Its nice for pure 0 drama(literally no conflict or anything in the 4/5 route i have done so far) love story/ coming of age, i did routes in it really slow cause it just can get boring in some parts while others keep you reading. Bethlys snow festival highschool arc for example was so boring i stalled it for 3 months came back started and finished Mizuhas route then 3 months after that pushed through bethlys HS arc and was rewarded by a university arc which was great and left me liking her route the most. They have nice unique credits for each heroine as well. Take its slow, its good but something you play every like 6 months or so.

While this really isn't the thread for that... I don't recommend such a VN for training. Too long, without much to keep your attention. It's likely not going to work out.

Do yourself a favor and find something that interests you and isn't too long. As long as the comedy and/or chuuni or whatever isn't way too big, that's better. Even if it's harder. You want something that keeps your attention.

Without a self insert is already a narrow selection. In fact, all those three things are arguably rare with VNs, at least when we are talking about actual comedy and not what so many random moege try to do.

That said, there are a few. Kinda hard to define what's a self insert and what isn't, that will also depend on the person and what they exactly mean with that, but yeah. Pic related is an example of a work with a fully voiced protag. Should work for most. Small cast though.

I wasn't really counting the 5 heroines (vita all-ages doesn't count, slapped on as she is) because 4-5 heroines is standard. If 5 heroines with a few side characters is a large cast, then 99% of VNs have a large cast. That's so silly I'm gonna be rude and say it's stupid to call that a large cast. Rance is a game with a large cast - it has over 100 characters, heck, there are like 250 characters confirmed to be in X already. This is not a world where 5 heroines and a few side characters is a "large cast". That's a small-ish cast.

You know, I'm wondering if I'm thinking too deeply about this, but I felt that this game was rather meta.

The general premise and one of the major twists of Biniku no Kaori is the fact that everything Kaori was trying to do during the main scenario was all in the purpose of trying to seduce the protagonist Now the thing that makes it kind of interesting for me is that a lot of the bad ends involve the protag having sex with Kaori In fact, I started to notice a distinct pattern where the game would show a scene involving Kaori with revealing clothing and doing something to arouse the protagonist, then give the player a choice of whether to act on those aroused feelings and have sex with Kaori or not. In a way, I think the game itself was trying to seduce the player towards Kaori, the game itself was trying to make you fall for her trap. Kaori is hot as fuck, and the way the game juxtaposes those revealing CGs with the choices was pretty damn cool when you realize the twist. Probably one of the only games where I feel the fanservice CGs has a point.

I may be thinking too deeply about it, but still, cool game, I wish there were more heroines like Kaori in eroge.

It's some weird shit. I've read a bit about it, and I came to the conclusion to no longer think about it. You can add any domain as an exception so the ipv4 DNS is preferred for that.
The thing is, the site HAS an ipv6 address. It's just broken, or not setup, or something. I think that's what the issue actually is. Maybe. Or mabye not.

Btw, that is the gaijin proxy. Not sure how nihon that is. The nihon one worked. (with a proxy, which doesn't say much of anything I guess?)

It should work now. I didn't notice because my ISP doesn't support IPv6. Just contact me whenever you have an issue (see the landing page).

As a side note, EGS indeed doesn't support IPv6 so I guess you can use this as an IPv6 proxy too.

>> No.18228037

>>18227939

Didn't know you were in the thread. Aside of me only figuring it out today anyway. Before I was just thinking, there's some issue or something.. but it lasted for so long I started to check some other ideas. (google cache check if it's available there, DNS issues, browser issues, adware issues and whatnot, out of which DNS ended up being the right idea though in a different way than I initially thought)

The problem was just that you'd get 404 and a "server is setup now" message at the top, which feels like the server crashed and was reset or something. And I had no idea how actively the site is maintained.
The JP site not supporting ipv6 is interesting, but I still think the issue here was that technically there was support for ipv6, it was just not setup. If there is no ipv6 support at all, ipv4 should be used automatically anyway. I've never had this issue with any other site in the last months, which includes plenty of older eroge websites which I doubt would all support ipv6.

That said, checked right now, and it seemed to work without the exception now. So, it should be fixed.

>> No.18228105

>>18228037
Yeah, it's because the IPv6 record was properly set up at the DNS level, but not in the web server; your computer saw this and (correctly) tried to go to it through IPv6 but when it got to the web server it returned a 404. In EGS (JP) case it isn't even set up at the DNS so it's safe to assume they don't support it at all. This is also why your computer sees this and correctly defaults to IPv4 there.

Either way the proxy is working with IPv6 now, thanks for pointing out the issue.

>what's a self insert and what isn't

I'd say that it has to do with how fleshed out the character is. Motivations, roles, personal philosophy, etc.

A self-insert usually has a simple motivation or two ("I need a true lover because [x]!"), along with a couple of simple roles ("It all started when I was on my way to school after staying at my best friend's house..."), but for the most part, he's just the protagonist™. If he has any sort of personal philosophy, it's going to be extremely simple. If he does something horrible, like rape one of the heroines, it's extremely base motivations that lead him to do it ("I feel so bored. Why do I need play along with this relationship? I need excitement!"). They don't really have the framework to drive any sort of story. Characters who have personalities provide all of the substance, and the protagonist just does whatever the writer needs him to do in order to advance the plot or deliver the joke.

Let's look at Shiki from Tsukihime, an attempted self-insert that's generally not really considered to be a self-insert by readers. Why? He has too many fleshed out personal motivations, he has too much personal will, and his relationships with the other characters are too complex.

Well, I finally finished Rance 01. It was a nice game overall. There were even some moments that made me smile. It's not a game I could play for long periods though, since there were too many sex scenes for that. I wanted to fully identify with Rance and cum every time he came, but in the end I abandoned this quest.

The gameplay is basic, but nice. The characters are all enjoyable, though they are usually pretty flat.

With registration being already as arbitrary as it is, and having no reason for being as it is either, there's likely to be more shit like that. And I at least would rather not deal with any of that.

Reminder, they don't check if anyone is just actually an anime fan and wants to get in, is human and so on. No. Honestly, I don't even know what they want to check.

Anon, I don't know if you have any self awareness, but you just sound like a huge autistic sperg. Applications in general are just there to get a general impression of the character that is trying to join, e.g. someone with lots of typos and lower case writing didn't care to put in any effort so it's likely they won't put effort into managing their torrents properly or reading the rules either. In your case you just come of as the kind of manchild who creates drama, and apparently their instincts were right since you're still going on about it like a month later trying to dissuade other people from going there and wishing the site to die. They did a good job in my eyes if one less person like that got in.

Especially by the protagonist who's getting all emotional and hotheaded because of that dumb idiot.

I mean maybe in a simple school story that'd be okay. Maybe. Probaly not, but maybe. The actual story however gets hurt so damn much by the awfulness of the villains, even though outside of those "confrontations" there's a lot to like.

It may even be better to not even read the true route. This however really depends on how you look at stories like that, so... yeah.
It's a little similar to what she says in pic related. Depending on if you'd agree or disagree with her, you'll probably go away differently from the the true route. Basically, do you want/need something else than just some simple feels out of your story?

Differences due to circumstance are just as valid as natural differences and make you a distinct person. Shit. I'm done with common. I'M DONE. Only ~1.3mb. 1.3mb of the protag being donkan and not quite getting how everyone likes him. It's like To love ru all over again. Or something.

Still, this common route was, for its length, still pretty fun. Most of the "plot" wasn't. But that's because the main villain is like a stupid sjw or something. (PERFECT EQUALITY, while making everyone hate her in the process) I'd laugh if things wouldn't have been LONG already and it was a nice excuse to skip a few scenes. Well, her just being hysteric didn't help the matter either.
The game does use sprites really well and I generally have a pretty high opinion of it's visual production. The BGM however is the opposite. Almost all the time you hear one from 4 songs. And some of those are REALLY not made for that common usage, apart of 4 just being way too little. I muted that by now.

Now for routes. Elise is best girl on a whole different scale. Has the best voice actor from the bunch as well. So that route is a must. Will probably play the main route as well, so I'm enforced to play all of the others. Gotta like random route enforcement for (probably) no reason.

That's Eushully's anti-piracy DRM. You need to install the game from a proper non-dummycut disc image (non-dummycut mdf is 8gb). The installer reads some bad sector on the DVD, if it can't the game installs properly but gives you that error message every 10 sec.

If you're sure that you have the proper non-dummycut image and you still encounter that problem you can also try changing your virtual drive program. Some of them just ignores bad sectors completely. I know Daemon Tools works for sure.

Lump of Sugar has one, which is probably meh, while Alcot's is probably shit. I also liked Nanoha, though mostly because her route in general was probably my favorite from both games rather than just her as a character. Twists that put some of the previous route's events in perspective and fleshing out the deal with Assembler in general, the whole stuff with Kou and her escaping together and the fight with Rain, the "hold the line" battle, Chinatsu's suicide bombing and following final boss with the professor were also pretty rad. Perfectly scratches the white knight itch and the feeling you're against the whole world together with your waifu, and I was really on the edge of my seat throughout it. Also because it's one of the earlier routes the feeling of repetition that affected my enjoyment of Dive 2 in particular hadn't yet crept in that strongly.

This is going off on more politics included in Baldr, but I honestly think that it's totally delusional to believe that our current sexual-political environment can last for more than another decade or two.

Either we embrace and renew our commitment to the nuclear family or family-centered moral values such as not going to orgies become a thing of the past. If you're not expected to be a good husband and father, who gives a shit about your sex life? And if being a good spouse and parent is important, then some of the things that Kou says to Rain about the lack of importance of the basic skills needed to raise a healthy child who doesn't have parental abandonment issues are completely out of place as a show of Kou being a kind and moral person, which is what they're clearly supposed to be.

There's a reason why many call this conflict the cultural civil war. These two sets of ideas cannot coexist. One of them will have to go.

Not true. You know why? The sexual liberation side relies on forced income redistribution at gunpoint to save them from their mistakes. The pro-family people will never accept having to pay for the fucked up end product of a backwards value system, and the sexual liberation people will never accept the threat that the pro-family people represent to their income.

Let's say that the sexual liberation crowd somehow survives the end of forced income redistribution into the pockets of single mothers. You're still barreling towards the collapse of the stable, hard working temperament that's necessary to maintain something as complex and fragile as civilization. Sooner or later, either one side will engulf the other or there will be a split.

>> No.18254660 [DELETED]

>>18254182
Why are you talking like people who advocate sexual liberation are devils who want everyone to abandon their kids? And why do you talk like fucked up people are somehow a product of this new "backwards value system"?

Fuck ups have always existed and will exist all the time as long as we're human, "family-centered values" are lip service that don't fix anything, they just hide a problem. Dysfunctional families have existed forever, the question is whether you force them to keep the image of a family with "good values" and still lead a shitty fake violent/cold familial life and have traumatized kids, or face reality and build a system based on giving the families freedom and options to fix their problem or have someone else fix it. Of course that system can also fail, but it's better than drowning in fake and superficial 綺麗事 about some kind of infallible values that only exist in a vacuum and in movies about the American dream.

>> No.18254776 [DELETED]

>>18254660

>Why are you talking like people who advocate sexual liberation are devils who want everyone to abandon their kids?

Because they advocate a lack of responsibility in choosing one's sexual partners, especially with the women. If a woman opens her legs for Mr. Dark Triad because she finds his scowling face, drugs habits, and violent demeanor to be sexy, of course she's going to transition into an abusive household followed by single motherhood. She's not a victim here; she's one of the perps, her crime is ignoring all of the great K-selected father and husband material who approached her with kindness and interest in her as a person in favor of the stupid R-selected ape who saw her as little more than a warm hole, and the victims are the kids who are stuck with the end results of her horrible decisions.

It's also coupled with a disdain for not dumping kids in daycare, where they exhibit the same signs as a kid who was just dumped on the street.

>WAAAAH THAT'S SEXIST HOW DARE YOU BLAME WOMEN FOR THE DECISIONS THAT THEY MAKE WITH THEIR VAGINAS
>MEN SHOULD FIX THIS EVEN WHEN THE GOOD ONES ARE SHUT OUT BY THE WOMEN
>AND THEY SHOULD DO IT BY SUBSIDIZING THE BAD DECISIONS OF THE WOMEN WITH THEIR WALLETS

And this is why the sexual liberation crowd are devils. They basically advocate for factoring the children out of the equation so that they can appease their base lusts.

>advocating for women to be responsible in any way = hating women

Ah, this old fallacy. Guess what? Women get destroyed by the road map provided by the left almost as much as men do. Where do you think that these women wind up when they're 70? Surrounded by a loving family? What about the young girls who are raised without a father because mommy didn't want to think about them for five seconds before getting fucked?

>muh there's always been problems

It's not hard to find endless statistics about the negative effects of fatherless homes, which are a natural result of not only telling women that anyone who pressures them to guard their vagina is sexist, but also subsidizing single motherhood.

Fun game.

The heroines have some really nice development, it’s not just they have their own unique and interesting personality quirks and fun scenarios, they have really strong relationships with each other. It really feels like a group of close friends, each with their own view of the world and interpersonal relationships with those around them, rather than a protagonist-centric setting where everyone else orbits around him like moons. This creates some really enjoyable and fun scenes, the comedy in this is top-notch. It’s balanced really well too, there’s just enough drama to keep things fresh and flowing well without being overbearing, and it’s light enough to maintain the overall fun mood of the game while still being impactful and genuinely moving in parts.

The production values are pretty impressive too, some very interesting use of sprites really makes the game feel alive, it utilises the potential of VNs as opposed to other media especially well. And the aura thing where the protagonist can see people’s emotions is so fucking cool, I feel like it’s completely unique and makes such a great experience, I’ve seen this idea touched upon in a lot of works but this is the first time actually seeing what it feels like. It’s described like an additional “sixth sense” and the work does a pretty impressive job of conveying this concept to the reader.

Of especial note was Mana’s route, which blew me away with how emotionally powerful it was, definitely not something I was expecting after how light and orthodox the other routes I’d read up to then were, and Cheri route ending 2, which had a level of fine craftsmanship and flair far beyond what it deserved based off the length.

Some scenes in the game may not be for everyone, I can definitely see sensitive folk being put off by the roles of heroines outside their routes, or the strongly portrayed classical tsundere scenes, or the yuri, but if you’re a more open-minded eroge connoisseur then it’s a genuinely fun and enjoyable read with some very strong parts, and while it’s not quite at the same level as Piyomizu’s best works I still had a lot of fun.

A tip in case you aren't super mainstream or just really new.
Saturdays are really good for bad ideas. Everyone knows them: Games you kinda want to play, but you feel like it's a really bad idea. Maybe the EGS score is super low. The writer someone you can't trust. It's way too long, or part of a big series. Maybe it's old and a pain to get/setup. But somehow you are still interested. If there's ever a Saturday you are unsure what to do on, consider a bad idea.

It's never bad to broaden your horizon a little bit every now and then. Can be quite fun. Average scores are also not particularly reliable for eroge outside of the mainstream. Reviews are better than numbers there. Just a general thing though. Haven't played the game in question here myself. Probably true for more or less everyone else but this one guy here.

>Reviews are better than numbers there.
I think this is an interesting point because I actually read a bunch of the EGS reviews before writing that one. A lot of them are people outraged because the packaging made it look like a standard pure love game and it deviates from a lot of the traditional industry patterns, so they didn't get what they were expecting. Not all of them of course, there are some genuine complaints there, the game isn't perfect, but it is important to note that there's always context behind a number rating.

>Saturdays are really good for bad ideas.
Sounds like a line that would come from a talk show for middle-aged women.
Didn't you say earlier that life is short and you should make good use of your time? Why wouldn't you pursue good ideas and make better use of your time then.

What kind of autist assigns days of the week special activities like that? Anyways, there's an abundance of games that I'm interested in that aren't considered turbo kuso and still fall into that "bad idea" category, no need to ever go that low. The game also simply doesn't look good or interesting, the score simply confirms that suspicion.

Having a rhythm or plan of sorts is usually a good idea. The reason why it's Saturday is simply because it's the most free day. If you were busy over the day, you probably aren't interested in doing experiments.
As for why, if you read a bit more you should hopefully realize this yourself. It's actually not very good to just jump at all the highest rated games. Sometimes jumping into something that could be not that great can easily result into you finding something really great that broadens your horizon. Stuff that the masses liked is probably good, but unless you are super mainstream there is going to be better out there.

I haven't said anything about this earlier. Starting to argue how to spend the time of your life is silly though. Values are different and one can easily argue that any time spent on 4chan or with eroge is a gigantic waste of time. In a way it sure is. But so is everything you do. You can't take anything with you when you die. As long as you are satisfied, you are fine.

Meh. I'm not really that huge of a fan of Kadoi Aya's art. I really liked Kakyuusei's art, but Kakyuusei 2 and Gatenkei art weren't really that great.

Yeah sorry this is never going to happen with sub 60 games. Have fun wasting your time because you're trying to be a hipster though.

It's the reverse for me, something feels off when Tamaki is drawn by Takei, while I like Yui's soft look. Maybe I'm just tired seeing his NTR works on sadpanda.

People who can find things to like in otherwise mediocre games probably will have more fun overall. They'll probably even be able to get greater enjoyment out the highest rated games as well. Try not to read through all those kamige too fast. Wouldn't want to end up like Zen.

So the only games that exist are <60 kusoge or >90 kamige? Don't be an idiot that can only think in extremes. You will never run out of games just playing the decently rated ones in the middle.

I hate to break it to you since this is like learning Santa isn't real, but Zen's posts are just him joking around like the boke in a comedy act. He's not sincere in the least.

Tanned heroines weren't really my thing so I didn't like it as much, but the h-scenes were still good. The main reason for liking the second game more is that the girl starts off acting fake to please them and gain popularity as an idol, while making snarky and apathetic comments internally ie "Hah? This filthy otaku already came?", but then eventually starts to give in later. I found this contrast pretty entertaining to read.

Better drop it immediately if you can't stand the first part. You either love it or loath the hell out of it. There's no in-between.
