What do you mean? Talking about the master source material on current TV shows being 960x540, 1280x720 1600x900, and other misc resolutions rather than 1920x1080? I think everybody knows that, but we still want the benefit of higher-than-DVD + little-to-no compression noise.

It'll be nice when more digitally-created shows are actually made at 1920x1080, though. Right now I think the only two are One Piece and Ojarumaru.

In the meantime, 35mm film scan for CC Sakura coming up, awww yeah

digital techniques and use of computers have taken all the skill out of creating anime. We need a movement back to cells and film that require skill, rather then digital copies and files that can be created by anyone with time and a computer.

I got bad news for ya, i hate to say it but CELLS WILL NO LONGER BE USED IN ANIMATION. ITS DEAD...... Cell disposal was very toxic for the enviorment so Japan simple outlawed them alittle while ago... not to mention that it is cheaper with digital. Look at what happened to the disney movies.... What took 250 people to do with movies like snow white, lil mermaid, cinderella. NOW only takes about 5.. Thats why disney comes out with 5 sequals to all those movies.I really liked the cell animation but its gone..now even cartoon tv shows dont take up alot of manpower and are cheaper but look like SHIT. Total drama island and kimpossible for example are made with Toon Boom 4. You could actually get that softwear and make your own cartoon show just like it.... look it up some time, but those shows' animation dont even compare to Thundar Cats. So i do think the animation industry is going backwards for now. Sorry for the long response just keeping ya informed

Cel collector here. Actually the most popular anime in Japan - Sazae-san is still made the traditional cel way. The producers and shows audience prefer the dirty look cel animation gives the show and so have stuck with acetate cels.

Another explanation I've also been give for Sazae-san still using cels is that many of the shows animators are old and a change to digital colouring may have been expensive.
