Post photographs and videos you or others have taken around Japan.
Modern or traditional, urban or rural, landscape or macro, anything is good.

Yeah it was one of a number of alleys populated with small bars, catering for 5-20 people or so. I'm not too sure where in greater Tokyo it was, though, because I was using my 7D that night and it doesn't have GPS.

The sign wasn't all that common but it did pop up from time to time and, where it did, it was mostly at smaller places in back-alleys; sometimes we were also asked to leave, straight after walking in, when it was apparent we didn't speak Japanese (I can read kana but still don't know what most of it means). It was a little confronting initially but we just had to accept it and find somewhere else. It wasn't so much of an issue as to cause us any real problems and we still had plenty of fun and found lots of great places to drink and/or eat yakitori.

Yep, Imadegawa campus. The Ryoshinkan is only a few years old, three or four I think. The cafeteria, which is located in the basement, is nothing special (outside of the sasami cheese katsu), but the bakery above it on the first floor is fantastic.

Nope, I post here and reddit occasionally but that is it.

Most of my stuff is boring touristy shots of Kyoto. The snow one was a fluke, don’t think I could reproduce it. I was mainly going for the cool snow flurries. I don’t really have an eye for Japanese street photography, too used to it to see it I think.

If you still reside in Japan, and have a chance to visit Tokyo, make sure you visit Kotakemukaihara. There are coffee shops all around and tiny streets filled with old design shops, and some Kaikan buildings. A stroll from Kotakemukaihara towards Ekoda can be fruitful.

Did you take this picture? If so, can you give me any info about getting there? I have a trip to Aomori planned this summer. I'm planning to do the Aoike/Juniko hike, along with hiking up Mt Shirakami (separate days). I'm a little worried about how feasible my plan is, as I'll be in Hakodate until August 6 and then staying 3 nights in Noshiro to get to and from Juniko and Shirakami. I can't stay any closer because everything in Aomori seems to be sold out for Nebuta.

I'm visiting Japan for the first time soonish and currently planning it. I'm going Tokyo > Hiroshima > Kyoto > Osaka > tokyo.
A lot of the recommended places to visit are all shrines / old buildings of various descriptions - do these get samey after you've seen a few or is it worth seeing as many as possible?
What are some truly unique not to be missed sights or activities I can do?

>> No.19017761

Hiroshima: the whole nuclear memorial complex. Itsukushima Island is near Hiroshima and it's worth visiting as well.

Kyoto: Nishiki Food Market. A problem with Kyoto for me was how after seeing few shrines and temples (even if many of them are worth seeing) a lot of them started to just blend together. That's why the food market was my favorite.

Tokyo: Meiji Jingu garden was my favorite. Tokyon Metropolitan Government Building was another nice one, go there if there's no clouds so you can see Fuji from there. Akiba and Shibuya are must see as well. Go to a maid cafe.

Save a majority of your days for Tokyo, it is so unbelievably huge. I also advice you to go there last, since Osake, Hiroshima and especially Kyoto are all going to feel underwhelming after you've experienced the world's largest metropolitan area. If you can, try to time your trip to overlap with an event like Comiket, Reitaisai or Mogra. I couldn't attend any of those in my first time and my next trip will focus on getting to experience them.

It's okay unless it is an overcrowded schedule
There are two ways of accessing the jyuniko lakes
How to use a rental car and train and bus

If you are a rental car, 43 km travel time is 51 minutes
When you arrive at jyuniko Lakes, you park the car at a toll parking lot (400 yen)

For trains and buses
Take the train from Noshiro to Jodoko station (charge 840 yen, boarding time 1 hour 6 minutes)
Take the bus from jyuniko Lake Station to Wang Ponda or Oku jyuniko Lake Parking Lot (Price: 200 yen / day ride time: 15 minutes)
However, it is super local line so pay attention to the timetable
There is only one train in two hours and one bus per hour

It will be tough if you miss it
If you have money you can use a taxi or a chauffeur-driven hired car, but It will be expensive
I most recommend a rental car

For souvenirs and souvenirs in the twelve lakes (shop named Kyo Lolo)
You can apply for the guided tour at the information desk, but
I do not know if I can do a guided tour in English

Hiking plans vary from 1 hour to more than 5 hours course etc.
In the summer, there are a lot of tourists, so I do not think he will get lost
I strongly recommend using a guide if walking long distances
Price starts from 10,000 yen

Last pic worth sharing is the other half of the L/D with some weird flooring rolled up. I feel like a reform started and then was abandoned here. I had the flash off but the balcony has a lot of natural light coming in which is good. Sorry for wasting image limits, hopefully it will be interesting when I fix the place up with better photos.

Generally I was shocked at how cheap old-worn out apartments are in Japan. This area is very convenient and nice even after all the various expenses and renovations I outright own the place for 5 figures in USD.

There was a land dispute between the owner of the land that building is on and the government, it went on for a few years because neither wanted to budge on what they wanted to do with the land. That arrangement was a compromise between them.

I was gonna say, that seems like a really shit deal there anon, but if you own it for less than $100,000 after renovations then it sounds like you've got it made. You've definitely got some work ahead of you, my family and I are living in a house we fixed up ourselves too(in America, so it's a different situation), but it worked out nicely for us in the end. I look forward to seeing your finished project.
Do you have any pictures you could share of the outside/the surrounding streets without doxxing yourself?

Yes, considering I have lived off and on here for over a year, its at the point where this saves me money since gaijin tax on accommodation is at least double. I feel like it would be an easy resale after I fix it up if it ever came to that, especially with the olympics coming up. I doubt I could show the front without doxing, its not much to look at anyway, just an old ass brick apartment building.

I am only doing really superficial stuff myself, I do have to have a reform company come in and do about 10K of work. Still, I literally couldn't afford any half-decent property in a good location back in the states despite my efforts and now I'm a stones throw away from anything I could want to do in Tokyo.
>>19115676
Yeah its one style of hot water (gas I think) but I am not sure if it works still. Newer places have all this built out somewhere central to control all the hot water. I'll use this if it works and is cheaper than a replacement.

The latter. I won't post a picture here because it's not Japan, but it's easy to find pictures of the one I'm talking about if you search for it. Apparently there were more than 700,000 locks and their total weight was 45 tons.
