Died from heart failure at the end of last year, just before winter Comiket, and news only came out now. The funeral proceedings were limited to close family members. While he wasn't slated to release anything on C95, it was still quite an unfortunate time. Ao's last release was an R-18 book featuring Renown from Azur Lane. His last touhou release was at C94, a 320 page compilation of his latest works + a bonus.

Sorry for all the Aozora Market fans out there. Let's all wish him happiness in the next life, and wish a long life to the artists we hold dear.

(If you're wondering why the announcement wasn't from his official twitter, well, you figure that out. Announcement was courtesy of two circles Ao was close with.)

This really sucks. I feel real bad for his close friends. Hisaka Toru of Strange Chameleon seems really broken up about it. A couple other artists as well (even ones that haven't been active for several years)...

I always loved his Marisa.

I loved his non-h Touhou doujins. It's a shame that I won't be seeing the new releases ever again.

Had some good character design too (as far as that goes when you're using derived characters). I can liken him to some great doujin artists like spacejin who go out of their way to make sure that the touhous can be distinguished not only through their get-ups.

Yeah, in recent years his character art had gotten really good. I thought he was possibly aiming at doing some professional R-18 work since he seemed to be doing more fanworks of that sort. I've never seen him do original art though. And he never came off as the type to create his own characters. I should take some time and go through his twitter.

Another thing I always liked was how he messed with perspective/foreshortening. Characters would often break out of their panels or be depicted closer to the "camera" than others. He had a pretty good sense for that sort of stuff.

There are just so many great doujin artists devoted to touhou. Such a shame that hacks like Aki Eda got to illustrate official manga. Although he got better with choosing artists, and formerly bad artists like Azuma Aya have gotten considerably better. God damn just look at that chink Marisa. Glad she doesn't draw like that anymore.

It's been more than 5 years since the last manga got published. ZUN had 3 mangas running concurrently at one point, I wonder if he's gonna do that again now that FS has ended, or he'll pace himself and release a new manga project when Ibarakasen is done.

One of the first circles that really stood out to me, his non-H stuff was excellent. I'll miss his Remilia. Rest in peace.

I alway thought all of the hang ups people have with SSiB were mostly just due to Zun not having any background in long sequential narratives which is why all of his manga after lean toward two chapter one-offs within a slice of life whole. Sure Aki Eda can’t really draw fight scenes but neither can 85% of comic artists out there. Beyond that she is mostly a slice of life type artist at her core. All of her pro work leans that way. I don’t mind her art and think she’s pretty good with expressions.

Aya’s grown as an artist over the past couple years in ways that make me wonder if it has to do with WaHH (possibly) ending and her preparing for doing her own work. She still has issues with occasional bad character art as well as integrating characters into settings (most of it has to do with her drawing in isometric for buildings and not in perspective). I like what she’s been doing with color though.

All this makes me wonder what Zun is planning next and if he does do a comic if the artist will be another up and coming one like Moe or a doujin artist. There are plenty of good ones out there but I doubt many can produce good content on a monthly/bimonthly schedule. Most just want to create art as a hobby, much like Ao.

Fuck, I've been thinking for some time about what if my favorite 2hu artist died, then this happened.
Even though I'm not following his works it's still heartbreaking since he's one of veteran 2hu artist that's still active just like Plastic Tako and Morino Hon, at least until he breathed his last. Other artists of his time must be mourning for him right now.

>> No.20614257

is this the end of an otaku era? there was that other artist that passed away at c95 while helping setup tables too. all the damage they've done to their bodies with the sleepless nights working is finally reaching up to them. i just hope we don't hear any more unfortunate stories this c96.

This incident should serve as a caution for other artists and comiket staff to better keep their health.
I wonder if weed can cause heart failure, too. You know who I am refering too.

A rape/NTR book as it turns out.

Aozora Market was one of my favorite doujin circles back in the day. It doesn't feel real that the people who love and create the same things that you do are just people grow old and die like the rest of us.

I remember reading this for the first time like it was yesterday, but I encountered it almost ten years ago, back when I was still eagerly reading every Touhou doujinshi I could get my hands on and Gensokyo was still bright and new. If I have time this week I'll dump it.
