the point of the game is to be a challenge. as time goes on the bar is raised by new players pushing the limits and easily doing what was a challenge before. people who cant keep up can complain it isnt fun but its only their "oh that doesnt count thats insane bms tier" mentality holding them back anyway. "Air" is considered insane bms right, but that chart is well over a decade old. but because people make up a reason not to rise to the challenge it "doesnt count" and bms as a whole is regulated to this "other" category so people don't have to be confronted by the fact they can't handle it. hopefully they keep blurring the distinction between "insane bms" and iidx and just allow iidx to be the 7key game it is. put the hardest 7key stuff humanly possible in there and if people don't like it let them go play hypers.

As a player who has been able to get to high BMS double digit insanes within 2 years I don't understand how ANYBODY struggles with iidx. IIDX is a fucking piss easy game. Problem is that most arcades here are in shitty parts of town because of cheap rent, since arcades have to have as little overhead as possible to be profitable since they aren't that popular. Even R1 has said most of their locations are decided by how cheap rent is. I've gotten that same exact problem at random times but it goes away after a while. Do you happen to have a freesync monitor? I'm playing on a Nixeus monitor and it has some flickering issues with a small number of games when freesync is on so I wonder if it has to do with that. I also noticed like an hour after the clear lamps went away that my power cord wasn't sitting all the way inside of the monitor which was causing other weird artifacts on the screen, so that might have caused it.

The whole "random is cheating" meme is so funny to me because it still causes such a big discussion whenever it comes up, even though it's been talked about to death.
People still don't understand it's not about making things easier to clear but about being an available tool to learn more efficiently and reduce mindblocks.
And then of course there's always that one faggot that's like "dude just play however you want dude just play for fun", which is a perfectly valid way to play the game if you want, but if you're asking how to improve and how random can help or not there's a good chance you take the game at least semi-seriously.
Top rankers and kaiden players may be dickbags sometimes, but if they swear by random and a literal-who 6dan chucklefuck is telling you you don't need it, it's pretty easy to determine who's advice you should pay mind to.

There is more to this than you might think. I used to think arcin was literally cheating when I only had access to C02 machines. Now I only think it's slightly cheating compared to IO2.

When do people usually get their first AAA? I'm 6dan and I couldn't even AAA a 2 if I tried, but then again I've always focused 100% on clearing and not timing.

I have the same mentality as you as far as prioritizing clearing over timing, so I think beyond that it's a question of how frequently you replay the same charts. Back when I played on PS2 I think it was a year or more before I finally did get an AAA on something like Junglist King N14. Other posters above me are right to say that mid range Hypers will turn out to be easier to AAA than 2s or 3s - the former will feel more consistent in what notes are played and you have greater room for error in comparison to a 2 where you have only a dozen notes to not pgreat to make the cut.

For me personally, it comes and goes. At arcade I haven't had a AAA in a while, then last week I got one on 8Bit Princess H14 with it being the second song I played on the day, when usually I'm still warming up. I'm inclined to think that it will come more naturally to you in time as you continue to play.
