i specifically remember the ruri route had several guilt trip scenes - specifically when you you meet yuki right after banging ruri for the first time in the gym shed (see pic). not only did she verbally lambast him she even gave him a nice slap before she storms out, never to be seen again..

until yuki shows up to save the day in the ruri route, though this was technically part of the common route. i didn't know this until after finishing ruri's route, so the fact that yuki just showed up out of nowhere to save yuuya's ass felt really out of place

Yeah it's basically just a FD combined with an ad for miburo. They throw in some heroine events and let you fuck all the side girls and do some harem stuff. It's not as good but it's fine.

In 46+1 the gimmick is the MC is basically isekai time looping to try and change the past, in miburo the MC is actually from the past and just living in the era, and the gimmick is he has a dumb supernatural ability.

What this means is that instead of going through a historical event from a bunch of different perspectives and changing various things and seeing what happens, it's just one linear story that really strictly follows the actual events (including most of the heroines getting killed) then a shitty sequelbait ending. The MCs power is hyped up by the narrative to be a big deal that can actually change events, but its fucking never EVER used for anything but winning duels against mooks its the most useless story gimmick, total waste of time. They should have either not given it to him at all, or done another loop setting where the narrative can actually play around with events.

You still have multiple heroines and heroine routes, but instead of 46+1 where the heroines get a loop, in miburo they get short endings that don't really do anything with the setting. On top of that, the only main heroine who has any real interaction with the MC before getting into her route is Hijikata, whose character is all over the place.

And getting into what >>20451130 and >>20451055 are saying, they made the events of 武士の鼓動 canon but changed their characters anyway. There's a scene where Saitou and Okita suck a guys dick while Hijikata is torturing him and then kills him (and they keep sucking his dick the whole time) in 武士の鼓動 that's canon for miburo but ludicrously out of character. So they had a whole game teasing these characters and then do something different with them anyway, when they could have just not had the events of 武士の鼓動 happen because despite them being portrayed as really important for the shinsengumi in 武士の鼓動 it means absolutely nothing and is footnote tier in miburo. Having 一魅 make an appearance was a complete waste of time too, which is annoying since I like her character.

And last but not least the true ending of miburo is terrible and I don't know what the fuck they were thinking.

maybe Fleurety just isn't popular with elevens? It's a definite possibility if they aren't including her in the daki lineup available at comiket. However, there is a real possibility that there wasn't enough time between grasesta's release and c95 for there to be any last minute changes to things like physical goods.

For example it took Marmalade something like ~3 months after mashimaro's release to offer their first daki (ushio) and according to them, her popularity was a huge surprise to them

Why is it so often that a characters popularity, or lack of popularity, comes as such a surprise to the dev teams? Whenever characters are being advertised it's usually pretty obvious who are going to be the popular ones, like for Fleurety you had a bunch of people trying the game just for her.

Yeah, I've done the trial and I was not impressed, to say the least. I know we like to rag on Lilica a lot here but I really liked how well her seiyuu did considering it was one of her debut titles.

As for Sugar*Style, I'm mostly interested in Mao and Ichika this time around, and maybe pink as well. Sometimes your expectations can be completely blown away once you actually play the full game.

As for Study Steady, seeing Himari (in the leading role?) was a pleasant surprise. I already know exactly how she'll sound and its nothing special, but she's like old reliable to me. Also Momoyama Ion has become one of my favorites after reading both Atropos and Amakano2S.

I'm at the end now. Gotta say, the game's system is just not suited for how the story wants to work. Having a "parallel playing" system only really works when there's meaning for it and when it's interesting to see different places at the same time to gather information about a mystery or whatever. Axanael however doesn't want to be a mystery or anything. In fact, most of the plot-lines run completely separately with little overlap... until they overlap to the point you don't have the split anymore anyway.
Axanael also tries to use the time thing more to show urgency. "You only have x minutes till then, NOW GO". While that's supposed to make things flow fast and add excitement, that's soon killed by the game forcing you to go through several other plot-lines. It's counterintuitive. It's supposed to feel urgent and fast, and yet it feels like everything just takes forever, because you are basically reading several stories at the same time.

The endgame was also rather weak. Mostly because Noco being by far the weakest character and starting to be actually important. But that wasn't the only reason. It just felt rushed and weird. In theory you seem to be able to change some fates now, after finishing the game, but I'm not sure. The credits rolled, so it's probably just bonus content and I don't know if I need that. I sure as heck don't need the 150+ or whatever bonus-scenes in that other table, which are all as long as the transitions are going to and from them, or so it feels. Who the fuck would ever read those?!?


This game had a lot of potential, but I can understand the lukewarm reception. Even with the great visuals and audio, the fairly nice setting and characters and whatnot it just feels.. underwhelming. The system is counterintuitive, it rushes at the wrong moments and so on. Also it takes a little too long before you even know what the game wants to do. Ironically that part ends up being probably the best part of Axanael..

Alright, I checked into the "postgame" of Axanael and, well.. I know this sounds funny but, Axanael should've never had all the Axanael stuff in it. Would've been a better game like that.

There's a lot of content left once you see the credits roll the first time, and it all sucks. Largely because it's a mixture out of new stuff, old skipable content and "new" stuff that's actually not new at all but doesn't count as already read for reasons unknown. Also the skip function is shit, as it stops whenever a long animation plays, a scene changes or a human on this world farts. Very VERY VEEEERY unenjoyable to read. The story is also mostly bonkers, but honestly.. I don't feel like I can judge it well because of how awfully it's presented. Could've been good as one story. Without the BS "Axanael fate change" shit. Because every time you do that, you have to start in the middle of somewhere and are totally out of the story flow, which is hard to get into anyway, because of the "6 protags" thing. Add to that the random repetition, be it skipable or not, and it's just blergh.


Nitro+ wanted to be all fancy and special with this game. They however went way too far and it's little more than a VERY annoying gimmick that hurts the story a fuckton, but adds nothing. Even the 72 at EGS feels rather generous by now. I'm sad though. This had potential. The Axanael thing however ruined way more than it added.

I still love how pic related handled this. There was a scenario, where some character "infiltrated" a house, after a teacher went missing or something and a lot of weird stuff comes up. There are tons of photos for the interior of the house, so you always see exactly where you are and how it looks. It added a ton to the horror-ish atmosphere. Commercial VNs probably use the amount of backgrounds used in that one scene over a whole game or something.

This is a problem I'm noticing with modern VN assets, usually backgrounds but also sprites and CGs to an extent. They're way too detailed, pointlessly so, to the point where it becomes obvious that that the artists end up cutting corners and just not drawing certain scenes/backgrounds/alternate sprites because it would be too much work to use such a high level of detail so often.

I think it would help a lot if more VNs sacrificed some of their art quality for the sake of quantity, it would make them feel more alive and give more freedom for storytelling. Not just your example would work, even your regular moege could benefit from this. For dates with the heroine, instead of showing a generic background of the shopping mall (or, even worse, a black screen) and saying "we ate at this restaurant" which happens so often they could actually show the restaurant as a unique background and have a different dating location background for each heroine.

illusions recent koikatsu is one of their best works yet, even the story isn't too bad. for older stuff the love death series was ok but stands out more for the silly things you can do in them than anything else. you should consider checking out the old games from REAL too, they were pretty good

Partway through one route in the seiyuu game.
Writing wise, they go into a lot more detail on the seiyuu club part of the setting than I thought they would, all the way down to having them 棒読み through a 2-3 minute script multiple times whilst ironing out kinks along the way. So far there's no real drama or conflict and it's probably going to stay like that so don't come in expecting another Apeiria. Hell, you'll likely be bored out of your mind if you don't have some interest in voice acting and are at least somewhat of a fan of the CVs themselves.
On the topic of the CVs, I don't like how they put Kusuhara Yui with her already nasally voice in an ojousama role like this. I'm usually a fan of hers and even I think it's a bit too much. The others are okay, but I probably would have swapped Kusuhara Yui and Akino Hana's roles around if I had the choice.
Art wise, CGs and sprites look great to me as Silky's Plus' usually do, but the backgrounds are some of the laziest I've seen in a long time. Music sounds like an Apeiria remix; same instruments, same tempos, same sort of feel all around.

tl;dr comfy but plain seiyuu club shenanigans aimed at aspiring koebuta
