>> No.1998296

I've thought about how to do this and I still have not come up with a simple way to do it. I thought I did but then I realized I had completely neglected to think of how you aim.

My conclusion was that you could do danmaku in 3D but there needs to be a different means to attack than you have in 2D. Like either automatic aiming or something like Shoot The Bullet where you do not fight back with bullets.

Duo stick isn't "simple" by my definition. I'm the type of gamer that detests games that use all 200 buttons on the controller.

Touhou is simple, up/down, left/right, shoot, focus, and bomb.

6 DoF is Up/Down, Left/Right, In/Out, Yaw, Pitch, and Do a Barrel Roll!

I'm not sure a full 3D would be fun. When I have time I was going to mock up a prototype that keeps the 2 DoF for player movement but has 3D spell cards.

I just haven't figured out how aiming is going to work yet.

I've been thinking about how about a 3D shmup would play like and stumbled across this game here. After playing it for a while I've reached the conclusion that it might be the closest to it which is currently available on the market, with crazy bullet patterns zipping towards you from ahead and behind and the whole shebang. Your ship maneuvers a lot like Starfox's Arwing, though, hence why I can't look upon it as a full fledged 3D translation of the shmups genre.

that would take the load off having to shoot and recenter yourself, and in reality you would technically be able to function at a high enough level that you could basically just shoot at them with your peripherals while you focus on dodging

But automatic aiming defeats the whole purpose of shooting at all (unless you add the need to save ammo, and that's not how Touhou works). Why stop midway, just remove it altogether.

This thread reminds me of this one dream I had involving fighting Newton in a danmaku battle. His danmaku was more optics-based, though. I also had a dream featuring 3d danmaku, but it involved Reisen's exploding bullets and it's not all that hard to imagine how those work in 3d anyways.

In other news, if I recall correctly, humans can echolocate to some degree, and sense magnetic fields to another degree, and see a bit into ultraviolet (only women. See, that's the only reason I want to be a little girl. Don't get it wrong. ). We just can't do it like bats/insects/sharks/some other fish/monotremes do, so your point still stands though.

Come on guys, it's not that difficult. Imagine playing touhou as a FPS. It doesn't need dual-stick wielding either.

>> No.1998748

>>1998692
The same could be said for all Touhou games.

>> No.1998819

>>1998743
It is difficult because I think aiming and dodging in 3D is complicated enough that it would take away from the primary focus of the game, which is dodging.

What would be best is some kind of semi-assisted aiming, so that during boss fights there is still pressure to be in a certain spot without making aiming the main focus.
