Dofus is nice. One of the few mmos with interesting gameplay, in terms of battle system anyway.

I've been thinking about resubbing to FFXIV, the last time I played was back when it launched. Are people still sociable? Every MMO I've played lately just feels like a lonelier than usual single player game where you sometimes do a mandatory dungeon with some DPS bots.

Why would you go to a hikkomori festival to socialize?

>> No.19994569

>>19994321
Depends on what kind of player are you anon, I mostly just treat it as a single player game with multiplayer content.
Most people arr sociable, but are adverse to actually playing the game, finding people who want to actually tackle dungeons/trials/raids/pvp is kinda hard. Most FCs I have actually laughed at me for even suggesting to do sync'd duties just for fun.
Most players just want to focus on erp and housing this days.
How ever the last patch did give us some spanking new content so at least the novelty helped me to find people to play with.

>>19994530
The whole point of MMOs back then was to experience a digital world with people all around the world, of course it was a great way for a hikki to socialize.

MMOs weren't always as antisocial as they are now, in the early/mid 2000's hikikomori and NEETs were some of the most social people you could find since they were always on and the games encouraged interacting to progress. It was a lot of fun to do retarded stuff together or finding new friends.

>>19994569
That's a shame. Some of the new content looks really fun, like Suzaku, but I don't want to bother if getting to that point is just going to be a solo affair. I'm sure most of the FC's are unbreakable cliques by now too.

MMOs are still popular in China. Hopefully competent Chinese devs will max revive the MMO scene.

I miss this so much. Back in the late 90s/early 00s a lot of the internet was populated by people that were essentially on the same wavelength socially. I don't know how the new generation of NEETs can make good friends in today's internet atmosphere.

I feel like I missed out on the golden age of MMOs. I play FFXIV pretty regularly but I don't talk to anyone in it.

Some people just mark it off as nostalgia, but MMOs really used to be completely different than how they are now. I think the other anon said it pretty well, everyone had more or less the same social mindset at the time since MMOs were still very new to everyone. Information wasn't readily available so you had to ask around, there weren't dungeon finders so you had to seek out other people, and even world mobs could be a genuine threat sometimes without a party instead of just EXP grinders.

Most of those things are just viewed as inconveniences now, though, since MMOs are much more streamlined and accessible. But at the time it made people a lot more friendlier, you could join a random guild and people would sometimes immediately offer to help you or congratulate you on achievements, people would sometimes randomly approach you and try to chat you up. That sort of thing. With how much has changed since then, I don't think it'll ever be possible to have things like they were back then again though, it's depressing.

That's unfortunate. I enjoy the actual content of the game but it feels a bit lonely sometimes.
