Let me get this straight.

1- Archer becomes a Servant, knowing that Rin, Shirou's ally in the war, is the one master most likely to summon him.

2- He also knows that Rin will end up seeing how incredibly miserable his life was.

3- He picks fights with Shirou and lets him copy his fighting style.

4- He fixes Shirou's nerves after they go numb.

5- He betrays Rin to Caster, but lets them both go, even though he supposedly wants to kill Shirou.

6- He kills Caster without harming anyone else instead of taking Shirou out with her.

7- He shows Shirou how Unlimited Blade Works functions before setting him up to a duel.

8- He fights Shirou and taunts him until Shirou starts beating him back.

9- He tells Shirou to go kill Gilgamesh, even though he knows he doesn't have the magic power to do it.

10- Rin does.

11- He fucks up the Holy Meatball, kills Gilgamesh and tells Rin to look after Shirou.

In the end, Shirou still becomes a superhero, except he has Servant-level abilities before he graduates from high school, he has a real magic teacher to help him improve, he keeps Avalon and he gets a lifetime of sex with Rin.

If you're talking about getting Rin's good ending, then yeah, it was a little tricky. Basically, screw up the last choice in the route, go to the dojo, and pay close attention to Rin's advice.

Just to clarify, when Rin says "she", she's talking about Saber.

aside from the good ending, it's pretty hard to screw up aside from 2 specific points (the first of which is pretty fucking hilarious in hindsight, but is sure to surprise the hell out of you the first time if you fall for it). just remember to save before each choice.
