guise, serious question - how did you learn moonspeak?

i mean i can't make head or tails out of katakana even, unlike english letters which are similar to russian letters and therfore produced valid sounds for me, katakana bits are unreadable. how do you even begin to read jap?

I've learned through katakana and hiragana writing. Then reading books about grammar. Then reading manga with furigana. Then using the google Translate app image translating function to read manga without furigana.
My biggest regret was trying to learn Kanji out of context. Unless you find that kanji in a sentence or in a compounded word, you will forget all about it on the very next day.
I know it costs money, but the Midori dictionary app was a game changer. It takes every word/sentence and analyses/breaks it down to its essential components.
