong about how doppler effect works. There is no real reason for the colour change, it's just an inconsistency.
