1967240 No.1967240 [Reply] [Original]

Here is a story from a guy dumb enough to attend his college anime club.

This week there was a new person attending as the new quarter started recently. When asked for his name, the first time he replied, "I am but a shadow." and the second, "I go by many names!" The child-minded majority of the anime club ate this up and had a good laugh. He never actually gave us his name, so let's just call him Shadow the Hedgehog. I'm sure he'd like it! He's asked if he plans to return to the club in the future, and he nonchalantly answers that he may or may not. Oh, you!

Shortly after this, I hear him say the worst possible thing. "I lived in Japan for two years." On top of this, he says he was in the military (it's easy enough to put two and two together and see that he was only in Japan because of that). I do not stop hearing about these two things throughout the night. Of course not, they're the only interesting things about him and he has to be the life of the party despite that. He makes sassy comments throughout the anime showings, things I've seen on 4chan a million times. What a surprise! He's been to 4chan and his only sense of humor consists of reciting things he's read from the internet. We watch episode 1 of Lucky Star despite my knowing it can't hold the attention of these hyperactive kids, and he of course announces that this show is boring and about food. What a witty remark! Shadow, I admit you definitely belong in this anime club.

>> No.1967241

I decide to play the anniversary episode of Powerpuff Girls since, well, it was pretty good. Shadow constantly protests, yelling to turn it off, etc. Everyone else loves it. So, of course, he magically starts loving it too and begins to cheer on with them when you see Miss Bellum's face. It's easy to see what kind of guy Shadow is. My roommate and I decide to leave early because we just can't stand him anymore. On my way out, I whisper to the president about how much I can't stand him, and it turns out he feels the same way. Maybe that's why I keep coming to the club -- I don't want to abandon the leaders who have somehow managed to stay cool.

Here is a little sidestory! Last week some of the people who started a little manga project came up to us, saying one of them had designed a mascot for the club, something we'd mentioned trying to do soon. What was his design? A fat lady in a mink coat and boots. I have no idea how you can get to that through designing a mascot for an anime club. I decided it was time I drew one too, to save us from that atrocity, so I draw a little girl with a side-ponytail held up by a pin with our school letters, XP-tan style. Simple but effective. I showed it to the club this week (it was generally awww'd at) and the mink coat designer scrambles over to us, asking us how to use a scanner so he can show it to and the club can have a vote. Somewhere in his brain, he thinks there's people who want a fat lady in a mink coat as their mascot.

Why am I putting up with this? Please share your terrible anime/Japanese culture/etc. clubs as well.

The first four episodes of Lucky Star were the best, and episode four of Gurren Lagann had the best style. They should have made Gurren Lagann longer than 15 episodes, I hear they are making an OVA or movie or something though.

There's nothing wrong with generic as long as it's moe. I'm not going to waste a good idea on a mascot for this shitty club.

Tohno Shiki waited. The street lights above him blinked and sparked out of the air. There were exorcists in the town. He didn't see them, but had expected them now for years. His warnings to Satsuki Yumizuka were not listenend to and now it was too late. Far too late for now, anyway.
Shiki was a murderer for eight years. When he was young he watched his brother and he said to dad "I want to be a vampire daddy."
Dad said "No! You will BE KILL BY CIELS"
There was a time when he believed him. Then as he got oldered he stopped. But now in the extravagant manor of the Tohnos he knew there were exorcists. "This is Sacchan" the radio crackered. "You must fight the exorcists!"
So Shiki gotted his pcoket knife and cut up the wall.
"HE GOING TO KILL US" said the exorcists
"I will shoot at him" said the Ciel and she fired the black keys. Shiki cutted at her and tried to blew her up. But then the ceiling fell and they were trapped and not able to kill.
"No! I must kill the exorcists" he shouted
The radio said "No, Shiki. You are the exorcists"
And then Shiki was a Nanaya.

And I'm well aware that most people don't like Lucky Star, that's why I didn't want to show it in the first place. I was just annoyed by him spouting off every complaint he's heard on the internet about it.

Flandre Scarlet waited. The candles above her winked and sparked out of the air. There were toys in the mansion. She didn't see them, but had expected them now for years. Her warnings to Remilia Scarlet were not listenend to and now it was too late. Far too late for now, anyway.
Flandre was a vampire for 500 years. When she was young she watched her sister and she said to dad "I want to be a lady Sakuya."
Sakuya said "No! You will BE DANMAKU BY MARISA"
There was a time when she believed her. Then as she got oldered she stopped. But now in the extravagant mansion of the Scarlets she knew there were toys. "This is Pachi" the radio crackered. "You must play with the toys!"
So Flandre gotted her Lävatein and blew up the wall.
"SHE GOING TO BREAK US" said the toys
"I will shoot at her, ze~" said the Marisa and she fired the Master Spark. Flandre shotted at her and tried to blew her up. But then the ceiling fell and they were trapped and not able to play.
"No! I must play with the toys" she shouted
The radio said "No, Flandre. You are the toys"
And then Flandre was Marisa's bitch.

What I find rather ironic is that people keep bitching about anime clubs being full of fags on 4chan, which is a site that contains the exact same kind of person. (Though of course there is a difference between the Internet and real life.)

>>1967532
I don't hate it; I merely disliked the anime and have no interest in playing it.

>> No.1967549

>>1967511
Why is that ironic? 4chan is a group of people who hate each other, and since it is nothing but shit, we don't like to make it apparent that we frequent this place. When some faggot goes around shouting memes in public and talking about 4chan in public, true anonymous face palm (maybe even only on the inside, to further hide their power level) and go on about their way.

The problem is that most anime club attendees these days do visit 4chan, and 95% of the time they're the kind of 4chan users you hate. My original post might sound kind of arrogant, but it's only because the people at that club are just that poor of quality. These are the kind of people that jump around yelling and "glomping" eachother while they share their Kingdom Hearts AMV links. I am sadly not exagerrating in the least.

I agree. There are many people who think that visiting /a/ makes them superior to other anime fans. I'm one of them. But this is only because /a/ typically likes shows that aren't shown on cartoon network and because /a/ knows not to wear naruto headbands in public. Yes, they do exist. Larger companies tend to have clubs that are a lot like college clubs. For example, the company I work for has a literary club, a gaming club, an anime club, a general technology club, etc.
A friend and I visited the gaming club with Dreamcast in tow to see if anyone wanted to throw down for some Guilty Gear and Ikaruga, and found it to be nothing more than an orgy of waggling wiimotes and DS games. No one was interested in playing imports, older games, or PC games. We never went back.
