Congrats but that level of achievement doesn't warrant that statement. No one said you need talent for LNBs. As there is no direct competition there you can obviously make up for it and achieve the same result with more work. If there is no practical cap on results then you have people working much harder than others and perpetually achieving less.

That's pretty bad, but when I started out I also tried switching to a gamepad and that's what made the game comfortable enough for me to play longer and get my first clears. I think it's possible to play as well with a controller as you could with a keyboard. The biggest problem is finding a good PC controller, which is very hard nowadays. I'm guessing a Playstation controller or Saturn (if you can find or build one) are your best bets.

To some extent I feel your pain, but resetting that much doesn't make for good practice. I remember having captured Scarlet Meister and Scarlet Gensokyo in Hard mode but the Lunatic version of Scarlet Gensokyo is probably one of the biggest bullshits I've seen in Touhou. First pick a game that has spell practice and focus on that (IN and HSiFS are good). Now start doing no reset runs for practice. After few runs you should make a note of which parts/spellcards you are having problems with and either bomb through them or practice them in spell practice until you can capture them consistently.
If you are dying without having used all your bombs then you are not bombing enough, don't try to save them, even just spamming all of them as soon as you get them is better than saving them.
Also make sure you use the item pickup line as often as possible so you can maximize the amount of lives you get.

Definitely use vpatch. Not only is the input lag fix useful, you can also use it to pixel-double the window, so you can play at a reasonable size without any distortion.
As for shot type, Needle Reimu is probably better for survival, because she gets 3 bombs per life and Mari only gets 2.

Kinda hate ReimuB's focused bomb but I'll try her again. I swapped to Marisa because I had trouble hitting 800 point items with Reimu by Stage 6.

Not sure how to do that pixel doubling thing though, because nothing in the .ini looks like a toggle for that.

>[Window]
>AskWindowMode = 0
>enabled = 1
>X = 300
>Y = 20
>Width = 1280
>Height = 960
You can scale to arbitrary sizes, but of course it will be distorted unless you choose an integer multiple of the original size (640x480). The X and Y options set the location of the top-left corner of the window.
And don't put too much stock in my recommendation of Reimu, it sounds like you're doing alright with Mari already.

Slightly pedantic on my end but I'm pretty sure that leaves you with only 3 options (with 0x0 being one of them) unless you have a 4k monitor. Any 4:3 ratio should have no distortion.

No aspect ratio distortion, true, but you also have to account for the resampling. Like how do you expect new players to keep rank in mind at all, or to make any meaningful use out of the deathbomb frames getting lower on each use information? I do just from skimming through the video, he's a fag who can't even pronounce Japanese right and probably just made it to hear himself talk and pretend he's cool.
A much better way to do a tutorial for new players would be to annotate (or if one really must, talk over) a replay, going over techniques and tips only as they become relevant and you can see them in action.

Are you fucks memeing out of your asses or is this actually a thing? Touhou isn't a puzzle game. It's about the execution, not trial and erroring to find a route, at least not at these early levels. Sure you could say that memo makes you more reliant on copying strategies instead of being creative and/or improving your mechanical skill but it's no more "cheating" than watching a video guide on anything before trying it yourself.

Obviously. Learn by playing and watching your own replays. Looking at someone else's replay is looking at someones else's paper with the answers written all over it.
The way I see it, it's only fine to look and learn at other's replays when you all ready 1cc by your own efforts. There is no one stopping you from looking online, but at least 1cc normal by your own efforts anon. It's not hard.

This is the exact point I'm trying to refute. When you look at someone's paper and see the answers, all you have to do is write it down, which is not hard. When you watch a replay, you still have to go through the re-enactment of the movements you memorized yourself. If you want to use a testtaking metaphor, it's more like watching a teacher go through an example in class then doing a very similar problem but with the numbers changed up (imagine this as the RNG making every run slightly different). Sure, it encourages plug and chug instead of testing your real understanding of the topic, but it's not "cheating".

What, because the mechanics are more forgiving than the average game, so it will create bad habits? I've seen this argument before, but I think it's ridiculous. It's not as though new players learn how to play Touhou once and then never grow or develop their skill. And whichever game you pick to play first, you're going to have to learn new mechanics when you switch to another one anyway, because they're all different. So why would it not be better for total newbies to start on a game with some training wheels to develop basic skills and strategies, then learn to deal with other games' harsher mechanics once they have some success under their belt? In other words, why not do what the games themselves do, start easy then ramp up the difficulty?

Does anyone have a touhou-experience regaining experience?
I broke my radius bone in an accident one month ago and the gypsum was removed only a couple of days back. Now I have to redevelop atrophied muscles, which sadly includes touhou.
I keep dying on patterns I used to conciser easy. My mind still goes like «This doesn't look hard, there are a lot of wide gaps here and there» but the expectations don't meet reality anymore and it feels weird. Hits the motivation strongly as well as I can't even repeat walking through the «easy» patterns.
On the other hand there are patterns that just require smart positioning and I go through them as I used to. So the things go either too brutal or too boring.

Do you try to go through old 1cc's slowly repeating the way you got there? Or rush straight into stuff you considered hard-but-not-impossible and grind them until you can pass them again?

I unlocked HSiFS extra today and cleared it within the span of four hours, I am so proud of myself. Usually clearing extra takes weeks for me.

Maybe 15 made me a man and ZUN was right all along.

It's amazing how much easier EoSD became once I started using the vpatch thing. Took me this long to get my 2nd 1cc in it.

Do the other games which have vpatch benefit as much from it?

>hoping I can get a lunatic 1cc sometime soon
It's good to have a goal, but don't get too set on "soon".
Anyway, before that, you should knock out some Extra stages. If you've cleared 8 on hard, I guarantee you can do at least 6, 7 (Phantasm), 10, and 16 right now, probably 13 as well. Honestly, you should have done Phantasm while you were still in the flow from the Extra, they're basically the same, but either way it won't take you too much practice.

>> No.19458046

>>19458008
Trust me I would've done Phantasm by now but getting to 60 capped spell cards is harder than I thought and will probably take more effort than that stage itself

I will definitely try more extras, but after trying the ones for 12 (which I got close on) and 15 I was just discouraged. But I will try working on those before I do more hard modes

You know Easy mode counts, right?
>after trying the ones for 12 (which I got close on) and 15 I was just discouraged
I would be, too, after trying the two most evil ones. In fact, I've barely played any Touhou for months after getting crushed by Koishi, so I totally understand.

Already have almost all the ones for easy/normal, the issue now is getting hard or lunatic spells, plus I've not capped most of them for extra

By the way, in the spell card list I noticed there is a 4th hidden spell after each set of spell cards, after the lunatic one even. How do you unlock those?

I didn't intentionally grace at all when I beat the extra with Reisen. I just always kept the shield on no matter what and many of Hecatias spellcards are really easy even with the huge hitbox so you can save some bombs there.
