>Rance IX - 100% translated

This made me wonder, just what happens after editing that can take quite some time anyway before release? Quality Assurance?

>Koikuma - New round of QA starting, 2018 release

At least seeing Doddler tweeting his work on it gives some hope on this 2018 release being true. Though, as he said in his tweets, how is that going onto Steam? I guess we might find out soon

QA and testing. You need to make sure that changing the strings to English or editing images hasn't broken the thing in any way and for gameplay titles this can take a lot of time since you have lots of different things to look through and test.

I am going to take a huge guess and say 2 are moege and the other 2 are Nukige. As for the partner one has to wonder who it is.

>>19586150
>This made me wonder, just what happens after editing that can take quite some time anyway before release? Quality Assurance?

You would be surprised at how much Quality Assurance exists. They are more than likely having editors combing over every single line and having certain people test out if there is any bugs when playing the game at all.

Most likely disappointed by the initial sales numbers of KnS 1 and 2.
KnS sold horribly the first few years and only later it became somewhat of a hit. They also had issues with Kara no Shoujo 1, where they couldn't afford to pay the seiyuu company and it was initially released without voices, just like Koihime Musou.
Seeing that Innocent Grey went to JAST with the Flowers series makes me wonder if we're ever going to get KnS 3 translated, hopefully not by JAST.

In short, they are trying to get the translation to work with the remastered version which came out this year in Japan.

I'll go with:
>Kami-sama Nante Yondenai!
>Galzoo Island
>Sakura no Mori Dreamers
New partner should be a ''bigger'' nukige since Quof said that his translation project will be announced at Otakon and so far he's only translated nukige for them. He also posted that one of the characters speaks with a kansai dialect. Taking a quick look at vndb and at visual novels with that tag I found Maou no Kuse ni Namaiki da!
It seems like a gameplay nukige to me and it's by Luxury, which are part of Nexton.

Conjueror also said that he's translating a medium sized plotge/chuunige for MangaGamer and we still have the Sorcery Joker hint left.

If it sold well later on surely they would not leave. My guess is as good as anyone else's as to answer may happen. But I am hoping MG at least Secured KnS 3 license and did not ask anything else. My guess is KnS 1-3 will stay with MG while anything else after will be with JAST.

IIRC, the remaining hints are sakura, language, otome, and Sorcery Jokers.

Sakura Mori Dreamers and the Kalmia8 otome games would clear out two of the hints. I personally think that the other titles are also related to the hints, though they could save some notable titles for Anime NYC. It's also possible that Sorcery Jokers was never meant to be a hint.

Language is far too vague for me to guess. There's Kotonoha Amrilato, but that's yuri overload. As for the Sorcery Jokers hint, I think it refers to another 3rd Eye game. Maybe Sorcery Jokers sold okay enough for MG to want to try another 3rd Eye game. I remember Kouryuu saying that MG was willing to try to get more Propeller titles.

>>19588895

I just read it. I can understand where he is coming from with wanting Plotge. But he really makes not the best arguments for it. Why does everything need to be just plotge like 999 visual novel? And also why even attack MG when they are finally getting current games which is going to open up more options for them in the future? Sex is a huge seller or at least enough to give them the money needed to keep going.

To me I even understood this year was going to be full on BL, Otome, Moege knowing the industry they follow trends or what they think will sell. Expecting anything more than sex would lose them sales just look at Sekai and how they have to bend over backwards to appease customers with Maitetsu.

He is also missing a few other games with plotge elements like Grisaia Full Trigger, that is on its 5th episode, Steins;Gate Elite, I walk among Zombies(yes I will give Denpasoft credit on this one despite them being a shell for Sekai).

Lastly though I do predict next year or even at the end of this year we will see more Plotge and/or Gameplay orientated games. But I don't think it will be like that guy says where all sex games are gone and its just that though. That's him using his feelings and not understanding economics.

If all they wanted was profit, every company would do pure nukige, but that isn't the case at all. Heck, none of the announcements from the 3 main companies were pure nukige.

>>19592770
Personally, I can respect MG's decision to announce Rance X at AX. They just want to assure people that they are finishing up the series even if X won't release for 3 years or so. Ys left Xseed, and people thought Flowers was a shoe-in for MG before JAST got it, so there is some logic in outright announcing a hyped game as early as possible. Any issues I have concern the probable release date of the remakes being after Rance X, but Alicesoft will likely release Rance 04 in the future even though they already released Rance X.

If you meant officially, Aksys or Idea factory, would probably be the one to pick it up, if ever.

X was also a super-last minute addition that they just got right before the panel, so the hannies were speculating if they really did intend to announce GalZoo because of Min but swapped it out for X (and IX) latter on because of the X confirmation.

Geez, it seems people are forgetting already that MangaGamer used to be called NukigeGamer a few years ago and only thanks to certain titles which did extremely well on steam (from the early Eden*, Go Go Nippon to Kindred Spirits) they managed to get better licenses.
MangaGamer currently has the best licenses they ever had, saying that you're let down just because they didn't announce 3+ all ages story focused plotge is quite silly.
They kinda should be thankful that they are even getting plotge at all considering how much more expensive they are to license compared to some random moege or nukige which would be less risky to pick up and on average more profitable than plotge.

It would help if JAST wasn't hogging the Nitro+ licence while doing very little with it, then it might relieve the problem sightly, but even then it is still impossible to release good plotge after good plotge.

> Which makes me wonder if they are going to try their hand in trying to find small companies etc
I feel this is a double edged sword. You might get something on the cheap but it will be some no name title by some literally who and then it will go unnoticed. Even something like Myth, which had a few people know a bit about it, ended up being a complete flop with something like 300 sales on steam.

It is a boring game made for Japanese train otakus and lolicons. But they butchered the release for lolicons, so it is almost only for western Japanese train otakus.

It was really heading towards Haruka sales first, as most lolicons would buy multiple copies. But then they failed the launch, and kept censorship in the fix. Removing all motivation for people to buy multiple copies to bring in more Lose games.

Right now they are still selling above expectations as people will still buy it for the loli content, despite that they'd rather not pay over 50% of the price for a censored product.

I'd have angrily bought one copy myself, but I had two big expenses hit so I had to save money for later. I'm kind of hoping they change their minds and fix the release by then, or offer a discount.

It is nice, but much more difficult to follow than your average VN, as it is dense with politics and train talk. I think most people will find it boring and/or difficult to follow and engage with. The loli aspect is also mostly the Hscenes which are nearly all after-stories, so the perverts will have to get past the story hurdle. Overall, I don't see it having a very broad appeal. Personally I like it and don't think the censorship is very meaningful, though.

2. Umineko When They Cry - Answer Arcs
3. Princess Evangile Whappiness Hardcopy Bundle
4. Kindred Spirits on the Roof Limited Edition
5. Umineko When They Cry - Question Arcs

Despite not even being on sale (50$ and 60$) Princess Evangile climbed up the chart. Kindred Spirits on the Roof seems to be one of MangaGamer's most successful hardcopy titles since it's in the chart almost all the time.
I'm not really a yuri fan but the limited edition, which includes an art book, 2 disc soundtrack and other goodies looks great. Wish other titles would sell so well and got this kind of limited edition treatment.
Umineko Answer Arcs hardcopy was released last month and people most likely bought both Question and Answer Arcs together.

The other surprising thing is that Imouto Paradise 2 hardcopy isn't in it. Maybe most people already pre-ordered it some weeks ago or they are going to buy it at Otakon in a few days.

>>19601472
It's most likely going to be Sisterly Bliss, since I doubt they want to put 2 nukige in a row (Bitter Exclusion).
Damekoi will most likely take another month or so to script and test the new version.
Everything else is stuck in the pre-scripting phase or getting ready for beta test.
Half of the industry has issues with getting their visual novel approved on steam and MangaGamer will most likely have the same issues too once titles like Steam Prison, Hashihime of the Old Book Town and Lilycle Rainbow Stage!!! finish beta testing, so we'll see more MangaGamer store only titles until steam releases their new tools in the upcoming months.

While yuri games seem have sold okay in the MG store, they seem to thrive on Steam for one reason or another (Kindred Spirits compared full length Sono Hana in MG store only or even the one Steam Sono Hana game compared to the ones not on Steam). I think Lilycle will be able to demonstrate if this is a fluke or not. It won't sell as well because it won't have nearly as much coverage, but it should sell much more than the average MG game on Steam if yuri is really a big factor.

Retarnia was originally a Unity game, I didn't do anything to it except change the text and swapped out images. I'm aware that opening the menu is slow... but there's not much I can do about it. The entire menu UI (every single page and screen) is loaded in one massive scene with thousands of entities and components, all with nested references to other components all over the place. The whole thing gets loaded in one go (unloading all other scenes and content at the same time). And yeah, it takes a few seconds to load, which is terrible for something you're constantly accessing. I tried to salvage it by separating individual menus into their own prefabs or scenes, or even just avoiding unloading the thing from memory, but the design made it almost impossible to change without rewriting the whole thing. I'm not happy with how that turned out, but it's an issue that plagued the original just as bad.

I doubt they'll ever allow full-on porn on steam. There's the legal issues, payment processors, and potential backlash/controversy to consider. And all that effort would be for what? Aside from VNs the only games with actual porn in them are 3DCG shovelware. The "graphic" sexual content warning is probably going to be for stuff like full frontal nudity.

I don't see how it's any more convenient than having a well organised folder. I'd probably argue it's less convenient considering that you have to apply 18+ patches to everything.

Surprised to see other people who played Retarnia.
I ended up quitting and starting the game every 40 minutes or so, which would solve the slowdown issue for me.
Retarnia was mediocre at best, but since I paid like 15$ for it I can't really say I'm disappointed, at least the pricing was right.
We need more gameplay titles. I'm surprised nobody has picked up some older title from Gesen 18, Astronauts (Demonion has a popular hentai too), SofthouseChara and many more smaller ones.

It's not unusual for MG to release just one small eroge in a month. They released the Imopara 2 hardcopy, so that's something notable for August. The soonest anything is likely to be announced is 2 weeks from now, but I don't think they will. They could announce Hashihime, but they are likely to wait until they are sure that they can set something for preorder by the time they release that game. Tsui Yuri, Bitter Exclusion, and Hashihime would let them stall for three months, which might be enough time to get one of their bigger titles ready for release.

They seem to be padding out releases with smaller titles while waiting for the ''bigger ones'' to be release ready.

Damekoi has been scripting for a while, so they could be ready by the end of the year. For all we know, Suki Suki could have had its legal troubles fixed by then too. Both Lilycle and Steam Prison could also possibly release by the end of the year assuming no major scripting or beta issues, but I wouldn't be surprised if they prioritized Sengoku Rance. MG might consider Steam Prison a priority if they really want an otome release for this year. Bokuten happens to be a vague possibility, but I doubt it. It seems to be winter themed if nothing else.

That's likely true, but it's also important to note that MG's initial marketing schtick in that regard kinda backfired (along with spoiling one of the biggest twists -- the fuck were you thinking MG?) and it initially sold horribly. It wasn't until months and months of word-of-mouth that it eventually started getting some notoriety going.

I think its true reason for being so successful is that it simply has wide appeal, in spite of all appearances. It's a really simple and humble story that's easily understood but impactful to a lot of people regardless. And the really great OST doesn't hurt, either.

Quof's view on Farther than the Blue Sky.

>I gotta say, あの晴れわたる空より高く taking place on Magic Rocket Island at the Rocket School for Rocket Kids where every student is Big Into Rockets and joins Rocket Clubs and makes Rockets is pretty damn disappointing. I envisioned some crazy group of crazy rocket enthusiasts challenging the odds and accomplishing the impossible, but in truth it's like reality is literally bending around them to make it possible by altering the scenario into the maximally optimal situation for making a rocket... I dunno, there's just not a lot of excitement or daring in it for me anymore. I hope the scenario really emphasizes how hard rocket science is and whatnot to give it back that daring feeling. As of right now it just seems like the scenarists managed to make high schoolers building and subsequently launching a giant rocket seem boring and par for the course.

>I'm also not a big fan of how the game opens up with the end-game rocket launch, like c'mon you're gonna show me the finished rocket NOW instead of after hyping it up all game? How disappointing, well at least thats how it seems, this game has multiple routes/endings so they can't all end with a rocket which gives them opportunities to prove my pessimism wrong.
>I'm definitely dropping this game. It's kinda funny but the characters are pretty shallow, to quote an amazon reviewer

>That's definitely the feeling I get, the game is dripping with stale characterization and empty passion, well that's pretty much buzzwords that don't mean a lot so to put it concretely I'm not interested in the characters at all nor in their goal to make a rocket. I shouldn't have to put more work into buying an official western VN release than I do buying a gun. Needing to contact support, wait for a reply, make a paypal payment, go to MG's store and find the product + checkout to finally get the product is way more fucking work than I care to give to be a "Good person" when I could just open up a torrent site and immediately begin downloading the title from there.

I presume they have plenty of data to back up their licensing decisions. More niche communities just tend to be more dedicated, I suppose, which makes them more reliable profit, and a smaller publisher like MG wants to make sure it has a good few sure bets going even if the maximum possible payoff isn't always as big.

I don't know how it is for the fujo side of things, but the Hella Yuri curator is a big assist for SFW yuri titles, ensuring that pretty much everything that goes up on Steam immediately hits a big chunk of its most dedicated audience, whereas straight male-oriented stuff is a bigger group, which means that audience can more easily pick and choose to suit their exact preferences and might just leave a particular game in the dust.

I mean, I understand the logic and can't really blame them for chasing after more financial success, but it still hurts nonetheless. At least I know that ChuableSoft is free now. We might even get SukiSuki this year which would be great.

>> No.19631848

Girls bought plenty of the nukige and moege catalog as well, they've almost certainly always been a target for MG and now they're just big enough to capitalize on them specifically.

>> No.19631900

>>19631792
I think it is both. Niche and not niche.

Otome games would be selling terribly if they were all focused on abuse and rape and tentacles. Just imagine Euphoria with just guys eating poop and being fucked with strap ons and you might imagine a slightly smaller sales count.

Apart from that it is probably mostly the backlog syndrome. I have over 300 games in my backlog, my motivation to buy new ones are slim. Meanwhile many women are most likely not backlogged to hell, and will be buying those few titles they want when they are released.

>> No.19631918

I don't see why people are mad about the Yuri and Otome/BL announcements, they are genres that are heavily misrepresented in MangaGamer's current catalog of games.
As of right now the only two Yuri games are Sono Hanabira and Okujou no Yurirei-san. The only Boys Love game is Hadaka Shitsuji. And Otome only has Bocchi Musume x Produce Keikaku and Ozmafia!!. A total of five titles (not counting the Sono Hanabira sequels as standalones) out of their whole release catalog, so of course they would want to expand it, especially if these games sold well, which in most of these games' cases they did.

>> No.19631937

>>19631918
I'd say it's just that they're all being announced in close succession and those voices are combining with people who aren't happy with anything. Not to mention that inevitably fujos are an ultra-minority here.

Probably because people want certain other genres. Like loli... that is barely sweet sweat and nothing more. Dickgirl doesn't exist outside of gangrape genre. I think cross-dressing has about 2 titles?

These are all things that also needs expending.

>> No.19631990

I do agree that they should release an actual lolige (not an Ammolite one) to test to see if there is a market, and I'm pretty sure there is one considering how hyped Maitetsu was and how much outrage there was when they fucked it up (although that could just be people who don't care for the game joining in to make fun of Sekai Project).

It was only for the stuff they had already picked up that things were solved. Picking up new licences will be a lot harder especially if that ever company now owns them has had no previous business with the west. MG probably still has the highest chance though. They can say these were the terms of our other contracts and we would like something similar, but they might wait a bit to see how well Suki Suki does before they start negotiations. If Chuable titles are going to flop then it won't be worth it for them.

In the olden days, they probably were as bad as Sekai censorship wise, but nowadays, they at least go out of their way to release unofficial patches. Sekai's censorship has stopped for the most part too, but their censorship antics were way more recent including the still all ages Baldr Sky. Sekai's only issue isn't censorship anyways, so it's not shocking that some people are willing to tolerate JAST when funneling their hate towards Sekai.

they're also the only company that has a kind anonymous individual who unofficially posts restoration patches with really good photoshop edits to uncensor. They also don't fucking DMCA the restoration patches like some *cough frontwing cough* companies do. I most definitely don't agree with them censoring their products, but so long as this kind anonymous individual continues to properly restore the content I don't see an immediate issue. They used to be really bad yeah, but as of now they're the lesser of evils since you know that one way or another the content will be restored to the highest quality possible unlike MG/Sekai/Fakku who don't care if a product is censored or not. Or frontwing who threatens legal action against anyone who attempts to undo their censorship. We don't need to mention Nutaku, everybody knows Nutaku.
