I wouldn't say level3 is disappointing. I understand there was an edm influence there but it was definitely not as drastic as cosmic explorer. Although I get it. I honestly think jpn was a bigger disappointment. That was where nakata started to fall. I don't understand how he managed to have all the album only songs sound like he was imitating everyone that was imitating him at the time. Listen to my color and kokoro no sports and try and tell me it dosen't sound like every other electro pop artist at the time.

I don't really know why I rank level3 higher than jpn. I just think level3 had a proper concept and still definitely felt closer to a perfume album. I don't hate jpn, I just see it that way. Idk, just listen to level3 and try and tell me your not instantly delved in to the world they created with it. Right when enter the sphere starts. Try and tell me all those cool sounds don't get you and your captivated tell the end. It's not number one for a reason, but it's also not in last place

(I'm not the anon you replied). I've always got the impression people tend to rate JPN relatively poorly because of a couple of factors. First of it was loaded with singles, so I can I only assume people got tired of listening to those singles again when the full album came about. Also a lot the lyrics were tied in to commericals (which for those who speak japanese I'm assuming cheapened the lyrical meaning). Also I always hear people didn't like the album mix versions of singles on JPN..I don't really agree with any of these arguments, mostly because I got into them around the time LEVEL3 was being released. Also I don't speak japanese, so lyrics don't matter too much to me. Also I prefer the album mixes, especially Laser Beam. Am I missing anything?

Yeah JPN was the downfall for their album song quality other than the amazing A/B-Side singles. I'd still rank JPN higher than level3 just because the quality of the singles are better than level3's even though level3 has better album songs

level3 better album songs but worse singles and when singles are the meat and potatoes of every post-Triangle album I think JPN edges out.

Y'all are still mad about no hurly burly. I understand that they promoted the hell out of that song, so it might have been upsetting for fans when it wasn't on the album. It is a fun song. Even if it has always sounded like it had all that 2010-2012 David guetta influence. I would've preferred they switched out mirai no museum for hurly burly. Even point fits in better than mirai. I liked Point. I remember I thought it was going to be the A-Side since they came out with the Kirin CFs for it right after Spring of Life in like February 2013.

I still like it but you have to keep in mind after like Triangle all of their albums were designed around being performed at concerts instead of just being quality on their own so I was expecting amazing choreography for Point at LEVEL3 live. Not so much.

Hurly Burly had some of their best choreography ever. It's a huge disappointment and why I rank Level3's concert very low.

Slightly off topic, but I used to more of a contrarian back in the day, and I would shun a lot of top 40 crap, including J-Pop stuff (I think a lot of us are like this when we are younger). These days I'm a lot more accepting and try to look mostly for positives. Heck I even listen to K-Pop now (even some boy band songs). Obviously its not 'high art' but K-Pop has its place.

Anyway I'm gonna cut short my rant and just say, if your not a fan the future bass stuff (which is fine) just try to go it into the new album with a positive mind state when listening to it. See what you can get out of the song if anything. Of course its no longer the golden days of perfume anymore. Whats the point in being bitter about it. Things change. You can't have everything your own way. Okay Im satrting to say some real obvious shit now so I'll just leave it there.

I always seem to forget hurly burlys choreography. Yuka is amazing, her attitude, and she got to be in the middle so much. The outfits were great too even a~chans I found good, even though her shoulder pad things are there but they grow on you. Yeah, great memories

I use to love that type of stuff so much too. The two words that would pop into my mind when thinking of that kind of music was beautiful, Asia. I also loved seventh heaven for the same reason. Just beautiful, melody and chord progressions. Stuff that makes you wanna cry. I got real into future bass a little before I found perfume and thought I had finally found my favorite music ever (until I found nakata) Which is why it bugs me so much, and I'm getting tired of saying this but what really bugs me is that nakata is just completely trying to copy and become these trends. He's not really adding anything that makes it his own. Perfume is just another asian group now. Literally, if they think this is how their going to finally break into the west, their doing the exact opposite. They've basically camouflaged themselves. They don't stand out anymore. Their like every other group. Remember when nakata took electro and techno pop and made it his own thing. It all seemed to fit like a glove for him. And look at future bass, it also seems like it would fit perfectly with him. But he chose the most generic route to it. Giving in to the trend and not really being that creative. I know this is going to sound crazy but, I think if you wanna could have been something if it was les generic and more inclined to nakata's musical style. That's literally the only single from this era that still felt like perfume. I know people who's standards as high as mine are going to enjoy the album. But, another thing, you have people who have been following you for more than 10 years, supporting you, and this is the best you can give them. Sure, they don't owe us anything and we're thankful for everything they've done, but you should be considered to your fans, to yourselves as artist. It's a shame someone as talented as nakata has chosen this path. It's a shame for all of them really. Idk, I can't enjoy this album

Fucking this. Nakata just seems to want to DJ and make generic garbage. I used to blame KPP for tying up his production time between Capsule, Perfume and Kyary Pamyu Pamyu but now it just feels like becoming a basic bitch EDM DJ was his destiny all along.

What do you mean what those albums could have been? I think the only one that sounded unfinished at some points was sugarless girl. Honestly, those albums paved the way for a lot of EDM producers, some of them actually have gone off from EDM to become more proper artist. I'd post their names but it's obvious of the two I'm talking about and you guys might not like me posting artist other than perfume. A lot of the electro sound we got in 2010 - 2013 somewhat came from MORE! MORE! MORE! Mainly jumper, I think. Like that or hate that, that's somewhat how it went down.

One of the things everyone always always mentions when talking about nakata's music are his chord progressions. And the progression in eternity is amazing. It's got this very stylish, jazzy, groove. One of the big reasons I fell in love with his music. His unique chord progressions. He's got a great sense of melody there too. Very catchy, poppy. And toshikos autotune vocals. It may sound repetitive but the thing that keeps you engaged is he changes toshikos melody bit by bit throughout the song and that's what really keeps it moving. The percussion drum grooves are great too. And the production on that song is my fucking shit. It's tight, clean, punchy, full. All the sounds sound great the chord stabs, the bass(that bass is so groovy), the drums, everything. That song just makes me wanna jump and dance and it's one of my favorite things in the world.

Love the world is definitely one of their best singles I love everything about it the outfits, the covers, edge, the whole aesthetic, the mv, the choreo.

Genuinly like it. I liked the song to begin with. Not great song but pretty okay. Im not gonna lie, it hit me in the feels, when perfume see the little kids (who are reminiscent of their past selves) and she gives the key (to success I guess). well when I was living in a hostel, I pretty much done nothing and my motivation was a working internet connection, I had a GF at the time and I honestly don't know what state of mind I would have been in back then if I didn't but eventually even that wasn't enough and while I'm not prone to depression, at that point I felt depressed and it took a massive toll on my relationship at the time, my gf at the time didn't help either, despite me never telling her I was depressed, she saw my change in personality and pretty much pulled away from me, I broke up with her and we got back together 8 months later which was a dumb fucking idea but honestly I'm getting off point here, my point is when I moved out of the hostel I started to learn Japanese, I started working out and at that time I started trying to be a stand up comedian litrually didn't go on stage once and I never mention it to anyone during that period was the exact moment when my causal enjoyment of perfume after a year of listening to them developped inot the obsession it was today, for an entire year I didn't watch a single interview of them and only really watched their music videos (again getting way off topic here). during that time my best friend and flatmate at the time and my girlfriend both left me and despite that I didn't get depressed, because I though myself into those things I was doing and despite living alone in a 2 bedroom flat, It was actually the happiest period of my life.

eventually, I got a shitty retail job and that sapped the energy from me but when I see people depressed and down, other than trying to console them I always try to prescribe them with what helped me.

honestly, my progress was so slow and the people around me always made way more progress on the things they pursued.

try this one, in both cases I just lowered the pitch and temp and then chopped up the ending to make it sound more vaporwave without actually editing the entire thing.

Pitch it down by two I think it was. Nocchi instantly sounds more diva-ish. It's so good. And then stretch it down till the drums sound very very stretched, super fucken slow, the drums will really slam and parts of the autotune are nonsensical but still musical. I've done it on my laptop and I like it a lot but have no way of uploading it. If you do it right the way it's in my head, it will really fuck you up. It becomes so emotional. Just a thought

next is mental stimulation, music production is a must, start small even if you have a ton of experience, because setting your targets low and achieving still makes you feel accomplished and will get the ball rolling, make a little ditty that could be used in an intermission slide of something or maybe a jingle that might be used for an advert or maybe for a youtube video.

sharing your progress with the people around you also helps a lot in terms of motivation and at the early stages, motivation is a resource you need to learn to manage, overworking yourself is the fasted way to drain it before you make enough progress.

Literally doing a tiny thing productive with your day will make you feel better, that is why both you and I feel good when we contribute to perfume gen, it's not productive but it makes is feel just a little bit productive. take that energy and put it into just a tiny task in the field you want to pursue.

seeing as music is more creative than academic you also need to take up something that will work out that part of you brain, learning a language or taking up logic puzzles will help with that, even a crossword stimulates your brain and helps develop the logical part of your brain, this is important because a healthy balance between logic and emotion is a good way to pull yourself out of the melancholy you're currently in without shutting off emotions.

in terms of redeveloping your social skills. leave that for later. I know it's easy to think, whats the point of this when I can't integrate with society, but that insecurity comes from an unhealthy self-hatred, just do the three things above for three weeks and that feeling will begin to go away. do it for 6 months and you'll probably be ready to reintegrate yourself. this works well with language learning because it gives you the motive to meet new people, I met an ex at a Japanese meet at one of the most insecure periods of my life. I didn't even go there to date, just to get a little social interaction and practice Japanese.

It's like, well this sound is clogging up this other sound, how do I fix this. Or this sound isn't sticking out as much as it should, is there something I can change in it to make it stick out more. That sounds like logical puzzles to me. Which is why I love it. You really feel the need to learn not just writing music but how sound works and what you can do with it. A lot of people would probably look at my computer screen and say "what is this chemistry rocket science shit" but I've gotten use to it and know more about it than the average person that it feels more comfortable to me.
