They don't have any tomatoes there so they must import it right? So how much does it cost? I've heard it's 10 bucks pr. kilo.

Serious answer, for a bit.

In the Japanese grocery stores I found a wider array of produce than in equivalent-sized ones in the US. The quality of the produce was better, and it was fresher. I am sure it wasn't all pesticide free or anything, but I think they actually wait until the fruit and vegetables are ripe before picking them (we pick 'em green. It tastes like shit, but it keeps longer.) Their milk tastes more like milk also, (most of it's pasteurized (though you can find unpasteurized if you look hard) but they use a hotter, shorter-duration process that damages the milk less.

They had high fructose corn syrup in damn near everything, though. :/

Tomatos are illegal in Japan, though, and who would eat them? They're part of the nightshade family you know.

My local supermarkets in Japan sold them for 200 yen a box. 4 in a box.
