That's a very common misconception. The MEAN life expectancies in feudal societies were 30-ish, but that's largely due to miscarriages and infant death. Nowadays those are rare one-off tragedies, but they used to be just facts of life to the point where in some societies you wouldn't even bother naming a child until it lasted a few months, and that massively drives down the average. If you made it past your first birthday, chances are you were going to reach a reasonable age - mediaeval societies weren't some kind of bizarro world where anyone over 35 was considered a wise tribe elder.
