Koropokkur has barely made it's goal with 2 days left, looks like it'll only get a few thousand more at most. Must have been a disappointment for MG considering they had stretch goals up to 200k. I'm glad it flopped though, feels like a slap in the face to debut with an all-ages VN after building a fanbase off 18+ content.

I've been reading through the new Cross Channel translation and it seems fine. The jokes seem well-localized for the most part and its pretty funny. Uncropped CGs are available in the gallery. Lack of H-scenes is irrelevant to me but I understand that bothers some people. All of the tumult seems pretty overblown. I've always called bullshit on the idea that any eroge writer is "untranslatable" due to being the Japanese equivalent of Shakespeare or some other ridiculous crap.

It will take quite a time lad. We are making progress, but slowly. It's a longass story and we aren't doing this for money, so we have other priorities in our daily lives. Right now we are focusing more on the Chaos;Child patch, the amount of CGs to translate and edit is absurd.

>The font is horrible and unreadable
I haven't had any trouble with the normal appearance of the font. The game does, however, have an option to change the color of text you have already read. This changes the text to blue and it is indeed somewhat hard to read because the text box is also blue. But you can just turn this option off if you don't like it. A lot of the screenshots I've seen posted are using this read-text font color and give the wrong idea.

Numbers as in progress in the translation of NoAH? Not yet, we would have to agree to it as a group and in that case we would probably post them on Twitter before doing it anywhere else. As for Chaos;Child CGs, there are literally hundreds of them but we have finished most of them (I believe, I'm not in charge of that). We have also been improving the script and doing other fixes here and there.

>> No.18733975

Well if it's of some help to you, the other day we said on our Discord server that our lead translator did most of Kozue's route a few days ago. But of course there's a lot more to do after that, and it's not the only thing we have done by far.
Don't worry though, as soon as we decide to make any progress known publicly, I will post it here. I can assure you that the translation isn't on standby, it just progresses in chunks because our lead translator is quite busy with real life. We don't intend to ever drop it either, most of us have a huge motivation on bringing NoAH to west audiences. The worst case scenario would be our lead translator ended up dead, in which case we would search for another one and make sure he's competent enough to take on the project.

Just because one release is bad and another is less bad doesn't mean we should think about the latter as "at least it's better than". Koropukkur's $37k is a fair bit below the $50k that Fatal Twelve managed to get as a similar Kickstarter for a new project with a somewhat well known name attached, which at the outset seemed like a good comparison. While MG is likely happy that it managed to reach its goal avoiding a complete disaster, it likely is a disappointment when they had stretch goals extending though $200k and were ready to scale it to be a far more significant project. If they follow in the footsteps of others and include backerkit sales in the final total they likely can get to the $40k stretch goal, but obviously everything else is long out of reach.

Aside from the Kickstarter performance itself, the "backer achievements" part of the Kickstarter designed to increase their social media reach was a complete wash. The only goal they managed to reach seems to be the 300 backers (unless some people did fanart). Either way, they had additions to the VN release at every 5th achievement, and they obviously did not manage to get to the first goal.

Separately, using the achievement method laid out in the last thread, the intervals between achievements for Cross Channel is now roughly .41%, suggesting just shy of 250 owners that are reflected in the global achievements. By any measure, it is likely doing quite poorly for a launch, especially with Moenovel getting just $6.30 per US sale and $4.12 per Chinese sale thanks to their low retail price.

I disagree. Localization entails replicating the tone of the original Japanese, for example. Consider the people complaining about games having cursing in them. How do they know whether that is accurate or not if they don't know Japanese? They're basically just whining that they don't like something. Likewise I've seen people complain about games using "lol" even though the Japanese text says "www". They don't have any idea what's in the original and have no ability to judge it.

It hasn't been an issue as ever since Kindred Spirits, Valve has basically been working off of a standard best summed up as "technically not porn". Regardless of what (if anything) happens with SakuSaku, I would think after the Maidens of Michael mess (which was edited to a similar level as Kindred Spirits) companies will opt to censor what is actually released on Steam farther than they have been to avoid similar situations. Thankfully increased restrictions on Steam aren't particularly harmful as pretty much all active localization companies (aside Moenovel and Sekai's Baldr Sky) are releasing titles uncut off of Steam, and uncut patches for the Steam releases themselves are rather commonplace. In titles with free patches, there is also always the Subahibi approach in cases where it would be difficult to censor a route or routes for Steam if Valve were to clamp down farther.

>>18765011
Valve is pretty relaxed when it comes to sex in games, and though they've curbed advertising adult patches on their services, they haven't clamped down on issuing adult patches in general. I don't think there's any big shift coming there either. However, if they think there's sexual content involving minors, they're much less forgiving.

Off the top of my head, Yohjo Simulator, Hemoimo, Key to Home, and Maidens of Michael all got removed for that reason. I'm sure there's more too that I don't know of. But of those, only Maidens of Michael even had nudity, so that's not a requirement to get pulled. Thinking that, it does seem possible that they could get Sakusaku pulled. On the other hand though, the chinese monobeno is still around, and some other pretty borderline titles are still around. It seems pretty random how they apply their policies.

>> No.18765851

>>18765355
I agree with that, though Maidens of Michael sticks out as the content in the Steam release is on par with Kindred Spirits which was explicitly approved by Steam, and if Maidens of Michael was problematic there are quite a few other titles on the platform that may run into issues despite at release being thought of as fine at the time of their release (such as perhaps SakuSaku). Even without a coordinated clampdown by Valve, if that was on the wrong side of the vague line then localization companies are going to step back from the line for Steam.

In that regards though, Maitetsu is a potential landmine for Sekai on Steam no matter how they handle making it Steam friendly, although that has been true to some degree from day one even before they picked up the R18 release.

Actually, nevermind. After extensive testing, I found out what causes this issue, and it's exactly the same thing as >>18716056 had. No way downloading the prepatched thing fixed his problem, because the issue blocks the injection process.
It's the simplest thing, really. Your region format. See the pic? Some formats, for some inexplicable reason, cockblock the software. For example, when I set it to French (Syria) or French (France), the program won't start, with the same error Polish anon had. However, when I set it to French (Belgium), the .exe is injected just fine, and the program runs. I never noticed this, because I have Windows 10 format set to EN (US) and Windows 7 set to JP.

TL;DR - Go to clock, language, and region in control panel and set your format to English or Japanese. I guarantee it will fix the issue.

>> No.18774263

>>18772114
I'd assume the program probably auto-detects what text format it is going to play around with based on that. So in US you might get ASCII or UTF-8 and in other countries maybe it just goes for UTF-16 or something different and your patcher just can't figure out how it is going to work with the additional letter support.

Maybe you can actually configure that from the start and tell it to insert text as ASCII or whatever format it needs.
