Reinforcing is fuckstrong magic as it is; using one or more of those jewels and putting all the power in them to do it would make you just about invincible.

Caster was going easy on her; Rin only got to defend for that entire fight until Caster fucked up and got close when she thought she'd won. Knowing martial arts is something we learned Rin had in the prologue.

We already knew that weapon would let her overpower Sakura; we just didn't find out exactly how until she was already doing it.
Really though, all of the characters who did even moderately well had multiple instances much like these, that were foreshadowed or just blatantly stated, then seemed a bit out of the blue when they were actually used because the foreshadowing didn't have much emphasis.

In fact shirou would fit better as a gary sue, if only he wasn't such an idiot up until when it counts (to which he then pulls out swords from his ass and gets the job done).
