What is the best way to read Fate on PC in Japanese? My absolute must-haves are including voice acting but also having the original music. Yeah, you can toggle h-scenes in the options and the game just crashes if you have them on. It seems to be because of the Japanese files for h-scenes being absent from Realta Nua.

I've been playing Kawarazaki-ke no ichizoku 2 recently and it's a very interesting game, the production values are really awesome and it's got some nice CGs, and the game has got a nice mysterious atmosphere. One thing I really like about the game is that there was this one scene where it shows this short flashback segment. I was pretty impressed at what it did and how it made you think of the characters differently and I hope there are more scenes like it.

The game really hooked me from the start and is pretty fun to read, hope it keeps up like this.

If I configure like this, it runs, but in English. It's the allpatch_english.xp3 that's doing it, since if I remove it it's in Japanese, but then I can't access the config or it crashes. Maybe you edited that one to remove the English as well as the first three you posted?

I think that one is only responsible for menu translations. The text itself should be in Japanese.

I started playing Amatsutsumi about a year ago because I saw the CG of Mana sitting on Makoto's face and the OP movie was really pretty. I wanted to play Mana's route but I found out there was an enforced playing order, so I sat through Kokoro's route (which I felt was more of a prologue/introduction kind of thing) and got partway through Kyoko's but I got pretty bored of the Suzuka bullshit and dropped it. I vaguely recall Hotaru having some hackneyed mental issues with creepy bedroom foreshadowing as well, which I'm not too keen for. Is it worth picking back up for Mana?

I looked through allpatch_english.xp3 and you are right in that it is just images (and contains some bgm as well). The culprit for where the actual English text is coming from is just patch_english. Not sure why deleting the files you did resulted you in getting Japanese when the whole English script is still around. I extracted the contents of patch_english with kikiriki but it's hard to tell what ones are necessary and which were put in for the translation.

Very sleepy right now though, thank you for your help and I'll debug some more tomorrow.

Finally got it working. The problem was indeed in allpatch_english.xp3 all along; that is where the prologue English was being loaded from. On the upside, through fiddling with kikiriki myself I found out you can remove any BGM tracks you want and it won't crash, it will just not play the songs, so I removed all the Realta Nua BGM and now the first scene is silent like it is supposed to be. Thanks to anon for his files and letting me know how to do it.

What bothered me the most about her chapter was how Mana specifically went on and on about how Makoto was getting too close to humans / humanlike for his own good, rather than just simply wanting her fiance to return with her. I thought the game was eventually trying to make some sort of point with it, but they drop it pretty much entirely in exchange for Makoto conveniently solving her separate personal drama later on. And that drama itself was too similar to Kyouko's chapter's guilt over the death of a loved on so you're just seeing more of the same.

KKK is a direct sequel to Dies Irae like the other anon said so make sure to play it first, after which you should definitely give it a go. Overall I liked Dies Irae more but KKK had a better cadre of main characters. Senshinkan and its sequel on the other hand are standalone but they do have plenty of very overt referential humor to previous series. Pretty good as well, though not DI or KKK level in my opinion.

Done wie Letty's route. Much better than expected, and I expected to like it a reasonable amount already. Just Haruko was really a pointless sidecharacter that the game could've done without. Not particularly likable either. Unfortunately the author didn't just forget her and shoehorned her into one of the last parts. But nothing is perfect I guess.

So yeah, fairly unique setting for a VN, can be funny when it want's to be, takes a long time to establish its world and characters without actually being boring and plenty of pov changes, be it for comedy, character insight or because there's simply plot happening where the protag isn't around. It works really well in my opinion.
In addition you have what you can expect from this writer. Fairly detailed narration and inner monologue as well as his typical way of depicting the heroines a little more normal than common. A bit hard to describe, but if you've read Hapymaher, you probably have an idea how I mean this. If I had to try and describe it, the heroines are probably a little less idealized than what you may commonly see in eroge. Regardless, I've yet to see the heavy repetition of major elements that Hapymaher suffered from, which is something even though there are more routes to go through. At least common and Letty's route didn't really have that issue.

For now looking forward to what the game has more of Akira. Probably my favorite (human) side character, a bit similar to Letty actually, just more polarizing with her personality. However, a cat is fine too.

The battle system is similar to Twinkle Crusader except it's completely automatic and you can't control anyone so you can't time your characters to attack at the same time or do combos. I got a bit dissappointed, maybe because I expected something the level of Swan song.
2nd and 3rd route were actually quite interesting, it's just that 1st route was kinda boring. Nothing really interesting happens, no tension and we are given a lot more info than MC leading to drag and "Oh god when will it end" feeling. Plus the forced h-scenes everywhere. I guess it was necessary to sell?
I liked Izumi more than Risa after the 1st scenario but well, she kinda caught up after the 3rd one I guess. All in all, it's a good VN. Of course not as polished as Swan song, but still interesting.

Done with the "rest" of Fake Azure Arcology. This was exactly the same repetition problem Hapymaher also had.

Basically, the main story remains the same, no matter which route you take. The only thing that changes is the girlfriend and minor things, but the big plot pillars remain unchanged. Which really doesn't work.
On EGS this game doesn't have a too long average reading time, precisely because of that. The script has over 3mb of unique text. (Think Clannad or Sakura no Uta) But when the routes are SO similar in some ways, nobody would go through all of that. It's unfortunate, because one could've easily change a few things depending on which route you go. It feels rather off that ultimately no matter what you do, the general outcome will be more or less the same anyway with only minor details being different.

There were still a few fun scenes (mostly in side stories and common route branches rather than the actual routes), so it's not completely terrible to go through the rest. Just having the final epilogue for Letty being locked until you've beaten everything else is just horrible. Still makes me a little sad that it's over, meaning it at least succeeded in the one main playthrough for me. Letty is best, although most of the major cast was pretty good in their given roles.

I like how the game almost has two protagonists with the guy in your pic being the former 覇王 and military advisor to the main character, so each of them has his own harem to interact with. To be fair, few series survive like Atelier did. It was quite different at some point, then went back to the routes and now is some kind of mix of everything in a way. And even Fire Emblem is arguably not really Fire Emblem anymore, where it feels like they put more focus on waifu and marriage than anything else. That said, Tristia's gameplay is probably not going to be a positive thing. After one ingame week I'm feeling like if that's really it, it's only going to be annoying. Make stuff. Yeah, the gameplay is unfortunately a bit too simplistic for the length of the game.

I feel like Tristia is a "rough draft" while Neosphere is where it comes together decently - the gameplay is still too simplistic there, but they made changes that cut down on annoyance factor such as selling invented items being tied to just the Sector HQ building instead of individual (though you still have to purchase items from individual shops). They also put a lot more focus on world-building and politics so it's more interesting to read.

When you get around to Neosphere, one word of advice from me but make sure you get one of the two "good" endings instead of just the "normal" one - the "normal" ending ends the plot abruptly with absolutely no closure and is a terrible way to leave the game on.

This technically also holds true for Tristia, but I think that game is a bit less well-written so you can feel free to move on if you don't get a good ending there.

The vanilla Realta Nua PC releases hit your bill. I just found out there's a Kino no Tabi VN and am incredibly impressed with the production values. Everything, including all narration, is voiced. Different stories have different narrators even, both male and female. It's kind of like an audiobook and this might be the first game where I think reading/listening to it in auto-mode is probably the best way to experience it.

That's honestly not even too weird for today's society. This is arguably even relatively low on exposure. Clothes for an important event would probably be even more "lewd".

That said, going a little into the game I can say the following:
-Setup is painful. The author trying to "explain" it and give all kinds of reasons and explanations made it worse than it needed to be, as the whole situation is completely devoid of any reality. It's literally impossible for a typical highschool guy to carry a girl and outrun trained bodyguards and even if that'd be somehow possible, several other things are also just nuts. I feel like this stuff should just be cut short and ignored as much as possible.
-Music can be surprisingly good. Nice art (in 1080p) as well, including in my opinion fairly good designs
-If you can ignore the awful setup, the rest is actually fine. Although I'm not far enough to really say much about the cast, at least pic related is great.
-Smoking heroine in a moege? Hm. Then again, I've read a moege with a heroine simply dying at the end, so... everything goes I guess?
