no problem, it's common to disable auto-suspending leeches and raise the lapse count for being tagged as a leech.
something i don't usually see mentioned though is that because failing a learning step doesn't add to the lapse counter you can add more learning steps to your deck so that the counter increases only when the card is failed while above whatever interval sounds appropriate, which helps avoid the tag getting flooded with words you learn slowly so you can use it to identify words you might want to do something about.

That's true with vocabulary as well. Studying kanji, vocabulary and grammar in pseudo-isolation (pre-made lists) has some value as it raises your potential of comprehending things during the more import immersion (in kanji's case, reading immersion).

yes
some shit goes over your head and you don't worry about it
some shit you feel like you only understand because of context but you trust that your brain can make connections because that's what it does
some shit you have a pretty good guess of and if you're wrong you will figure it out from more exposure
and some shit is second nature to you
the more lines in the middle, the better, too much going over your head means you're wasting your time, too much second nature means you're wasting your time
before you suggest that everything will go over your head as a beginner, remember that visual context goes a long way
how do you think you learned your first language?
it's not a waste of time to get a brief overview of the kinds of things out there, particularly for reading, but you don't "learn" from a book

This doesn't work in Japanese. I can't even read Yotsuba or any other "easy" stuff. In any other sane language i could just check words in dictionary but here I can't even know where they end or begin, and the whole word order is different too.
Only after learning words and grammar I can start to recognize some patterns. But still I find it more productive just learning stuff with books now than spending a hour on each text bubble.

I need something text only, cause I feel like I rely a little too much on the drawings in manga.
Oh, I just noticed the LN's in the library of the guide have a neat unique kanji count next to them. If these would be too hard, then you could sort of rephrase my question to: "what would be a good number of kanji for someone's first LN?"

Usually all heroines and minor characters will be voiced. Characters too unimportant to have a name or sprite because they only show up for a few lines in one or two scenes are often unvoiced. The protagonist is almost never voiced.

This seems to be how it goes with relatively modern VNs anyway. Not sure what the situation is like for older ones, but some old VNs which were totally unvoiced at release but became very popular can end up getting re-releases with voice acting (e.g. Clannad).

i don't see the point in cycling back to posts i've already addressed unless your motivation is to provoke more pointless responses that just shit up the thread. you view anything academic as sacred for unknown reasons, even if it's non-scientific. my guess is that you have an interest in linguistics and krashen and so you're personally offended on his behalf. that's fair, but instead of being honest you try to frame the discussion in terms of "scientific" terms being misappropriated, when in reality nothing krashen does professionally is scientific. his area of study is a hobby and nothing more, so it would be more accurate to say that someone is misappropriating a hobbyist's term. i guess you can call people sociopathic for not caring how a hobbyist uses a term. i think it's hyperbolic but you do you.

Well, I hit 30 consecutive days after resetting my mining deck after a 6 month break. With that plus reading everyday, it really feels like my studies are back on track. I changed my settings so I have more intervals on new cards the first day, that plus lots of reading has made anki a lot easier. Also, treating the program as a way to reinforce readings while getting meaning through context has been amazing and makes it less stressful and even a bit fun. ~15 minutes per day and I got through 1200 new cards with half already matured, although a lot of those have become very familiar to me. I'll probably slow down to 20-30 new cards a day from now on, but I'm really glad I did this and want to continue.

You're putting too much time and effort into mining.
Don't mine too much, or your anki time will just start to overtake your reading time.
Don't add all words, only add the words you think you'll need extra help remembering.
Focus on reading more, it'll act as a natural SRS for the easier words.

i only respond to extremely important posts and i'm breaking that creed to respond to this to tell you how terrible of an idea it is

not only is having 3k words in your sorta-kinda short term memory not """knowing""", it's also not having a fluent control of those 3k words, and even then having a fluent control of 3k words is nowhere even fucking close to fluency in japanese

also, if you do the math at all, you'll realize that assuming you see each card exactly two times and each view lasts two seconds, that's a solid fucking 3.3 hours right there, start to finish, assuming you're literally perfect and focus through it just fine.

if you have ANY leeches or take any breaks or have periods where cards take five seconds instead of 2, that number is going to double and quadruple and suddenly you're going to need 33 hours, not 3.3, to get through it all.

that's ignoring the fact that your brain is gonna burn the EVERLOVING FUCK out of itself barely 200 words into this ordeal and you're basically gonna walk away knowing jack shit the day after.

even assuming that temporary fluency is a thing flashcards are the last place you're gonna get it, flashcards are the slow burn that covers your ass when you ain't doing the shit you gotta do or your method has a hole in it somewhere that needs taping-over. they're not a fluency hack.

if you really want to experience "temporary fluency", do FOCUSED audiovisual immersion with anime or very commentary-heavy 実況 for a solid ten hours straight instead. the rewiring effect it'll have on your brain will be so severe that it'll make you FEEL fluent for a good hour, before it wears off and you realize it was just an illusion, however unlike the flashcards it'll actually do you some good in the long run.
