honestly, fgo was fucked from the very concept stage.

one of the strongest parts of fate always was the connection between master and servant. FGO gives the blandest fucking protagonist possible, which fucks the master part of the equation over, and then allows him/her to pretty much summon endless amounts of servants using various bullshit excuses. this not only makes every single one of those servants feel way less special than they should be, but it also makes the protagonist into an even worse character than he already was.

the fucker had been in chaldea for over a year, surrounded by HUNDREDS of powerful servants coming from all sorts of legends and parts in history. this guy also KNEW that every mission he goes on has the weight of all of human history and civilization on his shoulders. so how did the spent his free time? did he ask any of his magician servants to teach him atleast the basics of magic? no, during lostbelt 1 he can't even strengthen his fucking vision. did he ask someone to teach him basic self defense incase he gets attacked by something that isn't a servant? no. did he even ask anyone for a fucking gun? he makes zero effort to improve his chances by even one single digit and just lets his giant fucking harem do everything.

It has many differences to other TM games which all limit it's maximum appeal.
Simply the timing of it is limiting, VN's now sell far less than they used to.
It sold well for what it was.
The weight of TM isn't as big as was expected, that is the one debating factor.

Some of these certainly should've happened.
They knew it wouldn't be a moneymaker, the whole ethos of the project really avoided commercial decisions.
Even before it was released, Nasu and what not already had attention turned to stuff like CCC and the eventual GO.
It isn't even a completed game, which really shows that it was Nasu's draft finally adapted, which is enough for him, he left the continuation open depending on things happening.

On the bright side of things. At least there is room for quality unofficial fanfic vns. Look at Umineko's case, we have three outstanding examples: witches & woodlands, when the seacats cry and umineko when they fry are all excellent proof of potential in non-canon stories that easily equals if not surpass the original franchise. I'm sure the same will occour to nasuverse in due time. If i'm not mistaken even Battle moon wars was non-canon and i unironically enjoyed it more than fgo or any typeshit work from nasu. For this reason let fgo kill TM for its own good for a rebirth unlike any other.

Pretty sure they made them that way because of "self-insert" reasons.

What if some of the other master characters (aside from LB masters/crypters) were not incapacitated and were included in FGO (each with their own master skills and backgrounds, basically replacing mystic codes) and they have their own main servant (kinda like the Lostbelt masters)? Even if that happened, I doubt it would improve fate/go in general (it depends on the writing, really).

I'm basing a new character in a tabletop game off of Gilgamesh, and I'm using the actual Epic of Gilgamesh as my backstory because a servant summoning doesn't make any sense at all in the game. But halfway through I started to realize that it wouldn't make sense for my character to act like Gil does in F/SN because the Gil that actually went through what happened in the Epic would be humbled as fuck, and Fate Gil is the complete opposite of humble. It sounds more fun to roleplay as Fate Gil though. How would you guys reconcile this?

Working with the Nasuverse as an outsider is really difficult because the setting keeps changing its rules on a whim of the writer. We can only assume that Nasu has some sort of a notes doc on the setting that he passed to Urobuchi, Narita, Sakurai, Higashide etc. before they could write, but how they always come up with something that totally contradicts everything and shits on previous works is kind of amazing.

Nothing really. It did a good job of trimming the fat and made Lancer vs TA longer which was a huge bonus because what we got in the VN was lame. Directing and subtle character moments were really good such as the scene where Sakura plays with her ribbon. I really don't have any complaints

These are bigger problems for the pacing than the infodumps.

I think people who say Nasu is a bad writer are kind of missing the point. He is clearly a talented writer. We wouldn't be here if he wasn't. He is a bad editor, though.

I don't know how you could call it dead when CCC sold pretty well for them at the time and they had other projects on the horizon and a successful anime adaption in Zero.

I mean, sure, they wouldn't be the all-encompassing conglomerate that they are today without GO, but arguably that has been pretty bad for the company and its old fans.
