I don't know much, I'm not Korean and can't really speak Korean, plus a lot of dolls that Koreans are interested are in a style I'm not interested in. So I've literally just done a search. Nine9Style has a shop and cafe in Hongdae. There's also a doll market (DOLLFREEMARKET) held multiple times a year in both Seoul and Busan. Just looking at some photos I saw a store that sells 1/3 weapons and other tactical gear, for that anon that was looking for weapons a couple of threads back.

From my own firsthand knowledge, Volks had a store for a decade but that shut down last year. They didn't have much stuff there anyway when I visited. Also apparently Danny Choo wants to open a store here.

I have a feeling a lot of stuff is done online really and stores get known by word of mouth on Korean sites. But I wouldn't be surprised if there were a bunch of stores centered on a floor of some random market in Seoul.
Plus Japan is just there for Koreans what want to buy from Japan. I can fly there return for about $150. EMS takes 3 days to arrive, airmail takes 5 days. And even if something gets taxed it's going to be still be less than what local resellers sell at.

I know for me, it helps that my doll is based off a character I made, and draw a lot. So it's less guessing and more like "Do I choose the blue eyes with dark pupils? Or light?" Also hunting for the right wig (and then giving up making it myself).

Well I have followed him on and off since I bought my first smartdoll in 2016. Also after learning about smartdoll Infinity I have been following him much more closely so I can nab her at release.

Now I am no expert in all things Choo but I have not seen anything about robotic smartdoll in a very long time. And second I knew nothing about this robotic Miku at AX2017 so I looked it up.
She is super cool and made by volks with no connection to Choo at all. It's a project called Dollfie Honey that first appeared useing Miku in 2016. I also found a video from the AX2017. How you could see her in person and think smartdoll was involved in awayway is confusing as hell. She has the volks logo behind her and she is surrounded by other volks items.

Speecys Corporation Worked with Volks on the DDHoney. Choo was doing his stuff in house and was not working with them. Also Choo has basically removed most of the info on the robotic version. I found this article that covers what had changed and why I think the robotic version is dead.

I think the whole robotic doll was a much larger problem then he understood when he started. I don't doubt he was trying and will maybe try again once tech moves forward more. But with how hard it would be to produce the dolls plus how limited there functionality would be, combined with the fact he has become a profitable company leaning only into regular vinyl dolls I am not surprised he dropped the robotic side.

Otherwise, the best is to build a base doll you can always dress up latter. For a 2B candidate, I think a DDH-07 would be the best starting point.

20k is borderline reasonable. The base head costs 4k, a decent faceup is ~10k and most of the DDH-01 heads up for auction are modified (sanded mouth etc). But of course there's a number of factors that bump the price up (what the market is willing to bear, reputation of the customizer etc). Personally I'd be happy if I got a really nice DDH-01 for < 30k.

Another option besides auctions is to buy a blank head and commission a faceup artist. Finding a good one that's available is a different question though.

I have an Azone Enma Ai, which is an Obitsu head on a 48cm body. The head is cute from all angles, so I don't have any complaints there.

The biggest thing I noticed with Obitsu is their quality control seems way better than Volks'. All of her joints pose absolutely smoothly and solidly, whereas all 3 of my DDs have had problems with their joints since I got them. The best quality DD body I have is actually the only one I bought used, so it's not that.

Oh, one thing I didn't expect is that Obitsu lower bodies are super soft vinyl. I guess that's why they're more flexible, but I'm not used to a doll butt being so soft.

I'm definitely really happy with my purchase, but I've mostly been ignoring Ai since I got her. I was going to learn sewing, but I've had money trouble so I haven't bought some stuff I need yet. Soon, hopefully.

One detolf can comfortably hold 4 girls paired up. But mine are spread across three cabinets, I will occasionally change clothes and mix the parings up, I like to keep my girls paired up. I also enjoy taking photos of them. I didn't have a group shot so I just did this. Forgive me for I have sinned.

Some American Girl and the various knockoff stuff will work. Its a bit tricky because American Girls are shorter, but are meant to look like kids, so often things are an odd nebulous third-and-a-half scale. Nearly every major toy retailer has their own brand now as well and many of the cheap ones can be improved with a bit of paint or craftiness. The furniture though is usually more suited to MDD.

Food shaped erasers are some of my favorites. I also have to second what >>18558096 said, about American Girl and similar things. I have food meant for them and it's scaled pretty well for my DD. I also have a chair that fits, but is low to the ground so her legs stick out kind of far.

I've also found things like musical instruments in thrift stores, that were originally christmas ornaments, and a soccer ball that was originally a stress ball or something.

Really the best thing you can do, aside from buying things specifically made for SD/MSD sized dolls online, is to keep an eye open and an open mind when out and about. You never know what you may come across!
