After the 1905(the year wolves became extinct) The fox became the sole hunter of small animals (rabbits and such), but it was not enough, rabbits infested many japanese forests. Many japanese people are considering to bring Wolves from other asian country to reduce this problem.

Because such a huge kind of wolf would hunt the local critters to near extinction and turn on humans when the food supply got scarce. Ideally, Japan would want to reintroduce the same species they had or it's nearest relative in order to restore the previous balance.

The taxonomy been corrected. Wolves and dogs are the same species now, with dogs being a subspecies.

And tameness is different from domestication. You can tame a wolf in the same sense that you can tame a tiger, but it will never be domesticated. Dogs are domesticated, and you would never consider one "tamed" unless it was feral.
