>I am the bone of my sword
>Steel is my body and fire is my blood
>I have created over a thousand blades
This is all 100% fine and sounds natural.
>Unknown to Death,
>Nor known to Life.
This is the first major grammatical problem. You cannot use 'nor' without 'neither.' To use 'nor' in this context, you would have to rephrase this as, "I am neither known to death nor known to life."
>Have withstood pain to create many weapons
There's no subject in this sentence (which is common when Japanese people try to English). It works informally, but doesn't really sound natural.
>Yet, those hands will never hold anything
>So as I pray, Unlimited Blade Works.
This is fine except 'those hands.' I would have said, "these hands of mine."

>> No.20629153

>>20628865
I think in poetry you can take some licenses in language and alter grammar to get a better rhythm going on though.

>Unknown to Death,
>Nor known to Life.
That is true in this part, as it's kept in 4-syllabe in both lines.

>Have withstood pain to create many weapons
>Yet, those hands will never hold anything
And in this case, it's both lines being 10-syllabe long.

>> No.20629163

Sincere answer, "I am the bone of my sword" is the only one that is a flimsy sentence. Swords do not have bones, and "bone" does not resonate as a feature to grant to swords. Many words could work there, like heart, or soul, or core, but bone doesn't work.
It's not grammatically wrong, but in english terms it just doesn't hold symbolism on its own and ends up sounding silly.

A boy a.k.a Voyager: The final servant was summoned without master until makes contract with Utsumi Erice. From Fate/Requiem's description of the story, the shinigami (God of Death) refers to Voyager and Erice as "Servant of The Killer"

Caren Fujimura: An adoptive daughter of Fujimura family, a mythology gag of Fate/Hollow Ataraxia's mini game "Capsule Servant" where Taiga and Shirou adopt her at the end of the game. She builds Caren Series with four artificial intelligence to supervise Akihabara and takes responsible as Erice's Teacher.

https://i.imgur.com/sziIhFG.jpg (embed)

Galahad Alter: I got few information about this guy unfortunately (Perhaps this character is a walking spoiler to begin with). A Saber servant was summoned by Koharu F. Leiden Frosts (コハル・F・ライデンフロース), a homunculus and possesses Demi-Servant ability that is similar to Rin Tohsaka and Rani VIII from Fate/Extra Last Encore. The relationship of Galahad Alter and Koharu is just like Rin and Emiya from Fate/stay Night. Galahad's personality is just like his father being womanizer but more with Emiya's snarky attitude. There's an illustration of Koharu got teased then embarrassed because of him. There's a scene of where Galahad bride carries Koharu, similar to iconic scene of Emiya bride carries Rin. They are MVP of Akihabara in Holy Grail Tournament, they have fought many times and unbeatable before the prologue chapter.

https://i.imgur.com/K9edOT1.jpg (embed)

Longinus: A Lancer servant was summoned by Manazuru Chitose (真鶴チトセ), who is Utsumi Erice's grandmother due non-aging magic caused by Fate/Requiem's post war and Holy Grail's side effect. From illustration page, you notice there's a pirate from behind them, they're fight against pirate servants and Zombie Hannibal

Kijyo Koyo: A Berserker servant was summoned by Karin. Apparently Kijyo has connection with Tohno clan from Tsukihime due they have the blood of oni, which Makihisa Tohno, Shiki Tohno and Akiha Tohno possess of this curse. Karin's full name isn't revealed yet.

Kundry: A female Rider servant comes from Parsifal. Responsible for the outbreak due she finds her love ones when sees Flying Dutchman. Interesting enough that she can summon demons and uses projection, which contradicts to her servant class while she looks like your typical crazy Caster servant. From the colour illustration page, Erice was pierced by Kundry's projectile

Hendrik van der Decken: A Rider servant possesses Noble Phantasm Flying Dutchman. Responsible for taking a job as navigator from Akihabara.

Hannibal Barca: His class is unknown, but implies he was summoned as Rider servant, as he can summon giant war elephant. He is supposedly a member of Koharu's camp. He was killed then resurrected as a traditional of "Voodoo Zombie" by Nzambi. He is one of antagonist servants of the first volume

El Cid: His class is unknown, but implies he was summoned as Saber servant. He possesses flaming sword (They say it's Tizona, a firebrand sword).

Nzambi: Class is unknown. Nzambi is a main antagonist as a serial killer who cuts anyone who has Command Spell then collect their hands as decoration. s the main responsible for the outbreak in Holy Grail Tournament. Possesses a black magic of resurrect a dead person by using voodoo and spread "Death". The reason Nzambi possesses this ability due "zombie" word comes from the origin of Nzambi's name Sounds like Vlad III Apocrypha has new best friend...

Cesare Borgia & Lucrezia Borgia: According to JPN readers, one of them is a servant and implies they're just like Sakamoto Ryouma & Oryou. Ambiguous confirmation about their appearance, they are very "youthful".

Lucius Tiberius from Fate/Prototype - Fragments of Sky Silver makes cameo appearance.

Francis Drake, (Neil) Armstrong, Leif Erikson, Erik The Red, Vasco da Gama, Ferdinand Magellan & Christopher Columbus got mentioned and have been summoned in Fate/Requiem's world. Drake and Columbus are same counterpart of Fate/Extra and FGO respectively. No confirmation for these new servants' class, it seems they are share group of Rider class alongside with Drake and Columbus.

Jacques de Molay, Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa, Hayreddin Barbarossa & unnamed heir of Matsuratou are mentioned. They are fighters participate in Holy Grail Tournament.

Minamoto Nokurou Yoshitsune. An adult incarnation of Ushiwakamaru, participates in Holy Grail Tournament. There is no confirmation of Yoshitsune's class and gender. Oh, Yoshitsune wearing full armor.

Euclid, he was summoned as Foreigner servant. He is a a commentator of Holy Grail Tournament alongside with Teach and Circe

Edward Teach, when he enters the tournament as a commentator, everyone yells BOO at him immediately. According from JPN readers, this Edward Teach's personality is different than his FGO counterpart.

Louis XVI, summoned as Avenger servant. His appearance can be described as "innocent child" just like his mother but as his class implies, expect this Louis is a bad news

Circe is same as her FGO counterpart, becomes a commentator of Holy Grail Tournament.

Two unnamed characters at the end of the volume, an elegant girl tags along with a black jackal (Implies Anubis).

Fate/Requiem's setting year: It's 2025.

According from various sources I've seen so far, some of them saying Fate/Requiem's world can be described as it's like Megaman X but as Fate series, while servants who cause outbreak are now more like labeled as "Maverick". I suppose servant co-exist with them is a huge risk after all.

It's probably just coincidence, but camrips of the second HF movie showing up have me wondering if there is someone or someones at TM who actually believe that the majority of people in the West will pirate if given the opportunity.

Off the top of my head, everything related to TM released in the West has been through someone else, so if piracy occurs it possibly bites the parter in the ass more than it does TM. This may also be why TM supposedly wanted a hefty fee to license the FSN VN in the West.

so, yeah, the only time you're going to get officially localized nasushit is when he's working with other companies that are involved in that sort of thing. anything where the main company (that is, TM themselves) have leverage i doubt you'll ever see an official localization for that material

i would say to just learn Japanese (easier said than done) and drown yourself in content, but honestly it's not like you're missing out on a whole lot. F/R does seem intriguing at least, i'll admit, but most of the stuff in recent times has been really fucking boring. though i suppose re-reading Tsuki/Fate without Takajun's horrible translation abilities is worth it alone, and, of course, reading Mahoyo and CCC. though, honestly, if you ask me, CCC is pretty overrated, much better than the first Extra though

Funny if this is true since he had no problem going to Hawaii recently and was jealous of the pictures taken of FGO cosplayers there by other TM employees since he was sick in bed.

From a quick glance, only a little over half of Hawaii's population is Asian, and of that group there are more Filipinos than Japanese. So I can't entirely believe Hawaii simply being a special case.

Just finished HF 2 and it was fucking awesome. I do think the first 20 minutes or so are a bit rushed, but man does it pay off in the rest of the film.
What's really commendable is just how WEIRD some scenes get, it has all that great stuff that was abundant in old Nasu, but you'd never see in modern TM shit. Sudo just shamelessly embraces it. And I think that's the essence of HF, characters from a more "idealistic" story, placed in a scenario where everything goes wrong, with a tone that harkens back to KnK and Tsukihime.
The best directed scene was probably Archer's death, that somehow exceeded the expectations I'd built over the years. Same for Gil's death. The one scene that was unfortunately sandbagged was Illya shopping, though I did like the original Taiga scene and how Illya is involved in it.
And as skeptical as I am of huge fights, the sheer scale and flashiness of Berserker vs Saber Alter was kind of mindblowing. Look forward to seeing it in high quality. And I'm happy to say they didn't ruin Saber with smugness like the 1st one.
I'm thinking this is a 9/10, lads. My favorite Fate animated thing so far, big improvement over presage flower. Pretty excited for the end of the trilogy.

What bummed me out during that project though was that any scene that took place inside which featured reverb on the vocals made it so getting clean sound was nearly impossible. That really, REALLY sucked for season two, cause a lot of it takes place in the Einzbern mansion.

iZotope is the tool I used. It's pretty good - it has some voice isolation assets but you have to be a bit careful with it since the algorithm still picks up a lot of music with it. For instance, it often misinterprets any wind instrument as a voice, and certain kinds of string sounds as voices too.

The best thing to do when either Music Rebalance or Dialogue Isolate fails is to use spectral repair, locate the voices on the spectrogram (this can either be easy or difficult, depending on how crowded the music is), and then chop them out with a medium strength. Takes a bit of learning but it's honestly quite simple.

This, for instance, doesn't do so well with the automatic algorithms.
https://my.mixtape.moe/eoznlx.flac
So we use spectral repair and can remove it manually:
https://my.mixtape.moe/tgkmix.flac

I usually use this to remove coughs from historical live recordings of opera (you wouldn't believe how much Italians cough) Of course, there is such a thing as going too far. Sometimes you can apply too much or other times it's impossible to remove without harming the music, and in those instances I would say to just let the non-musical elements stay.

Now you're making me want to see if I could try and do more polished takes. I've still got the original raw .wav files of the series' audio on my current hard drive. What I had before doing any fiddling. It might be worth taking another look at.

This thread also reminded me that I made basic transcriptions of some of the characters' themes.

Yup. Basically the same reason I got interested in audio editing. No one was going to fix up the recordings I wanted in the way I wanted them, so I had to it myself. Now it's kind of a personal hobby. iZotope is probably my favorite tool for this kind of editing out there. Another popular one is Adobe's Audition, but it's not quite as good.

Anyway, good luck. Always nice to talk about audio editing with someone else that does it - it's the kind of conversation I rarely get to have.

It's funny you mention Audition, that was one of the programs I messed around with when trying to rip the tracks! Didn't exactly get too far with it, but I tried, haha.

This project kind of took me on an entire odyssey. It got to the point of where I was so frustrated with not being able to get rid of the noise interference with certain tracks, that I tried to recreate them.

https://clyp.it/zoabcaew

I don't think I ever released this. It's a mock up of the track that plays in episode 0 of the show, when Kirei first leaves his message on Rin's answering machine. Listening to it now, I'm realizing it needs some reverb. Also, I probably have a better cello sample.

Unfortunately, it's quite likely to be more oversaturated Servant shit, with a self-insert protag again to appeal to the same audience. It's implied it's a phone apk (like the wording used is for mobage), that will have a different system (less grindy and less bloated than the mess of FGO apk which cannot be fixed unless they start over as a proof of their incompetence is another matter). That's why "FGO 2" trended when the interview came out, now we don't have the setting or the plot, or the name of this new phone apk but they got the implication is going to be a new game to fill that void. I'm just wondering if it'll be Extra because Nasu's obsessed with that shit setting. I hope not, between FGO and Extra, FGO at least makes the effort to be above SAO-tier shitty simulation setting and I hate Hakuno more than Guda. Guda is just barebones nobody who didn't even get a reward, he even gets shit on a lot in Lostbelts. Hakuno is a bland Gary Stu who gets fawned and made King of the Moon. He's just such a disgusting character in Extella I can't stand him. He's worse than Kirito.

Can you post the exact quote? Cause I don't think it is.
They do talk about FGO's flaws as a system that make it irredeemably a pile of dogshit from the start and will never be fixed, but that doesn't mean Nasu will just replace it with the "same thing, but better". I think(hope) he implied a much more drastic change.
I would be as uninterested in Gudashit as Hakuno, obviously I hate Guda more because they're awful from the start and belong to a game that was never remotely good (whereas Hakuno was alright in the first Extra, and their self-insert actually worked with the NPC twist, even if that's been ruined in further installments), but regardless, Extra mobage or FGO 2 would equally solidify my belief that TM will never produce anything good again.
However, if it is just another Fateshit mobage, I'd bet on a brand new MC, setting, and cast of characters.

Obviously not, they would continue that shit without Nasu (maybe even a new apk) because the vast majority doesn't give a fuck who writes any of their trash. But Nasu would move on to finally make a real game, or away from Fate. That's the ideal, anyway.

>> No.20655582

I have a shameful confession I really loved Solomon finale. It was pure Nasu's philosophy clashing that was amazing and extremely well written. Goetia is definitely up there in my Nasu antagonist list, only after Kohaku and Kotomine. I went from thinking he's boring in London to completely sympathize with his grief and his frustration; he combines power with vulnerability so convincingly. I have no idea why anyone would even care about Tiamat other than tits when I read Babylonia, but Goetia got me. Sugita's performance was also cherry on top of this. I want this animated for Sugita alone. I'm glad Jouji didn't voice him, I love him, but Sugita voice really suits Goetia.

My criticism is the difference of quality between the scenes with Mashu, Roman, Fou, Da Vinci, and Goetia and everything else in those cutscenes were so abysmal. The bloated cast felt more like puppets that were artificially playing a filler role (admittedly people attached to those Servants would probably feel good and hopeful over the battle), while the main cast breathed like coming to life. Even the self-insert actually felt more like a character briefly during the last battles. Maybe because there was some emotion? It's still a shame this finale wasn't in some other format. It felt like a such a good endgame for Nasuverse finale, someone threatening the life of all planet (thus all Nasuverse world building) from the beginning, but lacked an engaging protagonist.

Like every other interesting idea in FGO, I think Goetia is massively wasted in a shitty game. As you yourself admitted, most of that chapter is a trashy, shounen-tier "EVERYONE IS HERE TO FIGHT BY YOUR SIDE" schlock, which only brings to light how paper-thin one dimensional the entire cast of the game is, and served to remind me that I don't understand how people love any of those characters.
Roman is a genuinely good character even by old Nasu standards though, and Goetia is a pretty decent antagonist, I think both could've been great in a real Nasu work. But again, even if you choose to ignore most of the chapter where they are the spotlight, the garbage self-insert protag is still there dragging things down in all their best scenes (besides the Marisbilly flashback). And no, he doesn't display more character, only some really basic anger. His entire "character" up to this point in Lostbelt is "Mashu good, Roman good, fight for survival". And they also try to shove in some bullshit insecurities that don't really go anywhere. Either way it's pitiful compared to any of Nasu's real protags.
As always, I find myself disgusted that people defend an awful game for the few good ideas it has, instead of shitting on it for completely wasting those good ideas.

I was more addressing the line of argument that goes "It's never going to happen, just learn Japanese." That to me is defeatist because it suggests to just stick to one strategy and not pursue additional ones at the same time. Japanese can't be learned overnight, so there is no harm in at the same adding your voice to those calling for English translations.

Additionally, English translations would cut down on ignorance. I"m sure there are plenty of people who settle for adaptations of source material either because they find it too difficult to access the original or it's simply not available. The latter can be the most dangerous because it can give birth to summaries that can include the wrong information, which proceeds to spread.

Of course my second point assumes one doesn't want the correct information to be hoarded and doesn't care if larger discussions get dragged down due to ignorance.

I get frustrated sometimes about the medium, but the parts of the main cast were really well written. I didn't care about Mashu before (didn't hate her but she was there), but I loved her in this chapter. The protagonist was a blank, but at least was a non-meme spouting blank which was less annoying than before.

At this rate only Aniplex and Marvelous are going to bringing TM material, material Japan has to create. Last I checked, Japan doesn't need any help from the West to decide it wants to milk Fate for every last drop.

>Yours is the same deluded line of thinking that supporting FGO will somehow result in better products in the future, or any non-Fate shit.

I didn't said that you had to support FGO, merely that instead of just disliking it you could see it and its Western fanbase as a tool to be used. >>20657914

>nothing about any of the fan translations is inaccessible insofar as the acquisition goes

You underestimate the average person's ability to get things working. You also discount the people who drop material because fan translators may not understand the concept of an editor and think stilted text that isn't enjoyable to read is perfectly fine. Let's not even get into cases where the translator doesn't even speak English as their first language.

>people settle for adaptions because most don't wanf to read a 60 hr+ visual novel with dated visuals and music.

This is certainly part of it, but I do believe another part is the simple fact that one can't just go onto a website, a program like Steam, or the Apple/Google store, pay the price, and have the VN downloaded and ready to read with no problems. Instead they have to find a link somewhere, hope the download still works, and follow the directions correctly.

>secondaries and tertiaries will stay the same; content with reading small, badly made summaries from the TM wiki.

If the source material is more easily available, the possibility exists they may actually check it out after being told to do for the 100th time. Something like the wiki could also be more accurate once you have more people to work on it and its possible for them to actually cite their information.

>especially the English version, which is horribly translated

You mean overestimate, yes? And it isn't as if official translations are any better in regards to stilted text, i.e. poor editing. That doesn't really stop people from enjoying the officially translated content - you overestimate how many people care about translation quality. Protip: they don't. FGO has parts which are practically machine translated, especially in its first few months, and while I recall a few complaints on here and Twitter, for the most part, the masses didn't care.

Also, you're making going on nyaa and downloading a torrent or using any other link to be some sort of arduous task. The only difference between downloading a game on nyaa and on Steam is that one needs an account with money to spend for the latter. What directions are there? A lot of the uploads available are pre-installed. You have to be braindead thinking double-clicking on an .exe is particularly hard. And frankly if you're that stupid you can fuck right off the fanbase, we already have our fill of retards. We don't need anymore.

>and while I recall a few complaints on here and Twitter, for the most part, the masses didn't care.

They at least made enough noise that changes were made and I believe Orleans in particular was singled out. I wouldn't use FGO, either its earlier form or in general, as an example of people caring about translation for two reasons. The reason I wouldn't bring up early FGO is because both Orleans and Septem were panned before they were even officially translated as having weak writing, so not that many people may have cared. The second reason I would not use FGO as an indicator as to how much people care about translation quality is because there is seemingly a portion of the Western FGO fanbase who are content to still play a version of the game they can't understand and find out what happened later on via summaries. Personally I don't understand these people, outside of those who may be trying to learn Japanese or sunk cost.

Now I know the above may run contrary to my idea of using them to get translations, but perhaps I believe they can be convinced of the worth of translated source material or that they at least want it.

>Also, you're making going on nyaa and downloading a torrent or using any other link to be some sort of arduous task

I vaguely recall downloading a version of FSN from BL that required moving some folders around and renaming files. Certainly nothing hard, but I could easily imagine it being so for some people or others seeing that they have to do a few things and deciding not to bother.

You're kidding yourself if you think FGO is just the face of TM in the West. There was either a poll or it was said by Nasu himself that a majority of Japanese FGO players had never bothered with TM before.

In a way I don't really see the point of raging about it or Fate in general either. Even when Nasu stops writing for FGO, Fate is still probably going to be the go to thing for anyone who wants to make money and any content creator who finds it interesting. There is also no guarantee that Nasu is going to abandon it either, he could be finished with FGO and still have a new Fate related idea in mind, something he wants to do with Extra, or want to do another mobile game.

FGO has been massively popular with the West since it launched in the West. How long has it been now, two years? Nothing has changed yet and I doubt anything ever will. Why would popularity with a phone game, that most people don't care about the origins of - east or west - influence TM to start getting involved in the official localization of their own material? Sony doesn't call the shots with Nasu's original works. He's embarrassed of Tsukihime and would never let it be released officially in any other language, and it's almost the same for Fate, which he isn't wholly comfortable with either, especially the first route. Then you have Mahoyo, which Nasu doesn't even want to acknowledge exists and CCC which the train past by on long ago. Of those, CCC is the only one I can see *maybe* getting an English TL in the future and even that's a super small chance, they would have to port it of course since the PSP is a dead system. Everything else has already received or is going to receive official translations, except, of course, Nasu's more obscure, older works.

This is all a bunch of pointless conjecture anyway.
>DUDE maybe if FGO gets SUPER popular Nasu will release his other stuff with the West
But it's already super popular. Give it a few more years and you'll see how wrong you are when nothing happens.

What's the deal with F/R? The premise seems really weird, but some concepts are interesting (Lancer Longinus, Foreigner Euclid, Voyager).
Will it just get eventually absorbed by FGO or did the author express the intention to retain a certain degree of independence, like Narita with SF?

On a whim I decided to go watch the DEEN adaptation. I actually like the choreography in battles. The cut where Rider touches down and the one where Saber lands all those blows on her feels are really exciting.

The 2006 series is far less bad than people make it out to be. There's some genuine iffy animation and art though. The thing that bothers me the most is it's got that overly digital look that infested some shows in the 2000s, where characters sometimes just look like they're melting.

The UBW movie had some great designs however. Its main problem really was trying to fit the entire route into one film. I'll stand by that the first 15 minutes of it are genuinely great, with the Berserker fight being a highlight. It's right after that you can almost FEEL the director going "Ah, motherfucker. I've only got 100 minutes left." A real shame.

Yeah, UBW isn't really grimdark at all and it felt so off tone from the original in a lot of places. I mean, sure, there are dark elements to it, but Fate and UBW were examples of Nasu going away from his usual edgy flavor - hell, UBW is really fucking clowny in a lot of areas - which is one of the reasons UBW was so much more mainstream than, say, HF, which is closer to classic Nasu.

Now I actually prefer classic Nasu, but keep it where it belongs. IMO UBW adaption just went too far.

I'm the anon who did the project to rip UBW's unreleased music >>20654338, and the several months I spent doing that made me really appreciate the score.

I like Kawai's soundtrack, in particular his stuff for the UBW movie, but there's a lot in Fukasawa's work that really impressed me once I soaked it all in. There's 3-4 times more material in UBW compared to your standard anime. Most of the scenes have original pieces written for them, with very few reused tracks. Just about all the characters have themes and ideas to represent them, too. If you're a fan of operatic approaches to scoring, there's plenty of meat there.

I'll admit, I was a bit disappointed when I heard he wasn't coming back for Heaven's Feel. He even set up things like a motif for Sakura, which could easily be developed, and become a major identity, but since Sakura wasn't explored that much in the route, it was only basic, and didn't get too many statements.
