I think they're way in over their heads in terms of what they think they can accomplish as a small dev team, at least in a short amount of time. Based on all of their updates they've had so far, they want them:

*9-panel
*100% automated/factory-built with as little assembly by hand as possible.
*Waterproof
*800 lbs. max per panel
*Ultrasensitive
*Misfire-resistant (structurally strong enough so that only the panel that you're stepping on is activated and not any other adjacent panels that you aren't stepping on at all)
*Foot position detecting(?)
*Pressure-sensitive
*All of the above while being $375 - $600 USD per pad (not including shipping); at most, literally less than half the cost of a single 5-panel StepManiaX pad.

The more I think about this, the more it seems like your average Kickstarter scam or incompetently-managed project, but without the crowdfunding or ebegging. It's a lot more like the latter because I trust them to be honest and hard-working, it's just that they're hobbyists trying to turn a cool thing that they've made/they're making into a commercial product mostly by themselves. To do that right takes a long-ass time, and I won't be surprised it takes another year or two to make this happen.

Drummania looks great fun.
Played rock band/guitar hero on drums once and had a great time. I don't care about drums as an instrument, but drum rhythm games apparently satisfy both the pleasures of hitting stuff with a stick and pressing buttons to a rhythm.

GF looks boring though. And why still only 3 buttons?

Well, since I got no real responses I just went for it.
I mean, 1,89€ there are games that are more expensive and much worse.

I dig the entire artstyle, the game has basically no loading times compared to the first one.
Have to unlock though, thats stupid. I just want all songs to be unlocked immediatly.
There is a story told through tweets and responses, kinda neat but feels cheap.

Not many songs unlocked by now, from what I've gathered the basic version has arround 50~60 songs all composed by more or less known artists from the scene. There are currently 4 extra characters each coming with arround 10 songs, each costs 11 bucks. A bit much if you ask me, considering the music of each character is categorized in Genres. For owners of the basic version they have for example no rock, classic or jazz songs.

Overall, the game is fun, the three difficulties offer something for everyone. But the paymodel is pretty meh ..

And here's my 1048. I started playing IIDX a few months ago and haven't used any other playstyle (can only do a good chunk of 7s and only was able to start clearing easy 8s a few days ago).

In this position my pinky has plenty of additional range of motion to comfortably scratch without disturbing the rest of my form at all. My biggest playstyle problems right now seem to be hitting dense clusters of 1 and 3, and to a lesser extent hitting key 7 accurately can be rough because of how I have to curl up my right ring finger in order for my hands to be comfortable on the controller.

Because of this I think it might be time to try dynamically switching to something other than 1048 when the aforementioned uncomfortable notes come, but I dunno when is the usual "right" time in a player's progression to do so.

Damn, that god pinky did not disappoint.
And yeah, it's mostly just play more. Even very awkward patterns become more natural overtime, and dense 123 is pretty tricky in general.
7s and 8s are quite early, so you shouldn't worry too much yet, but it's not a bad idea to experiment here and there. Pinky on 7 is difficult at first, but can be very useful for very dense charts due to the improved manoeuvrability compared to using your ring finger.
You're pretty much set with a god pinky like that though. I've sort of hit a wall because I can't do taka.s nor god pinky, so density with scratches is really rough unless I learn wrist scratching.

I used to play stepmania 10-15 years ago and it made me much better on a pad.

I don't think the size and orientation of the buttons is the entire skill set involved in this game. Learning patterns/songs and wiring my brain to process 7 keys seems more important right now.

thanks my dudes. iidx has quickly become my favorite rhythm game so i look forward to improving. these threads have been very helpful

although i have a pop'n controller on the way so my progress may slow down for a bit while i'm splitting my rhythm game time.

Actually you'd be surprised at how little adjustment is needed if you use a key layout that roughly mimicks arcade

Though you will be a total scratchlet lol
Then of course there's that 18 walkure that is barely 9dan so idk

Just make sure you play ac so you're not aids at timing and make sure you get a controller eventually

Not that guy, but there's only one asc available (the dao one) and you have to replace all the buttons in it for it to not suck. Otherwise you have to build a controller yourself from scratch which is irritating if you just want to play the game.

I disagree with this. Have you ever tapped your finger on a table to a song? Perhaps during high school or when you were a kid? Hearing the tapping and feeling your finger hit against the surface just feels fun and satisfying in a way. Touchscreens are no different from that.

The shamisen/Mandolin beat in the beginning and background of this song is one I hear all the time in Japanese music. I'm assuming it's a classical piece that gets reused a lot. Can anyone tell me the name of it?

I imagine that pop'n controllers are actually some of the easier controllers that you can build yourself, mainly because it's just 9 digital buttons and you don't have to deal with any encoder stuff like for SDVX knobs or a IIDX turntable, which require a special PCB. For pop'n, you should be able to just use something like a Xin-Mo, which is something that I plan to sometime in the future.

>> No.19814048

>>19814026
>you don't have to deal with any encoder stuff like for SDVX knobs or a IIDX turntable,
It's really, really easy to find a bit of code for an arduino that lets you run it as a HID, all you need to do is put the wires in the right place. It might take an extra half an hour or so to build a controller with encoders, but if you want working lights it'll be practically the same level of work either way.

I'll never understand people who buy controllers for this shit, the savings are insane.

It's 200+ bucks for an FP7. You can build one yourself with 50 dollars in parts.

okay list all the main parts with their prices. And don't forget a laser cutter which I am sure everyone has at home.

>> No.19814135

>>19814082
20 bucks for buttons, 5 dollars for an encoder, 3 bucks for a turntable surface/knobs, a dollar for a low friction divider to let it spin freely, 4 bucks for an arduino, 10 bucks for pre-cut wood, 5 bucks for an assortment of hole saws, and you can borrow a drill if you don't already have one.

None of this shit is expensive. If you want to upgrade to arcade spec add another 40 bucks, you're still coming in at cheaper than an FP7 without Sanwas.
