This is actually a pretty big problem for Japanese retro PC stuff (PC-88/98, FM Towns, X68000, etc.). Lots of useful information and software stands to be lost. Hopefully someone goes through and archives the whole thing.

I actually live here, and I can tell you, it’s a mixed blessing.

Everything related to banking and immigration is a nightmare because it’s all manual and slow.

At the same time, their trains run on software from the 90s with insane on-time rates.

Some days it fucks you, while others you realize how lucky you are to be here and be here.

This looks like a Doraemon parody. I don't understand what was going on, but I love the monochrome shading. Why is the domain geocities.jp and not geocities.co.jp, though? What is the difference?

It might be possible that they kill the entire thing when they heard that adobe will stop supporting flash and all browsers gonna remove it until 2020.
I'm still trying to find solutions to make it still work and an extended dev browser of firefox is supposed to keep flash still as an option.
It's possible that these two topics are related.

What even is on geocities? It's probably more likely someone has a fc2 site, if they're an active artist they have a pixiv or a twitter or at least a site on some other host, otherwise you're already seen and probably saved whatever you liked. It'd be an actual tragedy if something like sakura.ne.jp went down.

>> No.20040759

>>19993982
I don't think there is an easy way to do it, or I'd be already doing it. There is no complete list of everything on geocities, and sites sometimes have content with no links from the main page, since e.g. the links to it were posted elsewhere or removed from main page for some reason.

This guy is still drawing a very long yuruyuri/pokemon crossover, and his art improved a lot over time, although the rate of updates has slowed to a crawl.

We know from history that good emulators are eventually developed for every popular platform, but it sometimes takes a decade or more. I think eventually someone will do the same for Flash, so right now it's best to focus on preserving the content. (It can be difficult - see https://archive.fo/2gGM9.).) Between 2020 and when good emulation arrives you can create a virtual machine with the right browser and Flash. If it's Linux, you can even distribute it legally.
