People underestimate how much the company and its director affect a writers style / games direction. Very, very rarely you have projects where the writer himself comes up with everything, especially nowadays. It was somewhat more common in the experimental 00's where you had writers with a vision and tuning the entire game to suit that.

Kiniro Loveriche actually manages to (mostly) have very well done character interaction, some nice comedy here and there and usually didn't bore me. (unless maybe when I was deep into a given character route I didn't care about, but that's not THAT strange) Beginning was extremely forced and there's a lot to say about the story execution, but the ideas at least weren't bad. You also had a decent protag who did his job.

Shugaten feels like a cheap gochiusa copy with a male protag forced in, in the weakest and cheapest way possible. Randomly found + amnesia. Great.
But even then it's not really able to do, what gochiusa has going for it. It tried very obviously here and there, but kinda failed to realize what made gochiusa likable. It's also incredibly boring. This is what surprised me the most. I'm not seeing the same writer at all.

But it may really be what >>18156287 wrote. The idea behind Shugaten was probably just very very set in stone to the point, that there wasn't a lot of creative input the writer had. Down to what the scenes are supposed to be about. I know some like this stuff. Marshmallow was the same "idea", also I found it executed a bit better, not like that made me really like it or anything, but yeah. That was pretty popular. Not sure if common was really the reason for that though, or if it was just the ero.
In this case there's also the added gochiusa thing. I really don't need a dude in gochiusa. And especially not like THAT. But some want that.

I had more issues with installers and drm really. Though the are a few engines that can bitch quite a bit, so you may need some workaround. One example is the engine that old Sono Hana games or the dev Bloom Handle use. You need xp compability mode on 7 for it to work normally.

Im a fan of the xCation games and felt that なちゅばけ was really dull that I ended up dropping it because of how samey the scenes played out initially and how bland the characters felt. If you liked the characters in 新妻 then I would recommend trying out LxC2.

I actually repicked up PxC1 because of なちゅばけ and have been enjoying it more despite that game having some pretty glaring issues itself.

But Lovely Cation 2 is a borefest as well. High amount of really short barely connected scenes full of nothing. Bearable for a while maybe, but...

In a way, that's probably an issue all of these games have. But I felt that Purely did at least do the pre dating part a little better. Not sure how much the "gameplay" impacted that though. (or rather, it being not as annoying anymore)
Still, there's only so much you can do with a wall MC and cutting out everything but the main heroine of the chosen route. With absolutely nothing going on, it's the same all the time. Sometimes it feels like it's written so you play only one event a day. But I doubt many really do that...

I feel how short the scenes initially does ruin the flow of the game but they do get more bearable once youre in a route. I cant say the game is a borefest either when the characters were very charming and go through some development(Hime,Seine).

I disagree with this because many titles fail to go over 100 already, especially after two weeks.
Disregarding most of the 100 votes, that are almost always shilling and get disregarded by the median average anyway, we're talking about 20-30 at most extra votes and once you're out of the upper 90s zone they don't exist anymore.
So yeah, the scores even without those is still high, closer to the average than to the median but that's all.

Ningen Debris was a pretty solid game. I've read comments here and there complaining about how the story got boring in the second half or how they didn't like the twist but I thought it was a very entertaining game throughout. Even the ero scenes were entertaining to read for me. I've read three games by this writer (kawarazaki 2, boku no kanojo wa gatenkei, and ningen debris) and all of them have managed to really impress me. I don't think they are the type of games that everyone will enjoy, but they really work for me.

Biniku no Kaori looks like it's Doten Meikai's most popular game, so I've started playing it. Hope it's good.

Finished Gaku Ou -The Royal Seven Stars-. That is, one route.

Let's get this out of the way.
-The plot is shit and written like it's for 10 year old kids. (as in predictable as fuck and it still acts as if it isn't)
-The art is used in shitty ways. Why do CGs of group events only show the girls, but not the supporting guys? Not just that, there's not even SPACE for them. Imagine a group of 7 people going into a café and you get to see a table with enough space for protag and the 4 girls, while you see the 4 girls. Okay, you don't wanna draw them. That's fine. But at least don't just ignore their existence in any kind of way for your art, when the story doesn't.
-Random out of place fanservice in the common route. I don't think I've seen this being handled worse in a moege yet. It's not that uncommon to happen to an extend, but this...
-Hope you like 80% of the lewds in one block. For no purpose, with plenty of space for this to be different.
-Oh and, hope you like relationships to not progress for hours and then cover all the bases within 20 minutes. Which makes especially sense for characters not exactly honest with themselves, or towards others.
-Choices where you can't save when they pop up, because they have to be a weird pointless gimmick. Not like there are many, but still. Luckily there is a "to last choice" button, so technically you can save afterwards...

Seriously. This ain't good. But what does it have, aside of this one screen-worthy moment for a reaction image? Kotorii Yuuka's (Takamori Natsumi) first role, based on vndb. Main heroine as well, and even a pretty fitting character for her. The sole reason to play this. It's definitely not one of her better roles or anything, but it's as good as it can be in such a game. So it was some fun. Needed ctrl for the story events though, which are luckily(?) fairly stand alone.

Without a doubt worse than the CSG titles. It's basically a worse and more dumbed down version of 機関幕末異聞ラストキャバリエ aimed at horny 14 year olds. It removes the parts that made the previous titles at least passable without fixing any of the issues. The writing is a bit cleaner than CSG, but barely and the tone is waaaay too light considering what's actually going on in the story to the point of making me laugh out loud when people die. This game is so fucking cool, the MC has the ability to see people's emotions in the form of auras, so you get these amazing glowing auras to represent all the different emotions, and they do so many cool things with them. It's not just red = angry, blue = nervous etc, they mix multiple colours together to represent super complex emotions and tune the size and depth of the colours to represent how strongly they feel them and everything. The visual presentation of this game is basically just the best thing ever.

What if you let a bunch of people without any idea of how to write a trap protag game be in charge of such a game, while they give zero fucks and just want to get things over with? You get this great game by Ensemble.

The only actually positive thing I can say is: The art is nice. But. Even here you have an issue. The guy who made the production gave zero fucks and zooms in all the time. So have fun with blurry.

In a way you can still have your fun with it though. The character's aren't bad. So once you get on the trash level, the zero fucks you feel everywhere can become entertaining. At least for a bit. Common is short and the routes aren't too long either. The transition is zero fucks tier. You get from "girl has talked 10 lines within 2 hours and protag doesn't really know nor interact with her" to "doki doki" from protag within 2 minutes.

And apart of that, plenty of the developments feel so out there, that you can't help but wonder how anyone could even get those ideas. I sure couldn't. I guess this is what happens if you write a story backwards? Go from the end and give zero fucks about how to get there, as long as you get there? No idea. But I'm still amazed about the idea of a boys school the protag has to attend for reasons like once a week with excuses. And still gets cast into the student council there, because you obviously gotta do that to the guy only being there once a week at most and supposedly just has to work his ass off.
Of course one of the writers had the glorious idea to use the boys school to just let the protag get close to one of the heroines as a guy. I mean, this is a trap game, but who cares, right?
And your obligatory genki/mischievous girl being absolutely not genki and mischievous most of her route is also nicely in this game. Not like you see much of her in common. 10 lines maybe. The one girl you get to see the most, the sister, has no route. Unless you get yourself some standalone "route" of hers, called a "patch". Yep, a patch that's not even patching the game.

It's amazing how Ensemble managed to stay alive till this day. Truly amazing.

Well at least their games have decent art, although to be frank, I only managed to finish Canvas (which people often say to be the best in the series), and even it feels rather pale in comparison with, say, Otoboku 2 or Tsuriotsu in terms of writing.

Didn't think I would, but in the end I grinded out all the monster CGs in Rance. ビギニングへびさん was the most tedious, because it only appears when the game clock is at 00, and that means that you've spent the night in the dungeon, which gives a debuff so you miss most of your attacks. It wasn't worth grinding that one out since it's just a palette swap of another monster, but it also dropped a nice weapon so it's fine. But the others all had nice art, which I enjoyed looking at.

Ahhh no Rurio is very sad news and no Nonomi either feelsbad. They have such good chemistry. There are too many good scenes in the later chapters, really felt invested in the story at that point. Thought this was a really nice smoking CG that captures the mood perfectly, and also reminiscent of Yuki in Subahibi.

Speaking of good scenes, Naoya's dad was pretty badass, and I especially liked the epitaphs scene. Ai gave me a ton of feels, and all of those ecchi conversations throughout the story were pretty funny (nipple scene was genius). Really liked the Sui pool showdown scene too, very climactic turning point in the story. And the list goes on lol.

Anyone else kinda get the feeling that whoever was in charge of the art direction actually doesn't like tits all that much and that the design choices were more due to marketing reasons?

It feels like he started with a flat, petite character base and then attached huge tits, which is why Nokia (the pink haired one without tits) looks the most natural of the lot. I'm a massive oppaifag, but I can't get off to this.

That said, it's great and I recommend reading it.

While both Subahibi and Sakura no Uta are my favorite eroge or even piece of written work of all time, I have to say I don't really like Scaji as a person. I can't stand his sense of humor and jokes, his fetishes, his slice of life scences. But he is a genuies when it comes to writing a story and plots. I hope that he will write all the story and plot scenes in Sakura no Toki and leave the rest to the other writers.

I don't think you can separate those or claim they're your favorites while openly declaring you dislike over 50% of their content. I'd say the "plots" aren't all that special and fairly simplistic even, it's just that Scaji knows how to really draw in the reader and what makes characters engaging, of which a large part those things you listed are. Like who didn't open up Subahibi for the first time and thought Yukis narration at the beginning was the coolest thing ever? I don't know if you consider that kind of thing "plot" but there's quite a few jokes mixed in, hence being inseparable. A writers personality oozes through their work.

I tried 働くオトナの恋愛事情2 trial and as always the girls are extremely cute. A thing I didn't like is the fact they brought the whole cast from the first game as supporting characters, even the fucking MC with voics acting, which really is giving me a complex feeling while playing the sequel, I would have preferred a new setting.
