I know this isn't /china/ but I have to ask you guys who are knowledgeable why people think China is going to be one of the 2-3 most important languages in a few decades?

I mean, it's not like their growing economy is a reason alone. My uncle in Dubai knows maybe a handful of words in English, yet he gets paid by American universities to represent them. He's not educated, but he's a wealthy motherfucker, with only the 7 sheikhs of UAE being more powerful than him.

And speaking of those sheikhs, they barely know any English.

So why is that Chinese will be a big language in a few years? Hardly anyone enjoys Chinese entertainment, nobody cares about the heavily censored Japanese media, and there are more than enough translators that will keep the need to learn Chinese down.

I say Japanese will still be a far more important language at least 20-30 years ahead.

The GDP of China is nearly 10x that of the highest Middle Eastern nation and still growing at ~ 10% a year.

>People don't care if you know anything of their language as long as money is involved. As I said my uncle doesn't know any English and he still has "worked" for far more American companies than any of you ever will.

Unlike all of the nations of the Middle East, the Chinese economy isn't centered around the extraction of one natural resource (in which language is a secondary consideration), so you can hardly draw a comparison as to the necessities of their business sectors.

China (PRC/mainland) wasn't even in the UN until AFTER the Korean war (which was one of the reasons the USSR boycotted the UN and they had enough votes to declare an intervention in Korea in the first place). That may be true in the short run, but it's not like Chinese products are going to simply pile up in warehouses because there's no one to buy them from the Chinese.

There are plenty of other people/countries out there that have savings and will soon be willing to spend. The US will simply lose its position (or at least a significant margin) as a dominant economic player.

You would think so, but no two states in the world come close to the levels that fat Amerikkkans consume. When the U.S. stops gorging, it means bad things for everyone.

ITT: people talk about economy like they understand it.

5 asians and 1 American are stranded on an island. To survive, they split up various tasks: hunting, fishing, foraging, firewood, and shelter are split among the asians; the American gets the task of sitting around on the island. At the end of the day when the food is prepared, the American consumes almost everything, leaving just enough for the asians to survive in order to do the same thing the next day.

Your economic model says that the key to this economy is the American. Without the pig American, the asians would have no one to feed, nothing to do.

Guess what: without the American, the asians would have more to consume themselves, and their quality of life would increase dramatically.

Again, in the short run China may feel the hurt of losing its biggest customer. But there are so many more Chinese willing to step in and dominate spending.

>> No.1797287

China's economy is on the border of self-destruction from overgrowth. The only reason people think it'll do well longterm is because the Chinese government doesn't release important information, and when it does, it's not accurate.

China's GDP per capita is hovering around 3000, it would take 10 chinese households to purchase the same amount bullshit that the average fatass american family does in a year. Maybe if China develops a significant middle class they wouldn't need the west, but as of right now and the next two decades they're shit out of luck. I'm not trying to troll you, if you think about it for a bit it makes sense.

I'm not saying Chinese are the -only- people who will step in to replace America's spending, but some idiots really do think America is the center of the world.

Yeah everyone's going to get hurt in the short run, but America is going to get hurt the most; meanwhile everyone will recuperate, leaving America behind.

What a shitty analogy. American consumers are required because the Chinese manufactures get business in return, not because some pig disgusting American just arbitrarily said so.

Yeah, American consumers can't even pay off their debts to Chinese manufactures. China (et al) loans America money which America can't pay off, AND gives America Chinese-made goods which Americans can't afford. Some business/economic model you got there.
