I understand the whole masochism thing, but I don't really understand how it managed to become wildly popular. I always figured that her lines were a good way to show how childish and spoiled Tenshi is.

I actually don't think she's a masochist; just that she loves combat. Provoking Reimu that she'll destroy that which she's been charged to protect is a very obvious way to get her to fight.

Yeah, but Tenshi stands out the most, because she became a Celestial without actually doing anything. She was spoiled because of the way she was raised, whereas many of the other "spoiled brats", are that way because they're essentially children. Tenshi and Remilia are similar in the aspect that they SHOULD act extraordinarily mature by all standards, but instead, act extremely selfish and childish. Remilia is debatable, but I'm going with the idea that living for several centuries should have given Remilia some line of maturity, given that she was a normal being.

I like Tenshi because her motives are just so pure and simple. While the other bosses have done things for some personal reason or another, attempting to gain something, and people getting pissed off just being an undesired side-effect, Tenshi does what she does because she WANTS to piss people off. She's not trying to hide from pursuers, gather faith or power for herself, or anything like that. She's just BORED, and starting incidents just seems like the thing to do when you're an ultra-powerful being living in Gensokyo.

That, and I like her non-loli-yet-still-deliciously-flat appeal.
