Japanese "christmas cake" is different to ours. What do you say is the most appropiate replacement, if we cannot obtain this?

i wonder how a rich fruit cake would do over there, since most japanese cakes seem to be sponge or cream based i've always figured they haven't much taste for fruitcake.. but fruitcake is generally a traditional western thing, so it may not have been successfully imported
