I'm planning to go to Japan in about a year. I'm not a huge weeb, but I watch anime every now and then. I know a lot of japanese tourist culture is focused around a lot of stuff like that, so i want to be prepared when i go. What anime would y'all recommend i watch to get an idea of what i'm in for and to gain a better appreciation for the setting and culture?

Watching anime to appreciate Japan and its culture ahead of time for when you actually get there is a terrible idea. You should watch programs like Japanology that introduces you to all aspects of Japanese culture and its infrastructure and industry, other youtube channels like Only In Japan which focuses almost entirely on touristy things and also video experiences from tourists themselves.
