To be fair, this is only a super-small regional event they were trying to put together, the main events like Friends Area and Japariket are doing fine and they're still able to put together some of the larger regional one. Once a series reaches a certain level of popularity it can host dedicated events, and the next level of popularity beyond that is being able to host regional events, followed by themed events (like this absurd 120-circle Mutsuki-class only Kancolle event.)

KF is still large enough to put up a regional showing, it's just no longer a rising star contender for "next big thing" like Kancolle or, well, much of anything. It's more of an expectation gap than a truly dead series.

I've never seen a sales estimate this high. Also, they were half-price, which you can't not ignore when comparing raw sales numbers.

TV Tokyo's decision to air a children's cartoon over breaking news is not really any sort of quantifiable measure of a show's popularity. The fact that a show they wanted to give a morning slot was later given a morning slot again is also not a sign that it's "bigger than Kancolle." In terms of raw collaboration count it's not clear that Kemono Friends comes out ahead either, and in terms of zoo visitor count if you have numbers I'd be glad to hear them.

The guidebooks (and merch, and everything else) only sold out early on. By the time they published the 200,000 estimate, production had been ramped up to match demand. Also, if the first two books sold 200,000, and there's six books, then a conservative sales estimate is 600,000. I've never seen anyone claim or suggest that over a million guidebooks were sold.

I see about 110,000 anime BD/DVDs marked for Kancolle 2015 but you know as well as I do that the Kancolle anime was widely heralded as one of the worst anime ever created. As an anime - yes, of course, Kemono Friends blows Kancolle out of the water a thousand times over. That's about as unfair as comparing Kancolle the game to Kemono Friends the game. But in the "fair" battlefield of fan work, Kemono Friends was still much smaller when it was torpedoed.

Progress is at a constant, exciting pace. I think recently he showed combat was similar to Kingdom Hearts and that there's also plans for a VR mode where you can walk around and interact with Friends. It's also going to be free, apparently. NABY is a good Friend.

Well Sunlight Creation was just less than 4 weeks ago at Big Sight, I'd imagine all the Friends stuff was already sold there.

In this pic, line on the left was for Sunlight Creation, which was a dojin event for everything else than touhou (boats, chink boats, friends, tanks, etc.). Right line was for Reitaisai.

They're called Chobirume Petit but I don't know anything more. I usually win them off that Toreba app but sometimes I import them from Rakuten/Amazon/Ebay when I miss them.

I use MyFigureCollection, but the series listings are missing some and are incomplete. The Hippo set isn't even up, but it should come out within the next week. The reason I miss out sometimes is because I too have no way to reliably track release dates and new sets.

Not a real update, but last week somebody once again alluded to The Incident at Kadokawa's general shareholder meeting and got the same general answer but this time at some of the highest levels of the company. The CEO quote is second-hand from Twitter but the director quote is direct. What it means I couldn't tell you.

And really I'm torn on Mine for the same reason, but it's mainly so aggravating because... he MADE it as a multimedia, multiple creator franchise. He let it get out there. It FAILED. And when it succeeds, despite a lot of reverence still going his way it seems like he got soured by the reception/didn't like how the series portrayed the Friends (admittedly, KF the anime is rather dark while everything else... well, can be, but really isn't). If you make it multi media though, you open the floor to different interpretations. It's just bullshit. He could've had his cake and ate it too. Instead, he shat on the cake.

I think that's part of why the anime was so successful. Its portrayal of animal girls as animals first was done better than in either the manga or the mobile game due solely that there was no humanity for them to learn from and grow out of their animalness as a result. Sure there's Kaban, but she isn't trying to raise any of the Friends in any sort of manner and instead all the Friends learn from her of their own volition (taking mainly whatever little tidbits that interest them the most, mind you, like cooking and buses). I also believe that because so much of the park is in the state of disrepair it's in, it allows for theorycrafting and speculation from the audience, promoting interaction between fans to share ideas and discussion as a result, which is less likely to happen if we know the circumstances behind everything in the setting like in the game or manga.

You can't appreciate diabetes-inducing sweetness that the Friends provide without something to counterbalance it, which is what the interactions with the Ceruleans provides.

I do find it interesting that the Ceruleans share so much in common with Friends and yet they're the ones being reviled. It would've been really interesting to get a better look at how the food web of an ecosystem changes with the introduction of Sandstar radically altering the geography and animals of an area. The Friends are born from Sandstar, they eat non-Sandstar material, are eaten by Ceruleans, and the Ceruleans are popped and explode in shimmering puffs of purified Sandstar, so it really isn't like the Ceruleans are unnecessary, as it seemed like they serve as a pseudo-predator role for every environment, with Friends as their nutritional source.

There is no point in really thinking about it anymore since I doubt they're ever gonna expand on it like they did with the guidebooks, so whatever.

At least Nexon had a story and a pretty good one compared to the entirely plotless "games" of late.
Hell you can even call it deep to some point. Parts of it were reimagined in anime and other parts can still be references in fan creations.
And that's just the main plot, there were many sidequests. No way it could be bad story-wise, perhaps the gacha-ridden gameplay was its undoing.

there will probably be a s2 at some point, but there isn't a chance in hell Tatsuki's coming back, so the chances that it will live up to or even build off of s1 are ludicrously small and the chances that it will be horribly botched are high.

Given that, what studio would be the most likeliest to get their hands on making a new Kemono Friends anime (as I really, really doubt they'll ever continue Kaban, Serval and Lucky Beast's story unless they want to get lynched by a horde of salty Chinese, Korean, and Japanese people)? Even then, given the controversy with the original anime I doubt many studios would be willing to try their hands on making a KF anime to begin with in fear of backlash.

Friends are already exceptionally strong so guns would be less effective than their own horns/claws with the exception of Kaban and some other weaker Friends. Though I've been wondering, since humans are on average larger than many, many other animals, wouldn't a human Friend be really strong too?
