rotate and crop a couple pixels off, that should fix the orientation. the rotation is probably done using the tags that are stripped when uploading to 4ch for your own safety

Orientation is stored in the EXIF meta data which gets stripped off once you upload the pic to 4chan. Get a program to remove the meta data tag values for you first and then use an image editing program to actually rotate the pictures.

Thanks! I have some shots that were taken by a friend, his good setups and skills have been seen in earlier threads but I've posted only my stuff here.

You can do it anon. If not too windy out, I'm sure you can have a nice outing with your dolls. Don't worry too much about equipment, I would recommend more just concentrating on getting a natural pose and angle. Aside from that, light is good and there's plenty of it outside during the day, I'm quite fond of the light from a fairly cloudy sky, or even overcast.

I'm sure your doll will look cute regardless though, it's hard not to with MDDs.

Well I heard when Reimu and Marisa were made Volks was still ironing out the DDS and the plastics they used were on the weaker side.
Pic is Reimu leg on right and a 2015 dated DDS on left. Some parts are beefier than others. Also Reimu's head is the hard type and I can't figure out how to remove her head since it's locked in somehow from inside the head (which I can't see since the head cap is so damn hard and hence hard to remove).

You'd need to reinforce the socket on the outer perimeter to maintain any amount of tightness. Glue will just split on the tension ending up in a loose socket. Adding tension by thickening the post on the hip side will just make it even wider.

I think there is beauty in women, especially 2D ones. I have spent time with 3D women, but enjoyed their personalities little at best. Some heads are harder to open than others. I have no problem with my Konomi (old style head) but my 03 was a bitch. Some DDs have taller headcaps than others, or just have a naturally tighter fit. I notched my 03 and my 01 way back, I did not need to notch my original 06 or Konomi. I did have a friend who notched a Marisa.

All the time. I make their wigs, so I'm always brushing them and keeping everything smooth and beautiful since I worked pretty hard on making the wig in the first place. There's nothing wrong with keeping your girls neat and pretty.

I can tell this is going to be a stupid question, so please forgive me. I mostly collect 1/6 dolls like Blythe and Pure Neemo. I've been looking at Mini Dollfie Dreams lately, though. They're very cute and a lot of my doll mooks come with sewing patterns for them. They also have so many cute clothing options available. You guys already know that though.

My question is, for those DDs with really cute and expressive faces, are those customs? Stuff like pic related. Would I buy said customs on Y! Auctions or do certain artists have like web stores or something? I'm just really confused on how to start my research on these dolls to begin with. The standard models listed on the Volks site aren't super appealing to me.

With Blythe dolls, no one in their right minds uses a straight out of the box Blythe because they're so ugly. There's a lot of carving that goes into their faces to make them cute or at least ugly but in a cute way. I was thinking maybe with mouths like pic related, that's not actually a head I could buy but the result of an artist carving/sculpting over a standard model, so I wanted to ask first. Price isn't really an issue for me. I have spent questionable amounts of money on dolls already, so what's a few hundred more?

Your best bet is probably Y! auctions for cute expressive DD heads. Modded DDH-01s like the one in your pic are popular with both customizers and bidders, so you'll have both a lot to choose from and likely a lot of competition in bidding. You can also commission an artist to to it and lots do mods for a fee but I'm personally not a fan of most of the english-speaking crowd (they're not the most professional bunch imo and to me I don't think I'd fancy having a head painted by someone I don't like, I'd rather know nothing or like the person). I know you might also find a few artists with webstores but they usually auction the heads off rather than sell for a set price anyway.

There are good ones out there, like WDS/Shiro, she was taking commissions as of about a year ago at least but I think she might be winding down. There's also a few really good ones that don't accept commissions but just sell on YJA or Dolpas. Pic related is my Rin Tohsaka by Ronronshuka (who's one of the latter artists).

I think it was tacky of Danny to repost it, but at the same time Volks is well known for hating all other dolls and while the translation Danny posted was too venomous, the underlying message was there that they consider Azone, SmartDoll and Obitsu as being copies of them. Mmm, the measurements are actually a bit different from DD to SmD and if the patterns are really form fitting there could be issues fitting if the wrong fabric is used. It'd be good to use with stretchier/more giving fabrics. Choo'll chimp out if he finds you're using it on/selling it for a DD, but it's neat and good for making a couple for yourself.

Lucky you. Dollfie and Dollfie Dream get the lion's share of clothing patterns. Memorize these names:

You can find newer issues in person at Kinokuniya. They are also available on your big 3 sites (AmiAmi, Hobby Link, Hobby Search <- My personal favorite).

Older issues have been scanned and you can find them on Pinterest, which you will need to make an account for. In the Pinterest search bar, look for "Dolly Dolly free copy" for example and just go from there. The patterns will be clearly labeled as being for a specific type of doll.

I do recommend actually purchasing one of these mooks, though. First, it's good to support the creators that keep the creativity in this hobby flowing. Second, they're such good quality! I love the cute photos of all of the dolls. It's not just a book of patterns. It's a book of new releases, cute dolls, great patterns, and fun tips. One example I really liked was if you mess up and accidentally sew something too small, you can close it up, stuff it, and turn it into a keychain. It also helps to have the patterns actual size, which is difficult to do with a printer just because you'll have to print a few test sheets before you figure out how your printer is trying to scale things + how the scanner tried to scale things.
