Starts off genuinely unnerving and creepy but not too edgy, then goes full edge and very unnerving and gross. Then it turns into something actually very interesting and pretty great. Think Higurashi + Evangelion + Madoka + Devilman + Berserk in that order.

Also there's a lot of really stupid moments where canon is just completely and utterly disregarded. Everybody is nerfed to the extreme and die way too easily. The way that they killed Yukari and Kaiju Mokou was especially fucking stupid.

I don't know how to explain it really. It starts out with Koishi being crazy and almost killing Meiling because she wants a fishing rod, and then gets really violent. Then because I think it was attracting the "wrong crowd" the author didn't know what to do with it so he turned it into something like a cross between Berserk (up to the Eclipse part) and Evangelion (think EoE more than the TV series). Also, I didn't think it was possible for me to hate the moonbitches even more but somehow this series made it happen.

The interesting stuff is foreshadowed pretty early on, but that's also when it's the most edgiest. Later on the violence gets toned down and it just becomes a crazy roller coaster of despair with some really bizarre plot shit going on. I can't vouch for any translation because I've only seen the original Japanese version however. There's a good chance a lot of stuff gets lost in the translation, especially when it becomes more dialogue-heavy.
