any tips on how to improve performance in pcsx2? it's just a visual novel, the audio shouldn't skip so much

>> No.1994827

pcsx2 is an emulator, bugs and problems are to be expected.

>> No.1994823

Your audio will remain fucked unless you can get 60fps. It's what's kept me from emulating stuff so far, everything else works fine but it's just not fun to play a game with garbled voices and music.

whats your setup? my p4 is at 3.06ghz

Do you own a PS2? I would just recommend softmodding it. It's simple and cheap; it cost me $10 to softmod my "fat" PS2. All I had to do was buy a used Pro Action Replay off Amazon.com.

http://ps2-project.org/ps2p/includes/wiki/index.php5?title=ESR

Something like that may help. After softmodding your memory card you just patch the ISO, burn it, and play. If you have money, then I'd suggest another method like using a hard drive/network adapter and such. Or maybe one of those fancy new no solder chips.

And even stuff like Simoun and Kimikiss for PS2 can't even run full speed on emulation yet.

hahahahahahahahahahahahano.

You need at least a dual core Athlon or (preferably) Core 2 to even think about emulating the PS2.

I'm just stating fact. There's no way any P4 system will emulate PS2 games at anywhere close to full speed.

>> No.1995118

>>1995101
The PS2 is 300mhz.

You need a system 5x that speed to emulate as the general rule of thumb.

Seems plausible.

Your best bet is to enable every single speed hack you can.

Consider looking into some of the old X3 builds as well. They're based on older built on older builds, but seem to run better, even if they have priority problems.

It is kind of strange the kind of things that lag in pcsx2, though. My lolricer machine has no problems with something like odin sphere at 60 fps, which gave the original hardware a heart attack. It stutters and complains on visual novels, though. No idea why that is.

>> No.1995197

It's hopeless, I can't get PCSX2's audio to not skip on a Q9450 Quad Core @ 2.66Ghz, 8GB RAM, and a 9800 GTX video card.

Fucking ridiculous how difficult it is to find a setup that's even moderately playable, and even then it only works decently for a few games.

someone do me the favor and turn this into a Tamao thread, I have not the images to do so myself...

>> No.1995262

I actually asked about this with a PCSX2 developer once. VNs and similar games on the PS2 may not render a lot of primitives, but they push enormous amounts of texture data (in the form of high-resolution 2D backgrounds and characters) compared to "typical" polygon-based games. Because of the way the PS2 works, all that data essentially has to be recopied from main RAM to VRAM every single frame. When running these games on an emulator, the bottleneck may actually end up being the PCIe bus, which isn't any faster on a Core i7 ricebox than on a 5-year-old P4.

my old p4 computer didn't even have PCI express it had fucking AGP. the new PCIe 2.0 slots are pretty fucking fast I highly doubt there's going to be a bottle neck there.

I don't have that one. This will make for a good reason to give PS2 emulation another try.

Unless I recall wrong, doesn't the silly emulator print while running too? Shouldn't that slow things down considerably? Maybe there is a way to turn that off.

>> No.1997410

>>1997395

Oh, I did. It just displayed in another name. Oh well, not PS2 emulation for me until I get some rocket science PC.

Maybe I should get my regular PS2 modded instead. I assume modded versions can handle JP imports fine? (living in a PAL country and all)
