This is about the Earth Day. What does 有り体な言い方 mean here? I know 有り体に言えば, "frankly speaking", and I get that 有り体 is sorta "as is", but I don't get the meaning in this particular sentence. Is it like, "it may sound obvious"? Like, "it may sound obvious, and some may say the phrase 'be kind to the Earth' is just human ego, but we should worry about the planet sometimes".

I hate relearning things and anki cuts that back. I'll keep doing 20 new words per day for years because it only gets easier over time anyways as you repeat kanji and you already know a language. 30 minutes a day is a small price pay.

Time for a life lesson マイフレンド you should not "study" japanese. Think of japanese as a thing that is a hoby and through doing fun things you will get really good. There is no test you need to prepare for. If you go to japan, as long as you understand and produce correct japanese that is just as good as anything else. also if you go to japan, japanese is not an impressive skill, you should spend the time you spend "studying" japanese on another skill or knowledge base that makes you more well rounded and pleasant to be around. No matter how good your japanese is the content of your message is more important for getting people to like you.

It's not necessarily a bad thing especially for your brain. This is how you make your brain /fit.

Just remember the more you expose your brain to the language the better. I'm developing a method of just pure lingual stimulation involving constant audio books, because of the high quality words per minute. English is basically poison as is focusing too hard with your executive cognition. You have to relax and let your subconscious do it's thing and learn the patterns. This, breaks with other media, and anki for a month I'll let you know if it works as good as I think it is.

I have a question about English translations of Japanese text. Hitherto I have been mainly focused on Kanji recognition, meanings and readings, with the logic being that new words will take less time to remember if I have familiarity with the characters. I've made no attempt to translate anything but I can transcribe real Japanese pretty well with an IME (probably N2 Kanji and a little more). Sometimes I do try and translate sentences and it goes fucking miserably, like not even N5. I've stayed away from English translations because I feel like they're training wheels and sentences made for English translation are not the most representative of real Japanese (彼は...). I feel like I ought to be able to decipher meaning from the component pieces alone, but that hasn't gone well.
So for the self taught veterans here, when do you want to use English translations for comparison and when is it best to stop? Can I brute force grammar the way I'm doing with Kanji and figure out what sentences mean that way?
