Very well, if you insist.

What you need to understand is that all the touhou characters are yukai. Yukai are demons of the Japanese mythology. They are like Satan in that they dwell in souls and try to tempt good Christians. Most of them are succubus or something like that, thought there is also the Japanese Goblin, the Japanese Ogre and the Japanese hobbit. All are demons (Yukai).

In Touhou the Yukai fights against each other because their nature is to fight for souls. Yukari is the Yukai of trains/gates. Patchouli is the Yukai of books. Etc.

Even that's a questionable prospect for killing Hourai Immortals.
To make something cease to exist is a form of change, something that a Hourai existence rejects.

The best way to kill a Hourai Immortal is likely to destroy the universe itself. Make it so that the Hourai doesn't have a place to exist, essentially killing it by preventing it to ever form because there is no space to form.

The moment that Mokou, Kaguya, Eirin, and Chang'e drank the Hourai Elixir their existence rejected all change.

Say if you prevent them from ever being born, essentially preventing their existence.
You then go back to the current timeline and find that the Hourais are still alive and well because their existence is in stasis.
What happened in the past does not affect them because in this timeline, they already drank the Hourai Elixir. The change you have done to the timeline is rejected.

Reminder that no known Touhou can kill a Hourai Immortal. This includes Yukari, Okina, Watatsukis, Remilia, and more that can very likely play with the concept of existence.

>Also for that anon suggesting that Usami Sadamitsu might be related to Renko/Sumireko, isn't his family name written differently from Renko's?

The surname 宇佐見 on Renko/Sumireko is the alternate kanji writing for the Sadamitsu's surname 宇佐美. So more or less they are the same, hence why they might have blood relation.

I didn't say kill or not born, I said not exist. Concept of immortals doesn't exist. History of immortals doesn't exist. Memory of immortals doesn't exist. A complete universe without immortality.

Incidentally for them to be actually immortal, they have to be more powerful than whatever the strongest god in touhouverse is, lest it just remake a universe without them.

The Bamboo Annals makes reference to a historical Hou Yi who is often conflated with the legendary sun-shooting Hou Yi. Some accounts of his death involve his wife, referred to as Sable Fox, who might have been Junko (fox motif).

http://www.wikiwand.com/en/Han_Zhuo

I might have thought that because of this Junko couldn't have been the mother of the suns, however, now that I read this article again none of this is making sense, as Sable Fox not only had one, but two sons, and was made right after Hou Yi died. The Junko we know lost her son to Hou Yi, who must've been alive to kill him.

Yeah, uh.... so forget everything I said.

Still, there is a chance Junko's son might have lived on within Okuu, but she's a literally unknown character so anything is possible.

Just found out that Junko is based on TWO characters.

The first is the obvious Chún Hú (纯狐) or Xuán Qī (玄妻), the wife of Emperor Hou Yi.

The other one is Xihe (羲和), the Chinese Sun Goddess.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xihe_(deity)
>Xihe (Chinese: 羲和; pinyin: Xīhé; Wade–Giles: Hsi-ho), was a solar deity in Chinese mythology. One of the two wives of Di Jun (along with Changxi), she was the mother of ten suns in the form of three-legged crows residing in a mulberry tree, the Fusang, in the East Sea. Each day, one of the sun birds would be rostered to travel around the world on a carriage driven by Xihe.

Folklore also held that once, all ten sun birds came out on the same day, causing the world to burn; Houyi saved the day by shooting down all but one of the sun birds.

It's mostly a process of elimination. Kuzunoha is a shrine kami and thus no longer in the youkai category, which Ran is. Da Ji is actually the same (evil) fox spirit as Tamamo according to folklore, as Japanese folklore have a tendency to write fan-sequels to Chinese original ones, who fled the body of the concubine to Japan.

Also, while tales of random kitsune like the Marisa impersonator are fairly common, nine-tailed ones are surprisingly hard to find, and Tamamo-no-Mae's ending (being hunted down and killed) is the only one about a nine-tails I could find that would enable Yukari, who is powerful but has limits, to persuade/press-gang one into servitude or perform pic-related.

It's a process of elimination. Tales about fox spirits are common, but nine-tailed foxes are actually pretty hard to find in folklore. Kuzunoha has already transcended youkai-dom into a god, which Ran isn't, and Da Ji is both Chinese and died about 3000 years before either Yukari or Ran were first mentioned, not to mention having been sentenced to hell by a creator god on par if not stronger than Gensokyo's Dragon: Nuwa. Although, the painter Hokusai remixed together Daji, the Indian rakhasa Kalmashapada, and Tamamo-no-Mae into one spirit that hopped between bodies until finally being put down in her Japanese incarnation.

Most importantly, nine-tailed foxes don't go down easy in Japanese folklore, and only Tamamo-no-Mae, to my knowledge, got in a position (hunted down and arrow-ed) where somebody like Yukari, who is strong but not enough to enslave gods, could have feasibly press-ganged or pic-related a nine-tailed fox.

Probably coincidental but seems fun to mention there may be another layer to Utsuho's concept other than simply being a living shrine for Yatagarasu.

In her spellcard a image of Chernobyl shows up, as it stands there is a urban myth directly connected with the event known as the Black Bird of Chernobyl. Supposedly there were multiple reports prior to the disaster where a crow like humanoid with large black wings and red eyes appeared before many victims and all of these ceased after the Chernobyl explosion. As it stood later on many locals would eventually come to regard the being as some kind of avatar or omen of the nuclear disaster. This was also accompanied by many disturbing events and threatening phonecalls seemingly from nobody, which probably weren't from Koishi.

The original text is just "descendant", "descended from" (unless you want to argue it's wordplay), but regardless to then propose she was bitten by him instead for no real reason is incredibly dumb. The whole point of that blurb is just to show that Remilia likes to boast and lie about things that make her sound cool. Tepes himself is completely irrelevant.

A bit of fun trivia about Sagume's origin.

In the single one myth Amenosagume is featured in most have mentioned that they got freaked out by a divine messenger bird sent by Amaterasu on the advice of Omoikane and urged Amewakahiko to shoot it. However being a divine messenger bird and the arrow being of the same it instead turned back on Amewakahiko killing him. Along with being the originator of all Amanojaku it is easy to see how it inspired her design and gimmick of the world turning against her words.

Now the slight fun bit of trivia is more of a linguistic one that birds & rabbits share the same numeric counter suffixes and japanese even tends to refer to groups of rabbits as 'flocks' instead of 'colony'.

Evidently this linguistic tick has many origins but in one story from the same origin as the Amenosagume story about Emperor Temmu. It was said that he issued a Imperial edict that forbade the consumption of meat & fish due to Buddhist teachings. However due to the wording of this ban it basically overlooked birds.

Now people who really liked their meat through some impressive mental gymnastics figured that since cormorants and herons are okay, rabbits are also birds and good to eat. The significance of this is when you say comorant & heron together quickly it becomes a pun spelling out 'u + sagi'.

When you put it into the context of LoLK, and you realize Sagume's wing is pretty unmistakeably a Heron's wing. Sagume (sagi) ends up facing Reisen (usagi) who is the messenger bird sent by Omoikane/Eirin resulting in Sagume's attack getting turned against her.

Seriously that fucking ZUN.

Is Lunarian impurity entropy?
One could argue that's the reason Lunarians reject change and death, as life itself produces small amounts of entropy by merely being eating, growing and so on; produces much more entropy by competing against other lifeforms and a lot when the organism dies, rotting. Keep in mind death also ignites a resource race for the all the surrounding life.
These last points are important, because in the best case scenario for 90% of the free, known organisms (eg. not parasites), if you aren't competing for food and space, the growth, be it for a single organism or a community, shouldn't ever stop. The best example for this are bacteria with their exponential growth, limited only by the reasons cited before.
Counterpoint is: in this best case scenario life would still produce entropy, innately starting the survival race.

The concept of Shinto purity and impurity is a matter of ritual. The default state of all things is impure, even if they are not changing or alive, and ritual is needed to make them acceptable to the gods. But there are things, such as dead bodies, that will never be acceptable to the gods.
To maintain a civilization of purity, for and with the gods, they had to go to someplace considered "pure" in myth to do so. This ended up being the Moon.
That they then ended up going all Anti-Spiral about it is just due to being assholes, as gods tend to be.
