四角 seems to be translated as "square", but intuitively, one would think it means "quadrilateral". Does 四角 really only mean "square"? If so, what would be "quadrilateral" in Japanese?

四角
literally "four corners"

四角形
literally "four corner form"

So would 八角 and 八角形 be the same thing? Or would 八角 be a regular octagon and 八角形 be any octagon?
