Very few friends all through my childhood.
Playing old games on my old computer.
A friend from high school told me about 4chan, so I was stuck in /b/ for a year until I watched Rozen Maiden because of desu.
Then I found out about torrents and spent hours upon hours, month after month, on watching anime.
And now I'm learning Japanese. I might as well just kill myself if it wasn't for the belief I have in the small chances the future might bring.

After fapping to said doujin I saw a thread on /a/ about how shitty Samurai Champloo is. I liked the way the site looked so I decided to lurk it. And because everybody had the username "Anonymous" I typed Anonymous into the namefeild and made a thread.
6. I became a tripfag for 3 years. Then I realized how retarded I was being.
7. I use to hate Touhou back in those days. Maybe I only hated it because of the annoying Touhou hijacks. After the /a/ split I realized how shitty /a/ was, so I decided to stay on /jp/. Eventually I gave into peer pressure and became a Touhoufag.

I've always been a nerd. In high school I was mostly just into video games, Warhammer, and D&D, although I did watch some anime (mostly shows on adult swim). I started lurking 4chan over 4 years ago when I was linked to /h/ on some hentai forum. It was only about a year ago when I decided to check out /a/ (at that time I mostly browsed /v/), which got me into anime and manga. Then after watching Welcome to the NHK and F/SN I got interested in eroge, which led me to /jp/, where all the Touhou threads got me to download and play the games. I'm still not very much into Touhou but the games are fun.

I was all into asian culture when I was younger. I found out about pokemon and I got into that. I started watching miyazaki movies and got further into anime and the such. On the OT WoW forums people spammed /b/ memes and I became a /b/tard. One day I saw a link on a site about the hare hare yukai dance in TMoHS, which lead me to watch the show. Later, I visited /a/ and lurked for hours a day. I played clannad and touhou and then once the /a/ /jp/ split happened, I started lurking both boards and became more involved in all of 4chan. And here I am today.

Was a typical animufag. Found an image of ME-tan on some site or other. Found out about OS-tan. Found 4chan through that. Slowly became accustomed to the ways of the otaku. Now I don't even watch anime (except occasionally raws for Japanese practise). VNs onry.

If not for ME-tan, I might have become a Gaiafag or something.

Wow, most of the people who posted in this thread had a low power level before 4chan.

4chan hasn't changed me at all. I hated 3D long before doing so was considered cool. I was suppressing my power level before the phrase had been coined. And I was playing a bootlegged copy of Xenogears on my Japanese PlayStation because I couldn't stand mainstream JRPGs. But now that I think about it, I was still going through the shonen shit phase.

Most of us aren't really all that lonely. Most happen to have wives or girlfriends except for the real hardcore dudes who need to be kind of fucked up and eccentric to be as hardcore as they are. Game development teams and studios tend to operate like a family... they eat together, play together, go on vacations together, etc.

It wasn't until I started working from home that I began to feel ronery.

There just seems to be a big missing reel in my life. I mean, there isn't really a time that I could point to and say "There! That was where it all went wrong." Rather, it's been sort of a lazy slide down a gentle slope, and it just sort of all blurs together.

My friend showed me 4chan's /b/ in late 2005. During this time I was the type of weeaboo that wasted exorbitant amounts of money on English Newtype issues and animu DVDs. Aside from /b/, all of the boards were painfully slow during this time, so I didn't really browse /a/ until later. Through /b/ I discovered fansubs, and my first pirated animu was Azumanga Daioh. The spring season of 2006 got me into /a/ with the whole Haruhi craze. That whole year was like magic to me, and I spent all of my time watching fansubbed animu and browsing 4chan. However, my previously good grades started declining, and it was the first time I had gotten less than a 4.0. The point of no return was in early 2007, when I marathoned all of Welcome to the NHK a week after the last episode aired in one sitting on a school night. Although initially the viewing inspired me to spend less time on animu and cultivate a social life, my subsequent failures made sure I would never try it again.

Everything that happened after that shouldn't really be of interest, as I am like the rest of you.

I saw an F/SN AMV at an anime convention, and was immediately hooked (mostly because I'd recently read The Epic Of Gilgamesh, and he was in it). I watched the anime, and recommended it to a friend. He watched it, and decided to pirate the VN, which he then burned to a disc and gave to me because he thought I'd like it. Once I finished all of that, I moved on to Tsukihime, did the Ciel route... and now I'm hooked. Brass Restoration didn't do much for me, though; hopefully WtK will be a bit less disappointing, but it's looking like I won't get to fuck the cat, so...

My life pretty much consists of several different tangents (with being a lurker on 4chan since early 2005 as one of them) that there really is no classifiable "path". I mean, I was born in Okinawa, grew up in the Pacific Northwest, and now for some bizarre reason I'm trying to get an MA from a uni in Tennessee.

To top that off, my parents have been broadcasting to the whole world that I am "autistic" ever since I was 16 (I'm 25 now). When they send me care packages (not very often) they usually include a newspaper clipping or internet news thing about some retarded autistic kid going to college, like it's supposed to be some motherfucking inspiration.

I think it was the OS daughters that really got me interested in 2D-ism, but there were other small, accumulative interests I got while on an extended holiday after dropping out of art school.
It really only started about 2.5 years ago. Before then I was mainly interested in Japanese history and classic cinema, like Kurosawa and Ozu. And mainstream, or established animators like Takahata and Miyazaki.

Those examples are obnoxiously overused, and certainly not indicative of the general trend. 1. Watched Full Metal Panic + FUMOFFU! on Comcast On Demand. Downloaded a dual-audio OGM from Isohunt and preferred the Japanese dub. That was the mistake of my life.
2. Played in a Call of Duty tournament in '04, moved to another a few years later, met a part-time weeaboo and got curious. Downloaded + watched Azumanga Daioh with dual audio tracks in OGM.

You're both silly. Being lonely shouldn't have anything to do with liking or not liking 2D. Simply by saying that it does suggests that 2D is a supplement for a lack of 3D. It suggests that if someday, magically, a 3D lover fell out of the sky in into your arms, your love for 2D characters would fade. I see this as a betrayal, and I cannot except it. If you want a girlfriend and can't get one and are lonely, then fine, but that doesn't have anything to do with liking or not liking 2D girls. I dislike ota who talk as if "you have to live the blues to sing the blues," because this isn't the same situation. I will admit that some social awkwardness does lead one down the alternate path necessary to awaken to moe, but once that awakening has occured loneliness shouldn't be a requirment for one to continue being an ota. If it is, then you are, in my humble opinion, betraying 2D.

I speak from experience, I got into 2D during a phase of my life when I couldn't get a girlfriend but wanted one. Now I have a girlfriend, but I still feel just as strongly about 2D girls and play more eroge than anyone I know. I'm only interested in having sex with my real girlfriend once every few months, which is something I've had to explain to her before. Amazing that she still puts up with me. But I wouldn't change my hobbies even if it meant breaking up with her.

If you don't want a 3D lover, then fine, don't have one, but I get very irritated by people who think that you have to be out of luck with 3D in order to be into 2D, or that people with 3D lovers will never understand you. That's basically indirectly stating that 3D is better than 2D, and is an insult to yome the world over.

/rant, I'll use my sage, sorry for this faggy post but this is probably the most otaku-ish post I've ever made on 4chan. Thanks for reading.
