I'm tired. I want to learn moon for real. Tried it a couple of times before, but dropped it because well it's fucking hard

I know that I'll suffer a lot learning it, as I'm not a kid picking up a language (it's better to study stuff when you're a kid). I didn't learn my english casually by saying "uh I'll try reading English" one morning - no, I consumed English stuff ever since I have memory (music, programs, films, artists, internet, etc)

I want to forget all the adversities mentioned above (the part that tells that I am late) for a second, and focus, focus for once and for real. How or where do I start? only know hiraganas...
Kanjis are horrible - how do I face them? I think I remember someone saying something like "learn kanas first, it'll be easier that way"

Are there any kanji decks out there which are ordered based on visual similarity? So that you can memorize ~5-10 similar-looking kanji around the same time, in order to not visually confuse them later?

Alternatively, is there a list/resource of the jouyou or JLPT kanji sorted/grouped by radicals like this so I could potentially reference it to reorder the cards in another kanji deck?

Kanjis aren't really that bad. Just think of it like that. They're pretty and they're kind of like hieroglyphs and you'll learn them one by one, eventually. Hell I don't even study them but I like learning the occasional kanji. If you approach learning them to "I want to topple down this entire brickwall!" instead of just quietly staring at the patterns and cracks on each individual brick with awe then you're just green, son.

Studying while hyped on caffeine playing trap rap music late a night creates a super kind of focus for me. Other wise I couldn't get through this shit. Do you guys get tired after studying for a short time? For example if I study for two hours with nothing I'll get sleepy and bored but playing music I'm able to continue for a few more hours.

you can turn 掃除 into a verb by combining it with させた and write it as 部屋を掃除させた.
but since the sentece seperated 掃除 and させた by putting a particle inbetween them, that leaves 掃除 as a noun. and combining noun with noun requires the の particle.

This is going to sound weird but I fucking love Kanji and wish Chinese characters or something like it could be used as a writing system in English. Since Japanese works with such a limited sound inventory, I don't see how it would be possible for me to learn the language without them; sounds would get mixed up too easily. I've definitely neglected grammar and listening compared to reading and making/studying Kanji flashcards, but I consider the former to be issues I can resolve quickly once a certain level of literacy is attained. I should be done with sixth grade and the respective flashcards by the end of November, and at that time I'll share a link to them in case anyone is interested. Here's a pretty representative example of how I've chosen to study.

How it works is, most people (Japanese natives) spend long enough knowing 1 "version" of a homophone long enough that they can easy "add" new meanings to it when they have to learn a new one.

As we are trying to cram an 18-30 year experience into 3 years or less, we don't get the benefit of such things.

Pretty much this, if you're learning a "popular" language you're gonna have a bad time. All the best ones (English, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese) have SOME part of it that makes it fucking insanely difficult and you just gotta deal with it. For English, it's the fact that we stole/borrowed from basically every language and you have no real way of telling what roots are being used at any given time for any given word.

The only thing we really have going for us is that we have lots of different sounding LONG words rather than a shit ton of short ones that sound similar, but I can't even decide which option is worse between the two desu.

How is learning how to read doesn't also give you the ability to write? Every other language is fairly easy even with archaic letters (like Arabic or Cyrillic), but with kanji if I want to learn both writing and reading I better start by writing.

Also, I got some manga raws that aren't in the library, where can I send them to get them added? The raws in question would be for 古見さんはコミュ症です。Vol. 1 through 9.
I also recommend it to beginners, the sentences use proper grammar and are mostly slang free. Also most chapters are very short, meaning that it's easy to pick up even if you don't have much time and read a chapter real quick.

Any automatic furigana software is bound to have a lot of misses. That said I'm a big proponent of reading in a web browser and using yomichan/rikai[tachi].

There are a bunch of novels in html format in the CoR. Or buy epubs/kindle books and convert them to html with calibre and share them here.

A dictionary is a dictionary, whether the lookup is manual or not. As long as you make a serious effort to remember the word before looking it and take the time to try to commit the word to memory after looking it up (often helps to listen to the line again in context) I don't think it's going to be much worse than manually looking it up.

I suppose manually looking it up might improve your memory by forcing you to type out how it's actually read but it takes infinitely more time and one of the advantages of having a dictionary tool is that you can be exposed to a lot more text in the same amount of time.

Funny, I did write a scrapper after some temporary downtime of kitsunekko a little while back. There's a rar file, but I don't really trust it to be complete due to the general buginess of the user interface.
I was a bit worried I killed it due to sending too many requests, but I had them well spaced out and only managed to get about 140MB out of 4775MB over the span of 24 hours or so.

also, the part about continually understanding a flow of text is definitely different from reading where you can read back and forth, but I think subs can help here too. mostly because the subs flash about as fast as the speakers speak them, so you don't have much time to go back and forth. The whole point is that drinking enough o-nippongo will eventually solve their grammar problems. The trouble with playing Zelda is that it received an EXCELLENT translation, so there's almost no point in playing it if you were looking for the "original Japanese is superior" meme.

Things are worded differently (at least from what I can recall of it, been like 15 years since I last played it), but all in all this game is really great practice for seeing certain less-common Kanji in the wild while getting occasional nice reading practice in. If you're like me, you'll scan every enemy to read the Navi descriptions, talk to every villager, and explore every place to try and seek out different words and interesting things.

I expect Majora's Mask to be more of the same when I go to play it, but consistent exposure while having fun isn't really the worst thing in the world.

The very earliest releases of Majora's Mask have a couple of translation hiccups in obscure NPC dialogue, about three lines, but they were all fixed in rereleases. However, IIRC, the EU and US versions have different styles of English writing, at least on the N64.

I did watch the first bit of a 実況プレイ for Majora's and I found it very curious just how different the Mask Seller's dialogue is.

For example, the famous/memetic "You've met with a terrible fate, haven't you?"　is a lot less cool/foreboding

I don't want to assume anything but if they took a lot of liberties and punched up a lot of the dialogue for the English release, I won't be too surprised. Nintendo's in-house translation team are apparently excellent writers.

ps: if you want to learn japanese from games, make sure to build up your skill level quickly enough to play anime RPGs and console RPGs that are basically VNs with lots of gameplay like neptunia and stuff. they usually have vn style cutscenes with persistent backlogs and voice replay, and and all the descriptive text and item names in the UI makes up for the lack of narration

Probably a stupid question I'm missing something obvious on or just not thinking of in the correct way, but I've seen しごき立てる used several times (usually in the context of dicks like おちんちんをしごき立てる) and I can't quiet grasp the meaning. I feel like しごき shouldn't be 扱き but I can't discount it being essentially "painfully erect" or something like that. [Noun]を[Noun][verb] doesn't seem right and I never really see しごき/扱き while reading and I can't find any example sentence on tatoeba using it.

What is babby's first raw anime?

For manga we have Yotsuba, for VNs Flyable Heart, and for LNs we have Kino no Tabi, but there doesn't seem to be a standard recommendation in terms of anime when someone comes here asking what they should watch.

Based on my experience, I feel inclined towards saying Kemono Friends should fill this role, but maybe someone else has a better idea.
