How does one start out with Umineko? I checked /rs/ and I do not know what to download. I thought it was just a vn but there is a manga and a anime adaption too.

It's great but they're mixing up Hempel's Raven and simple contraposition. Ronove's cookie boxes and the 19th person thing are contrapositions because they pertain to absolutes, but Hempel's raven is actually about how contraposition only works with absolutes, not contraposition itself. But it still makes sense and I guess Hempel's raven makes for a more badass tactic name, so I guess it's alright

No, you see, the thing Hempel actually was pointing out with his paradox is that the premise is flawed. Finding a black raven doesn't prove all ravens are black by the rules of elementary logic, it's only circumstantial evidence that the hypothesis may be true. Thus the contrapositive of the green apple also doesn't prove anything, it's just also circumstantial evidence that the hypothesis may be true. That's what Hempel pointed out, that you can't use elementary logic constructs like contraposition for stuff like that, because those constructs are designed with absolute truths in mind.

eg for the ravens to prove all ravens are black, you have to find all ravens and observe they're all black, OR contrapose it and have to find all non-black things in the world and observe none ofthem is a raven. Just finding one of each, as Hempel pointed out, isn't proof, only evidence that it may be true.

Eva's motivation is so fucking stupid. The only reason she won't stay in the kitchen is because she's jealous of her brother, and the reason she's jealous of her brother is because he and her father told her to go back to the kitchen. That doesn't make a bit of sense. Except then she gets married, stays at home, and ended up being very happy with it, meaning her father and brother actually did want the best for her. Yet she still insists on holding an asinine grudge. If anything, she's proven them right, and shown first hand how dangerous it is when women are too motivated.

We don't know for sure yet. While Battler has to shock-experience all the bitter thing over a smaller period of time, Rika's fate was more of a slow but tormenting poison. Let's not forget the fact that Battler always recieves a new ray of light that keeps pushing him forward, while Rika can spend years without finding any means of fighting.

Time is the most valid argument here: Untill Battler will be forced to experience this kind of "torture" for a longer period of time, I wouldn't be so hasty with comparing their situations.

Battler dies multiple times while the boards are reset- which may take days to years to occur, then he has to watch his families die over and over again, and as in ep3 repeatedly brutal death. He can't interact with them-can't save them and can only use their death to strike back at the witch. He gets lied to and betrayed and has no ally to encourage him except for Bern's pawn who my not be able to return for ep5.

That may had applied for the first times she experienced the loop: She probably thanked Hanyuu a lot and stuff. But after only times, save hundred, it should be quite obvious to her that she is powerless, and that her friends will die miserably every time. She even clearly stated in the last arcs that she's sick of the same events occuring every time, and the only reason she keeps on "tormenting herself" is because Hanyuu's stubborn and will not let go of the loop.

And as I've already stated: Being able to interact with her environment doesn't change anything, except that it probably increases the feeling of guilt over Rika's inability to actually help.

Even if it takes days, it's something that happens and that Battler can grow accustomed to. The in-game Battler is somehow synchronized with meta Battler, so an interaction IS possible to some abstract extent. And Battler's primary goal is, unlike Rika, not to save everyone.

You know... considering that Beato is being manipulated by Lambda, I think we should take most of what she says and does with a grain of salt. Regardless of what was an act or not in the rest of the episode, Beato threw the game at the last moment on purpose, probably because either she didn't want to decieve Battler in such a way, or she simply didn't want the game to end. Regardless, that was why Lambda felt the need to threaten her a bit and put her back in line. Also, I'm curious what the true form she didn't want Battler to see was. Lambda wants Bern to surrender, not just lose. Even if Battler and Bern lose a game, unless they totally surrender to defeat the game just repeats. Even if Beato had lost the game in Ep3, if she didn't revert back to her old habits, the game between her and Battler would have become fairly boring, or maybe even ground to a halt. If that happened Bern would probably lose interest, so Beato HAD to either win with Battler's concession of defeat, or scare him off like she did and drag things out for another round. The fact she warned Battler off at the end seems significant.

Uh, I'm pretty sure that even if Bern isnt too serious about it, 34 wants to get back at Bern for beating her before. Bern is currently considered the most powerful witch, a position 34 held until recently. If she can beat Bern, even by proxy, I think she'd get her old title back. Though you are probably correct that neither give much consideration to Beatrice. For Bern she's just an amusing distraction, to 34 as a useful tool.
