Would anyone care to share one of these threads with me? I've always found them to be a pleasant experience, and the highlight of my time on /jp/. There's just something comforting about sharing music you enjoy in a thread over a month or more.

itsue - godly vocals, they only have 1 good album the other is too poppy for my taste

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uGq5LxetDGA
number girl - pretty sick punk with math rock vibes, listen to them if you haven't already (sappuukei and num-heavymetallic are the albums to look at)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-TsXHNMV5lY
moe and ghosts x kuukensomething - experimental hip hop, not for everyone but it's moe and has nice flow

honourable mentions: shinsei kamattechan but all the albums sound the same besides minna wo korosu and tsumanne, sonotanotanpenz (offbeat pop shit)

>Moe and ghosts × 空間現代

The best description I can think of for this is Zazen Boys making a cover of Trout Mask Replica. Trying to think of it as hip-hop makes me dislike the track despite enjoying the vocalist and enjoying the instrumentals. Thinking of it as a more general "experimental" genre makes it easier to swallow, oddly enough. Maybe I'm just not enough of a hip-hop head or too much of a brainlet to enjoy this level of avant-garde.

I don't think the song is good at all. Left me thinking "That's it?".
The instrumental is all over the place, and so is her "singing" (which almost reminds me of spoken word).
Seems like she's too busy with other things, to actually care about making decent tunes. Which is a shame, because she has previously shown that she IS able to produce something worth listening to.

Now I can only hope that her next track will be more thought out. I'll dive in to her earlier work, because her new tune is not worth listening to more than once.

I was lurking some stuff I downloaded years ago from Comiket threads and found a CD that totally blew my mind, LuciaRize by SHIKI from C91. I also downloaded other albums from SHIKI and they're all pretty good but LuciaRize, Cristierra and Trancer Doll are absolutely stunning to me.

I'm looking to get into susumu hirasawa, but his discography is huge and it will take me a long time. I discovered him through the the millennium actress and paprika soundtracks, which I enjoy. So I was wondering where to start with the rest of his work.
TL;DR post your favorite hirasawa songs

>> No.17991544

>>17991191
When it comes to Hirasawa then Kyuusai no gihou (1998) is the best starting point. Songs are generally pleasant and flow well. My favourites from this album are Niwashi KING, Narcissus jigen kara kita hito and especially Hashi daiku which is one of Hirasawa's best (lyrics are beautiful). Besides that Aurora (1994) is also one of his more popular and beloved albums.

Once you're accustomed to and love middle-point of Hirasawa's career I recommend trying some early Hirasawa with his first three solo albums Jikuu no mizu, Saiensu no Yuurei and Virtual Rabbit. Especially the first two still carry that P-MODEL sound but there already are signs of mid-Hirasawa in some songs. Especially Virtual Rabit has incredibly strong closing line-up - basically whole second half of the album is fantastic with songs like Sanchou harete, Shizuka no umi, Shi-no-nai otoko and Taiyou no ki. And after listening to early-Hirasawa don't forget to try early P-MODEL, Hirasawa's band.

I think the anon might be a bit confused, admittedly the Japanese use the term breakcore very liberally and confusingly. All kinds of stuff gets tagged with breakcore. I think the strict definition is something along these lines: https://soundcloud.com/murder-channel/the-best-breakcore-songs-of-all-time-pt12-by-klitorix
Considering that the anon was talking about Shako-Pani I can only assume he means more of the chill side of IDM. Some of this stuff might still get tagged with breakcore. I'm talking braindance, neurofunk, electronica, ambient, amen breaks, etc.
You'll want to check out Go-Qualia, calla soiled, quarta 330, Silvanian Families, charlot, kame_n_crane, Hawawa, Nyolfen, Hypo77, Pollinosis, Penguindance, Edit Error, among others.

They like it. It's fairly simple. The nips don't often make new things, but they do often do new and interesting things with stuff that they take. Anime having its roots in Western cartoons, and the pretty large amount of interesting, talented jap jazz artists are some proof of this.

tl;dr they like shoegaze, so they make shoegaze

The new Jyocho EP was alright.
I still don't think they're quite on the same level as Uchu. The same ideas are there, but they feel more spread out and almost constrained in a way. Like they refuse to mesh with one another. Whatever made Uchu Conbini tick doesn't seem to work here.
It's not bad though. It's quite good actually, but I can't stop comparing it to Uchu's material and ending up disappointed. I hope Daijiro can work it out for his next release.

I should clarify I meant music by 'idols' like famous singers and actresses not necessarily groups

that's not what the word means, but ok.

If you like math rock have you listened to fox capture plan?

No, but I will check them out.

So in this idol music is it basically girls age 12-25 singing over instruments that they pretend to play, or are they actual musicians too?

>> No.18181307

>>18181306
as far as I can tell, it's predominantly the former, though there is probably some of the latter somewhere out there. I certainly have not encountered it. However, I haven't explored idol music much because I don't really enjoy it - to me, a lot of it feels creatively bankrupt.

That's why I avoided it for a very long time, plus it seems to be fawned over people who put up with substandard music because the women are cute. Same reason I treat kpop listeners with contempt.

You could try walkure. Some of the songs are interesting and the singers aren't too bad.

>> No.18181328

Yeah, exactly.
I occasionally check out /mu/ to see if I can find anything interesting (their classical threads were quite good, I don't know how they are now), and the thread consistently at the top of the catalog is their kpop general. It's surreal, people don't even discuss music in the threads, it's like waifuwars all over again. At least waifuwars is a bit more tolerable because it's not real people being idealized although it kills discussion all the same.
That being said, listen to this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VnqAvJ4BU2Q

>>18181328

fucking christ I accidentally refreshed and lost an entire reply full of links for the thread, gonna try this again

anyway, /mu/ has been a shithole since 2011 and got invaded by idiots that worship music critics instead of artists, and mostly stick to a tight circle of group-approved artists for discussion because everyone else realized how bad the place was and left

well most of this is instrumental because I hadn't gotten into vocal Japanese music until lately and all of it is from the past few versions of these threads

oh, cool. The way the first track just dashes through the sections of the songs is untouchable, the choir in the back, the progression, it's spot-on.

yeah it's an amazing documentary, early gig footage is in there, lots of interviews and just a camera tagging along with the band. I'm not sure where I found it, perhaps the website I got it from isn't even around anymore since it was a while ago but I'll always help a fellow fan out. Add me at discord, Darryl#4210 and I'll see if I can send it your way somehow.
