As Shinki resides within her own realm of Makai, she would not be a lifeform borne of Gaia or Alaya, and Shiki could not see her "lines", should she even have them.

A Noble Phantasm is the symbol of a heroic spirit's identity and power. For a heroic spirit like King Arthur, that symbol is Excalibur. A Broken Phantasm is what occurs when a Noble Phantasm is forcibly altered in shape or ability somehow, rendering it unstable and only usable once before it explodes with massive, devastating force. However, as heroic spirits only have the one Noble Phantasm, they refrain from doing this.

Due to the fact that they can recreate Noble Phantasms endlessly, though, Archer has shown that he can create several Noble Phantasms and convert them into arrows, essentially launching fast, powerful mini-nukes of magical energy. His conversion of the sword Hrunting, for example, allows the 'arrow' to home in on a target and constantly chase it so long as Archer keeps them within his sight, even if the arrow is deflected or blocked. The arrow is also capable of passing through any obstacle to reach its true aim.

Not so much that as a regular heroic spirit is someone who becomes a part of the Throne by their own power and their legend. A Counter Guardian is a heroic spirit who was granted power from the 'World', Alaya, in exchange for their services as a heroic spirit in the afterlife.

The key difference here is that Counter Guardians are summoned when mankind faces potential extinction, whereas heroic spirits are capable of being summoned as forces of nature of some sort, whether it be to fight in battle temporarily, or to be granted some sort of power associated with that heroic spirit.

True Magic, or just simply 'magic' is different from what everyone else usually is seen casting. For example, what Magi such as Tohsaka Rin, the participants of the Grail War and so forth, use is called 'Magecraft.'

Magic is a miracle other than Magecraft, which is the final achievement of a magus, and is the ability to make possible something that is impossible to realize in the current era. If it is possible to realize "magic" regardless of time and fund, then the "result" isn't magic.

Back when civilization was young, most of the magi were magicians, but only five are left now. Or rather, only four magicians are still alive: the magician who used what is called the First Magic has died already. Of the remaining four, two are still unclear, but two are frequently spotted as they travel around - although they are more of a nuisance to the others.

In short, Magi use Magecraft, which is the science of magic, whereas Magicians use Magic which is capable of performing miracles.

Well, for one, Rin shares a bloodline relation to Zelretch, the Magician who uses the Second Magic, and Shirou is capable of performing a Reality Marble which is a form of True Magic also. Also, the sword could only be used by Rin due to her relation to Zelretch.

So it's not something just about anyone can do, especially since despite Shirou's Reality Marble, he is still a Magus, a practitioner of Magecraft and not True Magic. The same goes for Rin.

Fair enough. I was just trying to keep it in simple terms since Shirou isn't a Magician either and I didn't want people getting their wires crossed.

No, Shirou is not a Magus. Not truly. That'd be because neither him nor his father follow the way of the Magi, and are thus referred to as heretics and simply 'users' of Magic. Hehe, yeah. That ended up as a discussion of infinite time-lines and predestination paradox.

>> No.1916614

Didn't this thread start off rather powerlevels'y and then simply evolve into a discussion of what could or could not affect ORT, and then a discussion of magic in the Nasuverse?

So? I just said I preferred Ithaqua as a Great Old One over Cthulhu. Wasn't bringing powerlevels into it.

Yeah.. I figured that's what you were going for. To be honest, I get the feeling most Shiki fans are really like that, thinking he can kill everything or something.

Dismissing the fact that you got the separate Shikis mixed up: Assuming he can kill everything and anyone is just outright silly, regardless of how you want to look at it. If that were the case, he might as well be Type-Earth by now.

I don't think any human has the capacity to become that.

So if Counter Guardians and Servants are basically the same thing, can Gil be used as a counter guardian by Alaya if ORT decided to get off it ass and do something or is Alaya stuck with Archer?

Repeating it again: Counter Guardians are humans who recieved power from Alaya during their lifetimes to achieve impossible feats and become heroic spirits that are part of the Counter Force after their death. Regular heroic spirits such as Gilgamesh, Cuchulain, Heracles and the like are all heroes who forged their legends with their own power and ascended to semi-godlike status in the afterlife as heroic spirits.

I didn't get them mixed up, I specified `R. Shiki' because of how similar their powers are. He can kill anything with the Gaian concept of death.

Well, obviously, Anonymous would be Type-Earth. A collective Hivemind much like Assassin, capable of manifesting itself and being transcendent due to the fact that as a Hive entity, it has no singular, true body to attack.

So hey what's the deal with the TYPES
I looked over the wiki a bit and it seems like they got sent down to Earth to spite-kill humans for Gaia after they killed the world, but doesn't that happen a thousand years after all the other Nasu works? If so, what's ORT doing on the list of Dead Apostles? Shouldn't he not even exist by that point?

ORT messed up and appeared a few years earlier. Angel Notes will be a VN where you get to bone the Types, Type-Venus is the main heroine. As mentioned ORT is klutzy, Saturn is the energetic type, Mars is tsundere, Pluto is lonely with no one in her vicinity save identical twins Neptune and Uranus to support her.
