I just tried Touhou Fightan 2: The Touhousion and this is actually pretty fun. SW something is I think the real name.

Any of you got any tips for it though? The story mode chicks are throwing spell cards at me and thoroughly raping me up the ass.

Story mode is pretty cheap and silly. Just graze back and forth until you get an opening to bonk them with something.

Online play is where it's at.

Hold D to dash/graze. Projectiles can't harm you while dashing, but physicals will slam you to the wall. (Excluding one of Iku's spell cards, in which she can fucking graze a train.)
Default button for D is A on a keyboard.
A(Z) is physical, use it to bash close-ranged.
B(X) is weak danmaku, typically fast and used to counter.
C(C) is strong danmaku, and is used for control.
Hit BC to use your current selected spell card (which means it will consume its cost, which is the other lit up cards), and E(S) and F(D) to scroll left and right between cards.

Hold back to block. Yes, there is no other way to block than to move away from your enemy.

It's a better/more balanced fighting game, but it's slower and less extravagant, and less characters to boot. I prefer SWR for its streamlined feel.

Here's a starter list for a noob.

Shootans:
Imperishable Night is a good starter. It is just as hard as the other Touhous, but you get more lives and can deathbomb easier than any other game. It'll get you started. Perfect Cherry Blossom came before it, and is another good choice, but I prefer IN. Get PCB for some variety to mix up your games of IN.

E... something o f Scarlet Devil is the first PC Touhou shootan and feels a bit unpolished as a result. It'll be hard to go back to it from PCB, but it isn't a bad game.

Mountain of Faith and SA are the newest Touhou shootans and you shouldn't forget about them. Once you whet your appetite with PCB and IN, go for them.

Shoot the Bullet is an interesting side-note, challenging you only to snap pictures of boss's spell cards. If you want more condensed Touhou action, this is worth a grab.

Also, there's a versus shootan... Phantasmagoria of Flower View, which plays like a vs. mode Tetrisy game only you send enemies and bullets to the enemy screen. A fun diversion.

The stage is pretty big (about 4 character heights worth), and can get higher if both players are flying up.

You can airdash up for a few seconds, or block a projectile in midair and get fucking FLUNG.

Easiest stage 5 boss in a real Touhou game. Seriously. Hardest in terms of cockblocking for me are Sakuya and Orin. Youmu has a special place in my heart for some really annoying bullet patterns that criss-cross and confuse me way too often, otherwise not too hard. Sanae is manageable with only a few annoying cards. MoF makes up for it's Stage 5 boss with Kanako.

The advanced version of it is Magicannon "Final Spark". It's a bigger rainbow.
