I'm obviously talking about the anime. Second season was a lot more rushed than the first one, even though it had the same amount of episodes and covered only three arcs (the one not featured in the VN and the two last).
I also didn't like how they handled the whole emo Rika thing in just one episode. Neither how they turned Rika's death in Minagoroshi-hen in a Carebears episode (it just became too sweet). And neither how they turned the resistance against Yamainu in Matsubarayashi-hen in a Home Alone movie.
In short, I though the VNs were way better and deserved a better adaptation.
Still have to play Miotsukushi-hen though. I heard it is a much better ending.

>>2063140
I just love all the Touhou series shooters, even the PC-98 ones. If I had to pick one though, I would choose PCB because of the variety (two different bombs and two different shots for each one of the 6 character types), the difficulty (first game of the series you can *easily* get the graze counter up to 1000 in one single stage) and two extra stages.
But guess what, opinions...

A series that is neither too happy nor sad, and does not waste time with unneccary backstory, yet still creates a world that feels deep. It may not be to the taste of some, but in artistic terms its near flawless.

If you didn't say Ocarina of Time is your favorite game you're an idiot. Ocarina of Time was revolutionary for its time. It was the first 3D action, adventure, RPG, and puzzle-game. Its story was reminiscent of Hayao Miyazaki's masterpiece -- Princess Mononoke.

Yes there have been games mentioned in this thread that are better than Zelda. But to fairly judge a game you have to judge it in the context of its release date. When Ocarina of Time debuted on the N64, no game on any console was even close to its level of innovation and complexity. It's no wonder why every video game magazine worth its salt, declared it game of the year and/or greatest game of all time during its release.

Now compare that to other games like Chrono Trigger that leeched off the innovation of the RPGs that came before it. Zelda has always been in its own league, when it comes to innovation. Even when the first Zelda came out, it was innovating the industry. Zelda was the first game that used saves. It was also the first game that allowed the player to explore. Before Zelda all games were brainless button mashers like Space Invaders, Tetris, and Pacman (where the only objective was to beat someone's highscore). Zelda was so unique that video gamers of the time didn't know what to do with it. For the first time ever there was a game that required you to think and explore. It was a video game that made you forget you were playing a "game."

I just like the whole feel of it. I was saying to someone earlier how it has a distinctive ambience of cosyness which is why, although I think it's objectively good, I hazard to say it's amazing or anything, because for me personally it's that personal ambient touch I garner from it that places itself at the top.

Though that has a lot to do with the art style, which is an objective standard in itself I guess.

Yes, and no. Mostly no, though. FF7 still earns my respect though, because it pulled in a whole new generation of normal bros to video games. This then resulted in more games getting translated.

Before, jRPGs were a super niche thing (in the Western fandom) and only the most hardcore game geeks bothered to play them.

Also keep in mind that FF7's story was so complex lots of people STILL dont get it to this day. Granted you can call that convoluted plot but all the loose ends are tied up more or less if you dig deep enough.

>I did play OoT on that once or twice admittedly. I've never understood the appeal in Zelda games, there are better 3d action/adventure games out there.
Name one that's better than Zelda. When Zelda came out it was in a genre of its own. Protip: Zelda pioneered the 3D action/adeventure genre.
>JRPGs are als far more involving in general.
Yeah, if you enjoy reading and grinding. Just compare Zelda to Final Fantasy 7. In FF7 you were limited to 2.5D (pre-rendered environments) While in Zelda you had the full 3D freedom. My memory is not so good, but wasn't Zelda the first 3D action/adventure game? In comparison of music and story, FF7 wins. Now lets compare their gameplay. Final Fantasy had the traditional walk-and-talk gameplay of most RPGs of its time. Zelda however allowed you to interact with your environment. It also invented "Z targeting" a battle system gimmick that was emulated by all action/adventure games that followed it.

Both games were good in their own ways, but in the end I'm going to have to give this one to Ocarina of Time. I'm a novice programmer yet I can code a game like FF7 with ease. Programming a game like Zelda on the other hand is still beyond my skill level.

Drop what you're doing and play Ocarina of Time. This time complete the game from start to finish. You're too used to pick up and play games (where all you do is talk to people and mash a button). One more thing, you do know that Ocarina of Time is one of (if not) the highest rated game of all time? I recall reading one magazine in Japan that did a vote for the greatest game of all time and 2M of them said Zelda. The only other game the Japs prefer over Zelda is Dragon Quest. FF7 wasn't even in the top 30.

>> No.2065608

I've never understood how FF7's plot is supposed to be so difficult to understand; granted, I was an adult by the time I finally played it. Plus I like stuff such as Chrono Cross, Xenogears, and Xenosaga (the first two of which I played *before* FF7)... so yeah

From wiki:

>Ocarina of Time was released to universal critical acclaim and commercial success. It was the best-selling game of 1998, selling 2.5 million copies despite being released only 39 days before the end of the year. During its lifetime, it sold 7.6 million copies worldwide. Upon its initial N64 release, Ocarina of Time received perfect review scores from gaming publications such as Famitsu, Edge, Electronic Gaming Monthly, GameSpot, and IGN. Over ten years after its release, review aggregators Game Rankings and Metacritic both rank it as the best scoring game ever reviewed. The reviews praised multiple aspects of the game, particularly its level design, gameplay mechanics and sound. GameSpot's Jeff Gerstmann wrote that Ocarina of Time is "a game that can't be called anything other than flawless", and IGN called it "the new benchmark for interactive entertainment" that could "shape the action RPG genre for years to come". After publication, Ocarina of Time was featured on a number of compiled lists of best or most influential games, including those of Electronic Gaming Monthly, IGN, Nintendo Power. GameTrailers' editors called it a "walking patent office" due to the number of features that became "industry standard".

tl;dr Zelda is the international "highest rated game of all time."
