What is it wtih those "stains" of colours in third panels? (dark grayish blue covering the wall in the first one and green leaking onto the book in the second) Is it supposed to be like this? And since I am writing this already, the colour you used for the sky in the first panel doesn't really match the surroundings if you ask me. It looks more like someone put a wall there. I'd suggest making it some shade of light gray. I feel it'd fit in with the rest of the panel and not seem weird, as that's a common colour of the sky in winter.

Those are blank spots I don't know how to color in the original. That's my main issue when coloring since I don't know how to fill them but I can't just leave them blank so I use a simple background color.

How exactly do you go about using English SFX for manga? Particularly for porn.
The Japanese seem to have onomatopoeia for every small action but I have no idea how to translate them outside of directly romanising the syllables. Certain actions have easy enough English SFX but I'm not sure people would like seeing *schlop* and *spurt* a dozen times every page.

>> No.18973527

>>18973230
Why would you need to translate the sound effects?
>directly romanising the syllables
There's nothing wrong with that. They're just sounds, not meaningful words. "Bang", "boom", "ban", they're all just used to invoke an image based on sound. Translating sfx would just be going "splat splosh slosh squish" a bunch.

>but I'm not sure people would like seeing *schlop* and *spurt* a dozen times every page.
It's all the same shit if you can read Japanese, I'm sure you realize yourself. Personally, I'd just leave them. Why do you need SFX translated? Is the jackoff audience one that hates seeing any Japanese anywhere in a Japanese work?

>> No.18973629

>>18973527
The thing is, it's not for a translation, it's for a doujinshi I've been drawing myself. Things like crashes and booms are easy enough, but more subtle actions often stump me.
Ultimately, I don't think people really pay all that much attention to SFX but without them certain pages look somewhat empty and barren.

If you're drawing an English doujinshi for an English audience, just don't put in so many sound effects because English doesn't... well no, but because people don't expect that many sound effects here. It's not really fair to say English doesn't do it because comic books do.

>but without them certain pages look somewhat empty and barren.
Are you not using enough motion lines or not drawing the backgrounds or making them full pages instead of just smaller panels? But if you do add them, just don't think too much about them. Like I said before they're just sounds, so just choose a sound that sounds nice to read/say/hear a lot. Squicka squicka squicka paf paf paf kasplut kasplut

Also, I'm incredibly sorry, but it seems that I simply don't want to fulfill my own promises and finish the Valentine pic despite it being about 80% done. Looks like I subconsciously realize how much I fucked up with almost everything there. I'll try to bring myself to do it in the next two days, but as I have to buy and pack things up for my trip, celebrate the Victory Day as customary, bathe twice, and do a big cleanup—all in the remaining two and a half days—I'll post it as-is on twitter only if I can't finish it until 10th.

>If the girls just goof off all the time, how do they get anything done?
They don't! The Ashuras (in this setting, they're more akin to personification of the forces of nature) used to watch over and guide the lesser folks, and in turn they were governed by the Heavens, but one day the Ashuras just packed up and left. Your job as the player will be to guide these folks and advance their society, because otherwise they will just eat and play around all day and never progress past their mudhuts and straw nests.

>Why do they wear clothes if there aren't any boys around?
It's really cold out there!

>Is is a turn based simulator or an RTS/Populous type game?
Neither! It's a board game, as in those physical cardboard cutouts and stuff! I mean, technically you can play it over Tabletop Simulator or Roll20 etc digitally, but it is very much a board game with lots and lots of dice rolling.

The core gameplay is basically Ameritrash-style adventure RPG, but with a side of resource management and worker placement.

You can probably tell I'm just winging stuff, lol. Those are doubled in size so they're a bit blurred and stuff, but it's not like they were much better in their original size. I think it's pretty clear I have no idea what I'm doing!

I tried reading a couple of tutorials, but a lot of the guides and references I found are pretty basic stuff. It's like they're missing a bunch of steps and mostly just went from "draw an outline" to "fill the rest of the fucking thing" which isn't helpful at all for a complete beginner like me... Is there any resource you'd recommend?

This is what I have bookmarked:
http://pixeljoint.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=11299
https://opengameart.org/content/les-forges-pixel-art-course

In my opinion the best way is to lean to draw traditional and then scan or trace the drawing.
Learn do draw the lines as you want, cute round lines, strong straight lines, I think that pixel art is all about making tradeoffs, optimizing resources and implying things.
the bases for drawning pixel art are the same as any other kind of drawing.
I think that what you need the most is learning how to draw lines, dithering, AA , etc
But again I think that you rendered the clothes and hair rather nice, that means that you have an eye for it

I'm not artist so take my advice with a gran of salt.

When you are practicing anything or making a drawning a day just for fun is better to make as many small pieces as you can, focusing on what you are studying at the moment.
Think what people do to practice gestures, values etc..
If you don't know how to draw, investing a lot of time into a piece is useless since it still will look
bad, and if you are doing it for fun and you don't have much time each day is easy to burnout.
Also I find low res pixel art ( 256x224 320x240) pretty charming and comfortable,
and whatever you can do with a 1024x768 or higher canvas you can do it with 320x240 640x480.

I'm a complete beginner, so there's that, but when I tried my hands at it, there's just a certain wonderful feeling at being able to have a level of control down to the smallest pixel. It's just such a nice feeling. And obviously the smaller it is, the easier it is to exert that control over the whole image.

I guess it's nice to me since it's like what I do with music. Sure there are lots of pre-packaged loops and beats out there, but I like to write my own patterns and phrases and tune it down to the timing and dynamics etc of the individual note. I imagine some pixel artists like having that level of control as well.

The other big thing is obviously the aesthetics. You can't really have that obvious retro pixel art aesthetic if you can't see the pixel and everything is over-smoothened with AA. It's part of the old video game aesthetics that a lot of people grew up with, so it's a nice way to capture that nostalgic feeling.

It seems sometimes like they make sprites like half the size of the ones back then though. Having larger, detailed sprites was a good thing. I never really understood why people suddenly thought having tiny, junky sprites was worthy of nostalgia. Especially the people who do stuff like the 1 pixel thin legs and stuff, I've never seen that in anything before modern times. I don't really get what they have nostalgia for basically. It's not 8 and 16 bit or arcade era, nor the blobby sprites of older computer/console eras with only a few colors at best. Like what type of sprites are they trying to imitate?

Can't speak for him, but a lot of newer indie games simply do this ultra-low-res pixel art because it's low-effort and easy to make without putting any real thought into the spritework, color palette, or detail.

About my 19215508, you are right that it was resized. It started off as a 50x50 pixel Paint drawing, which most of the big pixels are from. I scaled it to 100x100 to use smaller pixels, since some details didn't look so good with large pixels (eyes, eyebrows, finger lines, Yin-Yang orbs, mouth). However, I still purposely tried to keep as many large pixels in place where I could, to keep it looking closer to low-res pixel art.

For my first pixel artwork, I'm happy with how it turned out.

>It's never too late to start. We can't reset skill points but we also don't have a skill cap.
I referenced EO because while what you said is true, we do have a finite amount of skill points to assign. This is a problem for people who take the Megumin route and sink all of their points into one or two skills over several years. Expertise becomes the norm for you and those familiar with your work. Developing a new skill usually results in jarring flaws and deficiencies caused by the gap in quality between your writing and your illustrations or vice versa.

It's why a lot of good doujinshi artists stick to the same genre and plot structure. Or why a lot of writers prefer to collaborate with illustrators instead of doing everything themselves.

I like to save every drawing I do including practice ones and going back from Jan 2017 showed in this drawing of a primitive Cag to the current date I have only drew 230 days. A lot of them not even near an hour because I was bullshitting a lot. So a year and a half since then but only actually drew for 230 of those days. That is only like 60% of one year. I still see myself as shit. I want to be able to make doujin quality drawings and I know I still got a lot to go but honestly If you started fresh and did an hour a day of practice with no bullshitting you would already pass me in less than half a year.

You've got to remember when you say something like this that there is no bottom to "doujin quality". There are plenty of shitscribble doujinshi out there.(even more for doujin games, even ero ones) Shit that makes you wonder why they even bothered drawing.

I saw this while clicking through the related videos from the OP: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZprznIesG1A

How does one learn to draw like this? Within 4 minutes he has an entire rough sketch by just using a bunch of seemingly random squiggly lines. I've only recently started learning, but most of the guides I've seen on pixiv and elsewhere involve constructing the body in ways that don't really offer a lot of leeway for such dynamic posing like how he does it.

>> No.19266784

>>19263763
I just like to grab a little from everywhere. YT videos I will search people like Proko and Sycra for some anatomy. As for books I recommend looking at the /ic/ sticky where you can see a roadmap and get the pdf for all the popular books. While I think Loomis is important its my opinion that past the first few pages even "fun with a pencil" is not a beginner book. But still good to look at and just get whatever you can out of it but don't get frustrated when you can't replicate things. I also like Michael Hampton's "figure drawing design and invention" where you can learn some good anatomy there as well as how to figure draw and get a better grasp of 3D space. After you get the basic of figure drawing from this book you can go to pose sites and try doing figure drawing of various poses.

A very important book in my opinion is "Keys to Drawing". It has less to do with anatomy but it just shows you how to actually draw what you're looking at. The eye is actually something we have to train and this book will help show you how to do it. The higher lvl your eyes are the easier it is to draw what you're actually looking at and you'll get a better grasp of drawing concepts. Reading and understanding books will get easier. I am relooking at all anatomy stuff right now too because my current understanding of anatomy was from when I had a lower eye level but every time I study something now I make my previous version of it look like complete trash. And when I get better eye level I will have to look at everything again.

Also I think it's a good idea to hover around /ic/ even if you don't post. Although 60% of what they say is a meme there are some very valuable tips. Anime Study, Alternative Art/Stylization, Porn, and Beginner threads are good ones to keep an eye on. I also like to look at tutorial images you can find on twitter and even sadpanda has a "how to" tag where you can find some. Here are some mainly from twitter. They are mostly Japanese but there is still stuff you'll be able to take away from it. http://www.mediafire.com/file/omu3najwpv8bun1/Tutorials.rar/file

Guy making Sim Loli here again, nice to see a /jp/ OC thread again! It's too bad they're sometimes sporadic.

I added in stalking + photo-taking, pic related.

I guess at some point I should add a proper NPC animation layer instead of the ad-hoc mess I have right now, if I'm going to be having even more actions with animations that aren't related to walking (like the previous two, being walking + dragging).

But first, let's work on the suspicion system again! Can't have the player be able to blindly take pictures, yet I can't just use the crime system, since you can take pictures legally in public. Right now everything is either 100% fine, or it's a crime. I need to get on that suspicion system instead. Kind of like the Hitman games.

It's about adults and NPCs in general, too, not just cops. I already have a bit of a suspicion system, but it's pretty barebones and I only had it associated with regions. (ie girls bathroom == very suspicious, or somewhere at 3am == suspicious, but 3pm isn't).

But it's two parts, really. There's handling how to compute suspicion, then there's the other of making NPCs handle suspicion. I'll make the NPC question the player at some point, I guess. I gave the sources of suspicion unique ids so that I can code some dialogue for the player to try and worm his way out if he has enough charisma, but I'm not sure if it's reasonable for all sources.
